pebu
Ha... ha... Oh, wait... But no, seriously, there are alot of political debates, the ever present mac vs. pc.... Point is it gets heated. But it's a cool site, even if you aren't that much of a geek.
wavechaser
now, tell me if this "offends" you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXAGM4z6ASA Oh my god! Was that poor ape electrocuted when he jumped into the pool with the electric guitar?? Those women in bikinis were exploiting the poor defenseless beer ape! some people are way too sensitive http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8y25Ompb88&watch_response maybe it was the ape's speedo, maybe it was throwing glass bottles in the pool area. I am perplexed...... ;) It was showing the "black" ape as some sort of twisted party "animal" - while "white" apes are getting all the really good ad spots...sickening. Jack M
Actually, all posts from new members are dumped into a moderation queue. We have to go into this queue and validate or delete each new post. (Edit - top secret custom VBulletin hacks deleted here) We did this as a spam countermeasure - the spammers have really found BOL. (some of it is rather amusing) So this is kind of a chore, and perhaps saps time/energy that could be spent doing real moderation. However, I have to admit I haven't seen anything over the line this fall. Sure, people are arguing and voicing strong but valid opinions, but I haven't seen the gloves come off yet. If anybody has, *please* use the reporting function. This place is already too f'ing PC. Oh yeah? Check out this dick that cut me off this morning on my commute... pebu
Haha... I like you Jack. Not that that means anything coming from a soft booter. But now that you mention it, I haven't seen any spam on here, looks like it's working good.

Dr D
A hardy welcome back to tex:biggthump :biggthump Second ,, what did I miss?? I have yet to see much flaming that wasn't in jest and good fun. This forum is what it is because of the kind of nonconformist misfits we all are. We are after all the passionate one percent of our sport. I would tend to suggest that those stepping in and feeling offended should merely sit back and watch awhile and realize that much of the "flaming" is simply the sarcastic brand of humor enjoyed by many on this site. If I couldn't throw an Asym jab at jack every now and then I don't know what I would do for fun:lol: Live and let live baby Also dissenting opinion freely aired is often where new ideas come from. just a thought:ices_ange
carvedog
I run a forum with over 10,000 members. If you moderate too much, people whine. If you don't moderate enough, people whine. There is no simple solution. So what your saying is break out the cheese and crackers. What do you do that has 10K people interested in it? Is that the transgendered TAEBO specialists who have Dobermans? Not funny dude. Ok now I am answering myself. I think I need my own moderator. Dave ESPI
And if you do, they'll be different from what you expect, usually in a good way. some of us are true to form, but our sarcastic comments come across a bit bettter when a person KNOWS that they are being a snot on purpose, and not in a mean way. I am who I am here and in life, people just need to read a lot of my post with a grain of salt and think of me as always "Joking" .... some people take things wayyyy too seriously online. wavechaser
Ain't it the truth Lee...man you are going to hear it from somewhere...I FEEL it coming. ;) What Bomber needs is at least fair moderation across the board. I have recently been attacked by certain members for tryiong to sell my New Speedster 183 - while also listing it on the bay. I know the rules - but I am not by a long shot the only person who does/did this and certainly not the only person trying to move one of the now infamous "House" deals the same way here. Yet my, and only my, post got pulled this morning? If we are going to apply the rules, let's apply them to everyone. In fairness, my post probably got pulled because of the flaming, name-calling (cool huh?) and personal attacks that were being leveled at me in that thread. We don't need that kind of ugliness. If a person is unhappy with something like that they can contact the seller directly first, then the moderators...no need to post that kind of stuff. I did some research this AM (no snow - I'm bored) and you can see what I mean here: http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?t=13510 - NOTE: 12-16-06...link has been censored by moderators to protect the culprit from being shown as who he really is. Blackbird
I think that what has been said so far in this thread is good. What you have to remember that written words aren't always good at showing the emotion of the person that wrote them, at the time they were written... (if that makes sense) ok another way to put it...... Basically Emotion is a lot harder to convey in the written word.... (That's better) It's past my bed time...... Maybe that's why some people come off as being a little harsh... not all though...... some people could learn a "softer" way to come across... but it's all good.. The more people we have here at BOL the better we can show the world this magnificent sport. I think that maybe some people are a little thin skinned... but PC is way over the top... We are brought together here for the love of OUR sport.. We all can learn stuff from everybody... whether it be a 8 year old skidder to a 75 year old skier, You never know if you listen you might learn something...no matter how small. Well as far as I'm concerned, I like all the guys at BOL... As an Aussie all the way across the pond.. I've felt welcome here and have had all my questions answered by people that know and live the sport...... And the BOL guys have great customer service even with a dumb no nothing like me.... I don't care much about the House story and selling new stuff at a premium, but for those who do, maybe do like some suggested: you say "All profits from this sale will be reinvested in snowboard racing". By the way, the link is not working, saying I don't have the right to view this post.

I wouldn't call a next to new F2 Speedster 183 for $300-$350 "at a premium" and $60+ is not exactly a big "profit". Nice idea you have - not sure it would appease anybody though. Read the part after the link and you will be less confused.
D-Sub
Lee...gotta say Im really surprised that you would post that sign. Aren't you deaf? I would think that would make you more sensitive to the insulting nature of that "sign!" wavechaser...people called you names over that? Thats just really, really wacky. It cracks me up that it is apparently forbidden to make any money here.
wavechaser
wavechaser...people called you names over that? Thats just really, really wacky. It cracks me up that it is apparently forbidden to make any money here. Not just juvenile name-calling (i.e. "Kook" and "Kookchaser"), which is no big deal and reflects on the poster more than it does me, but also - when I deleted and re-posted the listing to get rid of the ugliness and BS for the sake of all of us, the main perpetrator said I "needed to take it like a man" and "grow some balls" and then apparently contacted a mod, who promptly took the listing down this morning - but left the other ones selling "House" Speedsters up (and with ebay links). Seems I got singled out - it was your friend Little Ricky Freguson.

bobdea
you know, when I posted my rant about the house in one thread that got pulled (I did not ask anyone tp delete it BTW) it was specifically because I felt that it was undercutting Bomber because they sell the exact same stuff and since this site is paid for by bomber I though it was unfair to steer away buisiness from someone who has dedicated their company to us but instead to a wal-mart/biglots/ocean state job lot type of operation that could care less about alpine. I'm less worried about you guys that bought the boards now than actually giving a slightly sleazy operation like the house free adverts but you guys are still using BOL to advertise competition even if you are a single person, go ride that board once and then it's used or just list it as used for one run then you're doing BOL less harm and within the rules posted at the top of the forum. now, a couple wise cracks about asking if the glasses come with it I don't think are out of line at all but I'm sure Rick went way out like he usually does
D-Sub
Thats a fair point ^^^ wavechaser. Fin specifically states in the rules that new gear sales are forbidden, and understandably so. Again...when I was going to buy ALL the speedsters AND bindings from The House...I had every intention of never posting about it on Bomber. Im sure someone would have gotten wind of it though and ripped me and done their best to ensure I didnt make any money. god forbid but...anyway...about your statement that moderation should be even, yes, it should, but I dont think that any mod is going to constantly scan the classifieds for compliance. Someone alerted on yours...and should do the same on any new gear, especially stuff sold by online retailers.
D-Sub
I'm sure...guess that has gone on before from the looks of it! just the fact that certain people lurk behind the scenes waiting for any opportunity to spew venom amuses me. Only posting to tear into someone, emailing them for the same reason, and basically being a rat.
wavechaser
Read Fin's new sticky at the top of the Carving Community (also modified in the For Sale sticky rules). I talked to Fin and Jack a bit today. All is understood and everyone is happy now. They will now actively enforce the NEW equipment rule, as well as rules against rude or offensive commentary (RF) so no worries. The problem was partly that it was not enforced before so it seemed OK. I was wrong - but my thinking was that anybody who bought a Speedster for $239 wasn't about to buy one at full boat - I certainly wasn't. And who wouldn't grab one at that price. I'm selling because I realize after hand-flexing it that the board is WAY too soft for me, and I got my hands on a race stock GS board from a WC rider...there was no original intention to "flip" it - but it has a value in the free market, which will now be determined elsewhere...no problem and no big deal. It's still amazing to me that when they have a complaint, some losers have to post a bunch of crap for everyone to see, thinking it makes them look like a bid deal; but making themselves look like complete idiots instead. It would be handled much better by privately emailing the poster in question with friendly info that they can be reported if they persist. Then reporting to a mod (again privately) that there is a problem. The mod can then contact the poster and try to work things out if they feel there is a serious problem. No need for the big-man talk...and that is all it is talk.
D-Sub
and again the question is answered: mods are doing just fine, behind the scenes. at the 6 fascists.
