  1. Sub zero temperature but bright sun and a firm, manicured surface made for 2 hours of exquisite pleasure this morning....then suddenly the clouds rolled in, the light went flat and everyone else showed up.... Forecast is for 4-6” of snow tonight - I’ll be back out Thursday morning!
  2. Thursday, 1/10 Thin layer of groom over a bombproof and occasionally icy base made for high speed carving under overcast conditions - the upside was that only a few snow sports enthusiasts bothered to come out. I always find it pleasantly surprising how quick I can get a board to come around when it’s really needed...as in the edge of the trail is coming up fast. Russ
  3. Thursday, January 3 - consistent groom, overcast this morning then bright sun in the afternoon. Nice! Ken was out too. I'll be back tomorrow. Russ
  4. Russ chiming I’m here....4-6” of snow last night, still snowing today (and foggy); more snow and colder temps expected tonight.
  5. I haven’t been out at all this week; I have patrol tomorrow but don’t have very high expectations...... Russ
  6. Both bigwavedave and I are planning on riding tomorrow (Friday, 12/7). Anyone else going to come out and play? BTW - I'll be patrolling on Thursdays this year (and whenever the spirit moves me since I'm semi-retired!). Russ
  7. I’ll take them - PM sent!
  8. Toodles - I'll send you a PM so we can work out payment/shipment details. Russ
  9. Toodles; This image and text is from The Carver's Almanac....I have one of the round wedge cants with a 3 hole center disc (upper left) and two of the 3 hole center discs that fit the wedge cant in the upper right. (top left) Small-diameter round wedge, non-removable center (3D or 4x4): 6.5 deg. These disks have a diameter of about 16cm, which is way too small for hardboot bindings. The toe and heel pads of your bindings will overhang the cants. (top right) Hexagonally shaped wedge, with removable metal center (3D/4x4): 7 deg. These are the wedges that came with the later model year Burton Bindings. If you buy one of these, make sure you get both a 3D and 4x4 metal center. Russ
  10. I have 2 3-hole center discs and one cant wedge - it’s one of the round ones approx 15cm in diameter. PM me if you’re interested. Russ
  11. Dave - thanks for the update.....it's nice having someone that lives 5 minutes away to report on conditions! I'll see you tomorrow as well. Russ
  12. I would describe conditions today as ‘firm groom’ with only an occasional icy patch; the temperature stayed below about 23F so the snow didn’t soften at all. Saturday is forecast to a bit warmer - if the surface softens slightly it would be more fun to ride. Russ
  13. Tuesday, April 3 Patroller Don and I rode over the lunch hour today - light was flat but the groom was surprisingly good. The combination of a little new snow over the last couple of days and continued cool temperatures is keeping our season alive.
  14. Saturday, March 24 Loose granular over an icy base and flat light at the start; the light soon improved and the hard base could be managed with a deft touch. True to his word Ken brought out the retro-neon Hot Tub Time Machine kit...Jim and Joel look decidedly drab in comparison
  15. BWD - I’d be up for a day at GR next week....what’s your schedule look like? Russ
  16. This must have set some kind of record - five (count em, five) hardboot carvers at Spirit today! I, unfortunately had to leave the party early to catch a flight? but left to right: Bobble, lonbordin, bigwavedave, Corey, rwmaron. Conditions and ride report to follow, I’m sure.
  17. Monday, March 12 First a big shout out to @jolson for letting me borrow his Prior 183 WCRM for today.....there were several clumsy moments until I figured out that this stick just works far better with a good head of steam, but then oh my what a ride - stable, sure footed, quick edge to edge, and almost eerily quiet. Where has this board been all my life? Didn’t hurt that the sun shone, the groom was sweet and the usual mid-week attendance left us plenty of room to ride the big boards all day long.
  18. Progressing - he is struggling with the concept of keeping his center of mass over the carving edge (as opposed to staying on top of the board), but remains open to feedback from other riders.
  19. No mixed bag today - grippy groom everywhere from Cinder Snapper to Juggler Joe. A few more folks than usual for a weekday morning but we were still able to have our way with the hill. Today’s crew (khoward and Patroller Don); Jolson joined us a bit later too!
  20. Bit of a mixed bag today - Fourpipe, Sissor Bill, Bindle Stiff, and Sky Hooker were firm but grippy; Gandy, Blue Ruin, and Double Jaw were one notch below bulletproof. But hey the sun was shining and I got to ride with these cool kids.
  21. I'll file a report on conditions around midday.
