  1. Bordy started a thread like this on the old board. I just found this last night. The photo is kind of trashed, but you get the idea. Early '90's, M6 with Flex bindings, Quiksilver Day-Glow jacket with matching headband, Sorels with ski-boot liners... Those were the days. In fact I still have that jacket. Maybe I'll break it out for the WTC next weekend - retro day....
  2. The website has been updated: http://www.hardbooter.com/wtc/
  3. I've skied 3 times since 1985 (2 times this year actually). Does that make me a skier? I don't know what the sidecut is on the skis I have gotten recently, but when I do ski, I get fairly short skis, in the 160-ish range, and I haven't had a problem falling to the inside. I would guess that most rental shop monkeys will have no idea what the radius is on skis, I would check out the stats of the skis on the producers websites before you go in. My $.02 - probably no help at all.
  4. Here's my suggestion: The Canyons, meet at the top of the Cabriolet, near the ticket offices. PC: Max (Billy's shop), or somewhere around the ticket offices at the bottom of payday. I would prefer to meet early, around 8:00 so we can get first chair.... Probably a good idea to decide on an FRS radio frequency to communicate with the group. Any ideas? Discounts: Dave was working on getting discounts at PC for the group. Haven't heard if he was successfull. I know Canyon Sports has discount tickets to both PC and The Canyons. $55 for PC, $49 for The Canyons - according to thier website. Wasatch Ski Connection has $47 tickets for The Canyons. I believe REI used to sell discount tix also, not sure if they still do, or what the prices are.
  5. Alta may be much like Mad River Glen. A sort of a museum. They haven't gone the whole high speed quad route or any of that, so they are not in need of $$$. My theory is that when the old man who owns Alta now dies, the kids will get greedy, and we'll be in! ;) (ha ha) As far as Deer Valley, Their instructors visit The Canyons, where I teach, whenever they get a client who wants to snowboard. I spoke with one of thier instructors about this on a lift just last week. His comment was: They are pretty much running at capacity now with skiers only, why change things? They've got their market of foo-foo skiers filling their bank account, and it's a market niche. As far as groomers are concerned, everyone claims that Deer Valley has no equal... So until we live in a perfect world, we'll just have to ride Skwals at Deer Valley and carry poles just to keep up the image... "Is that a snowboard sir? No, its an in-line monoski!" (right Billy?)
  6. MMMMMM. Iceeeeee. That sounds good right now. Billy, I may have to take you up on that if I can make it on Saturday. My freeride/teaching board needs some work. Course I work at The Canyons, so it always needs work. The only thing worse than having a job is: Not having a job!
  7. Yup, Dave was supposed to be sending out an update about when and where, but I think he's in Hawaii (what a bummer), so I figured I would get the word out so people can prepare... The new job is great... Only problem is no time off, so I think I'm SOL on the 4th and the 5th, hopefully I'll at least make it on the 6th, and maybe part of the 7th.....
  8. Yes, we're actually going to do it this year. Non-competetive freecarve event in Park City, Utah. March 4th-7th, 2004. Come check out the Utah snow and warm up for ECES! All the information is now at: http://hardbooter.com/wtc/ Sign ups, guests, schedule, etc.
  9. I sent you an E-mail.... So Billy, When was your ragdoll session. You gonna make the WTC?
  10. So what exactly does "Injured reserve" mean Billy. Are you really injured? I told Marty to get ahold of you, hopefully he sent you an e-mail.
  11. I just sent you a LONG email.....
  12. Dang that looks fun Billy.... Saturday hugh? I had to teach all day :( Is that Dave on the F2? Looking forward to the Wasatch Trenchin' Convention....... ('cept I got a real job now, I hope I can get some time off!!!)
  13. As Jack mentioned, get an EX-out. I have a few of them, differing sizes. Most hardware stores such as Home Depot should have them, just ask someone who works near the drill bits. They are usually near the tap sets. Some of them come in a set, with a the "correct" size drill bit. Any decent bike shop would have them also, and could remove the bolt for you also, or a machine shop.
  14. I'm available, if you want to do something at The Canyons or Park City let me know...
  15. I got a mailer for this mag, and was wondering if it would be worth the dough (seems a little pricey to me). Good to hear that is actually has some alpine content in it though. I hope that they can make it work... Snowboard Life tried to no avail.....
  16. Does leaving your boards in a locker room count as "Locked Up"?
  17. Phil, Thanks for the link, I was looking under Event Schedules, just not getting the start times there. Why not race? I got no $$$$. (well, maybe I could spare $25) I haven't chased sticks in a race course for 7 or 8 years either, I don't think I would know what to do any more...
  18. What are the times of the events... I may be able to spectate, depending on the schedule.
  19. Board: Rossi Levitation 167 (2000) Boots: Salomon Malamutes (2001) Binders: Flow Pro-C BX (2002) I love this setup. The Levitation has an 11.something meter sidecut - much bigger than most freestyle/freeride boards. The Malamutes and the Flows are very stiff for a soft setup. I rode Switch/Vans stepins for way too long, the boots were way to soft when I got rid of them. When I got the new setup, I caught a couple of toeside edges (superman style, like beginners) because the boots were so much stiffer than my old ones, I would not be expecting to switch edges soo quickly. I'm running fairly low angles (24 front, 12 rear) but one of these days I'm planning on kicking the front up to 45, and rear aroudn 33, just to see how the flows/mals perform at higher angles......
  20. Here's how I market carving/board control to soft-booters: As a way to improve thier freestyle skills. Better carving and board control = more speed carried through turns, more speed = going bigger. Look at any decent halfpipe rider, and how do they ride through the bottom of the pipe between hits? Are they skidding? no, a good halfpipe rider carves across the bottom of the pipe between hits, losing no speed. A lot of kids can actually grasp this concept. Most of them are still of the mindset "I can't turn heelside, but I wanna learn 360 grabs....
