  1. Although I have preached the hardbooting gospel locally for many years, I have only one true convert that I know of. My son Andrew. Started with softies at age eight and rode them until he was sixteen. He made the move to hards then. Added racing for a few years and now he rides hards or softs depending on conditions. Team Utahcarver 2011 Andrew at eighteen. Mark Yes, that is an old school Burton anorak that he's wearing at 18. Love that shell.
  2. It need not be something that say, says "Bomber, ....James Bomber". And not something that turns into a North Face logotype, either. I'm thinking that the logo should be like the Playboy logo bunny: "Bomber After Hours", with soft jazz playing in the background. Or, or: Bomber, No Blue Pills Needed Here. Mark
  3. Last night in SLC, Utah, Dmitri Milovich was honored by the Utah Ski Archives with a History Maker Award. In his remarks, Milovich praised those who helped him in developing his boards. One of which was Alta ski area, which was the first place that snow-surfing was granted lift-access (in Utah). Imagine, Alta! Thanks, again Dmitri, Mick, Scott and all of the others who broke trail. Top photo: board-guru and Wink plotting a global takeover using nothing but Wintersticks. Bottom photo: utahcarver and Mr. Milovich. Note the red Winterstick ST in the background; deck has broken glass shards in it for traction.
  4. Nils: I hope that there are a few pictures to post and some great stories to tell in a few weeks. Mick and I will be able to relate how it went after the fete. I'm sure that between the former team riders, people who worked at the factory, riders who still ride Dmitri's designs, and other admirers it will be a great evening in Salt Lake City. Mark
  5. This should be a great event. Dmitiri Milovich has influenced many people directly and indirectly by his development of the Winterstick. I met him when I moved to Utah many years ago, and I have only met him a few other times since the mid-1970's. His invention has provided enjoyment for myself and my family and friends to the present time. It's fun to watch it all come 'full circle' again with fledgling companies producing rockered powder boards. I've met and ridden with many riders who owe their enjoyment of surfing powder to Mr. Milovich. Many of us who are local to Utah and to had access to the Winterstick factory in SLC and it's products feel lucky. We got to surf powder for several years before the lifts allowed modern-day snowboarding. Yes, there were other board companies at the time but, having Wintersticks produced locally made it even more special. If you've ever ridden a Winterstick Swallowtail in deep pow, you know that it is a different feel and ride than riding a modern conventional board. The rider is more centered over the board, no leg burn. It allows for a more aggressive turns, whether long and drawn out or quick staccato-like turns, the 'sticks could do it all. Thanks for posting, Mick. See you there! Mark
  6. Many years ago, in another life, I had someone tell me that the biggest mistake that any man can make is to believe that he is different than his fellows. History has proven that to be sage wisdom and advice. Mark

  9. Kinda makes you wonder what he does in his spare time. Hey, what if he's not doing it at all? What if, a UFO does all of the work, and he takes the credit? Mark
  10. Never done it on TD step-in's but, my Rossignol SIS (the screen door latch kind, as PSR used to call them) are easy to jump into on the fly. Very nice for powder days when the soft minkeys are strapping in. Mark
  11. Hey, is that Burntwood run you're on? Very nice form and function. I was at the Beav today. Nice day anywhere in Northern Utah. Mark
  12. Adele is my new girlfriend so please don't tell my wife! I know it's only RoCk N rOLL BUt I LiKe It! It's only KnOcK AnD KnOw-ALL BUt I LiKe it, YeSs I Dooo! ...yes I do Very cool sounds going on there C-Scooby! Mark
  13. Hey, you're on a blue square on the Hidden Lake lift. That's a great run you are both on. Rode there last year with Don R. and Buell. Mark
  14. So John, tell us, in what fashion are you going to take down social media? Please don't get me wrong, I'm actually in favor of what you are suggesting being close to the geezer status muh-self. However, by calling oneself a Luddite, itself a social movement, one must admit a more militant approach to getting rid of this new way of communication. What exactly would you do to mitigate their influence? Non-participation doesn't count. Mark
  15. Nah, nah, nah, nah-nah-nah-nah, Nah-nah-nah-nanna-nah-nah-nah..... Wow, looks like a centerfold to me. What's some of her favorite likes, and dislikes? Mark
  16. But your hands don't carve. Your reaching for the snow on toeside turns and your not pressuring the nose and the heel edge on your heelside turns. Think about pushing your knees toward the snow in your turns. Let your ankles roll into and out of the turns. Keep your shoulders level to the hill. Outside (downhill) arm down. Uphill arm up. Bend zee kneez, five dollars pleez. Good luck. Read 'The Norm' on this website. Jack Michaud wrote it and it's helped many of us here. Mark
  17. Family Guys' Herbert is elderly fellow who likes young boys. My comment was based upon his mannerism of speaking in the show. The hook on comment is making fun of the fact that instead of 'Herbert' (the ski patrol old guy) having the upper hand on the young lads, the two riders had the upper hand on him by having the video evidence. Sorry, maybe too vague of a reference on my part. Mark
  18. Mmmmm, Jesse! Looks like we got a hook on! Hmmmmmm.....! Mark
  19. Yeah but, Mick c'mon! These guys see you layin' trenches and they are mesmerized like sick little pups watching you lay down lines at Basin. For those of you who may be late for the show here, Mr. BoardGuru is the show at Basin. Kudos to you, Mick. I've watched this guy ride over the years and I can tell you that he is what is moniker says he is. I'll ride with your posse soon! Mark
  20. Your point is well-taken. Perhaps, the host was 'guarding' the hit or just being there to discourage anyone from using the boost. Even more reason for the second host to encourage the rider to not hit it. This guy seemed to be in control and in tune with the riders and had the situation under control. What is most disconcerting is the conduct of Captain White Cross. Completely uncalled for. The free world will still function without this man. Rent-a-cop-on-skis. Can you imagine this guy with some real authority? At least he had the aplomb to apologize after he noticed the camera pointed at his face. Such grace under fire. Look, this is not a good situation for Snowbasin and once this video gets back to HQ they may decide to do nothing at all and to hope that it dies. On the other hand, Mr. Potty Mouth may end up giving an apology to the Ogden Standard-Examiner in a few days and not be seen on the mountain the rest of this season. The point is, be careful (including me, you and all of us) about what you say, write, do, and act upon anymore. I've watched the video enough to know that the host seemed to be within his rights to question the lad as to his proximity to another person. What remains in question is the level of severity that was exercised on the part of the second party ex post facto. I was impressed with the level of care taken by the two lads who were party to this. Kudos to them for being level-headed when the more mature person wasn't. Mark
  21. I'm familiar with Snowbasin as are a few of us here on the board. This is ridiculous behavior on the part of the Ski Patroller. The Mountain Host may have a valid point about the snowboarder getting too close to the stationary skier. I must add that if one looks at the video again, you'll notice that the skier in blue is perched at an in-run to a little kicker. Sure, the snowboarder should have called off the 180 with the skier on the in-run. I don't know how many times I've witnessed skiers and boarders blocking entrances to jumps, kickers, trails, narrow trails, and NOTHING gets said to them by Ski Patrol. It's always the poor slob who tries to get around them that gets the stern lecture. As to the patroller who told the kid to STFU, I'd like to see him walking down the road with a with a final payroll check in his hand. Does Snowbasin management know about this guy yet? If they don't discipline him, they should at least wash his mouth out with soap before he kisses his mom again. Mark
  22. This is, quite possibly, the post of the year. Can we get a separate sticky or thread going on this? Moderators? EmDee has captured a pivotal moment in snowboarding here. 'Twisting your feet'; the last time I twisted my feet I ended up married and having three kids. That amounts to over 30 years of my life. I've never twisted my feet whilst snowboarding. Thanks EmDee! Mark
  23. It also looks like a very quick way to drown if anything goes wrong. Mark
  24. Fin, Will the SB plates fit onto TD2 bases? Thanks! Mark
