paneraiguy
I hope you are all willing to hear me out. I was forwarded this link by a guy on Craigslist and I got a good laugh out of it. I see that you all have as well. Please allow me to clarify a few things and then I will be more than happy to take any further abuse you are wanting to dish out. 1. I sold the board last night. 2. I kept the post up when I was forwarded the email to your site so that this community could get a good laugh because it was never my intention to incur the wrath of the speed demon racers out there. 3. I know the it's the rider and not the board but the board helps and I do think I am pretty fast..... All this being said let me clarify my intent with the ad.... I wanted to make it an eyecatcher and I see that I have done that not only by the interest but also due to the fact that I had no problem selling the board. NOW Here is why I said what I said.... It is not because I think I am the fastest rider on the planet and that my Snowboard can compete against a Race Board. I said that thinking it could compete against any similar style board. Now even apples to apples are there better and faster riders than me? SURE but none that would be willing to take the time to beat me in order to take a 9 year old snowboard off my hands. I figured if you needed a good deal on a snowboard like that and did not already own a nicer one then I'd be willing to take the chance. I even had a local Vans Pro Rider send me an email and warn me of my post. This is pretty much what I told him. What is a sponsored rider going to do with a year 2000 Burton FL Project?? But I was willing to accept his challenge and risk losing my board but he realized my intent and was actually a pretty good guy. To wind this down (apologies for length) Since I sold my board It's not up for a challenge obviously but if anyone wants to put me in my place I will more than happily buy them lunch and a beer or two. I will be at Alta/Snowbird next Friday and Saturday and on the 17th I will be back on the crappy east coast and ride a day at Whitetail in Pennsylvania. If you accept my explanation then I would be happy to be part of this community since I do love speed. If you still think i'm a fool then I'll have my wallet ready for any of you who want to lighten it a tad. Either way I sold my board and had a few laughs along the way. I'll keep my post up on Craigslist until tommorow for your viewing pleasure. Thanks for your time. Eric

paneraiguy
I laughed as hard as you guys did but hey.... If it means I have made some friends along the way I'm glad I did it. I guess if I want to go really fast I will have to go to a hard boot.
KingCrimson
Hey Eric- You owe me 2 paper towels you know. Mountain Dew is rough on the computer screen! paneraiguy
I'd love to give hardboots a try but when I quit skiing and first went To softboots they were so comfortable. Are snowboard hardboots the same As skiboots? Sorry ignorant question but they look like skiboots from the 80s If they are comfortable and not too bad to walk in I'm in :). I would love To be able to smoke fast skiiers down the hills.
KingCrimson
Most hardboots these days use moldable liners, which are miles ahead. In terms of walking, most have a release so that the cuff freely pivots. Otherwise, just don't too much walking! I can't stand softboots at all.. You will quickly find that turning is a lot more fun than going fast; in hardboots you can be as much of a jackass as anyone, but being under control is so much better. SEJ
Eric, welcome to the dark side. It ROCKS! Boots with thermoflex liners mold to your feet, not like the cruel shoes I used to ski in. Plus, no pressure from the binding straps with softies.
AaronG
Are snowboard hardboots the sameAs skiboots? Sorry ignorant question but they look like skiboots from the 80s If they are comfortable and not too bad to walk in I'm in :).. Like skiboots, hard boots are a bit harder to walk in than soft boots, the only question I like to ask is: Did you come to ride or walk?? Sure, everyone has to walk to the lifts and back to the car but once you get the walking over with there is no better connection to your board than a pair of hardboots. Like the others have said before me, with hardboots use the Thermoflex liners and they are just as comfortable as anything out there. No binding straps to pinch or cut off circulation. The edge control you get with hardboots will astound you. My 2 cents.
willywhit
the boots are made to have some latral flex unlike ski boots that flex forward. There's a bunch of cool toys to add on like BTS springs that act like a shock absorber to control flex and rebound dampening. The new bindings look sick, too. Most of us run cant wedges under the bindings to improve the angle of attack on the board. Edges, bevels, wax and base tuning are really important to make your sled rip.New metal technology is pushing the board performance to insane levels. alpine is like building a race car, you've go to dial it all in and stomp on the gas if you want it to perform. http://www.bomberonline.com/store/boots/BTS_kit.cfm http://www.bomberonline.com/store/bindings/td3_standard.cfm guys, correct me here if my pseudo tech knowledge is off

I guess I'll find out in the next couple of days..
Jack M
Nice going Eric, well played. Check out our Welcome Center for some tips on easing into alpine. As others have pointed out, you don't buy snowboard boots to walk in. With moldable liners and decent footbeds, I don't touch my boots all day. Whenever I ride softboots, I have to crank the straps down to the point of near pain to get any performance out of them. There's none of that with hardboots. yyzcanuck
Do BTS's necessarily dampen No, they are springs. do they just provide adjustable flex? Yes, by adjusting the spring preload or the spring rate (red, blue, yellow) I guess I'll find out in the next couple of days.. Yes you will. However... I think you may feel there is some form of dampening. It's my OPINION that what you feel is the new range of motion in your ankles allowing your muscles to respond better to the terrain.
