  1. Dsub, Here's a glimpse of me. Take your position minus the insignificant characters equals me. i. e. : "FRom the OutsiDe LOOKING InsiDe" less sm case = me: FR(kn) OD(d) LOOKING ID Don't let the SuperEgo eclipse intelligence O K ? Get it? Me neither. Thanks for the compliment though.
  2. For the record: I love the Grateful Dead I think handmade viruses are wicked cool In the english language "I" usually refers to the author when in quotes RJ and Bob- thanks you guys are right on DSUB- who do you know in Tahoe to make such generalizations? TCR's do not live here Rick F does not teach boarding- he instructs on the internet Nate-thanks for the benefit of the doubt but, I do suck Shred G- Sorry you missed it, maybe it wasn't as good an idea we discussed yesterday! Anyone who is still insulted- work less, ride more and read some Jonathan Swift! Shred and Steve- thanks for the inspiration and encouragement
  3. Nope. Sorry Alan. Get forward, all the way. And yes, you do, in fact, want to load the nose with this board. I'm 195 lbs and I can put "all" my weight in front of my lead toe to initiate without posting. Once engaged you can stand up a little only to dive forward into the next turn. My front inserts are by the way t-bolted in front of the stock inserts (which only lasted 25 days on my original Madd)
  4. Ah yes, a Kemper Apex I wager. 170 cm 1988-1990. Wicked fun asym, killer pow ride- better t-bolt the inserts! Any other guesses? Embrace the face.
  5. Retired my Sorrels (duct tape and all) in '89 with the arrival of my Kemper Apex. Never bought a pair of "soft boots" unless you consider switching from racing ski boots to 325's in '93.
  6. Actually, Spring conditions like these are excellent for technical carving. The trick is to follow the sun and ride the transition. Ride the NE facing slopes as soon as you can get a fingernail in. It's been 19o/52o the last few days on the So. Shore so it may not soften until 9:30-9:45a but you can ride 'til lunch! If you don't want to go over the bars in the firm stuff, just choose a GS length.
  7. Wow Rick, You really do know Tahoe. I'm just trying to figure out if you're a wanker, a tourist attraction or working on your English... I can't picture you with kids/family. When your English gets better, meet me at the top of Ramarah's fingers- might bring an extra pair of shorts it's been a little firm up there.
  8. Thanks Shaggy, Youv'e got mail- and a little story to put a smile on your face-Tim
  9. Those are the new speeds, aren't they? I'll take them. If you reply here I'll get right back to you. Paypal good for you?
  10. Speeds? Trade intec heels (also used twice) + $?
  11. Maybe the 2000 reflects "millenium edition"?
  12. Sims 1710 switchblade red w/gold graphics 1987? We just backcountry'd these (Mt. Tallac, etc.) until the 'Wood welcomed us in 1989. Not "old school"; Pre-school.
  13. Sims 1710 Sims swithblade proto (All white top) Sims "downhill"? (long, stiff, directional) Gnu Raceroom ("Aerospace composite slopetool" w/cow poop graphics) Rossi Alpine 173 Kemper Apex GS (and flamingo power suit!) Oxygen L E 1/70 (rare carbon top- still unridden $$) FP Team sl (red- 164ishX17.5) FP team gs (red- 184ishX18) FP 164 stock-yellow (NO comparison to the team boards) Madd 170 (Original white sides) Aggression 173 Volant 162 Volkl 163RT NIP Roundtails: Winterstick severe terrain 66 (for the kites) Wild Duck Swap61 (replaces Madd for pow/cliffs) Difference: Women vs. boards I can remember the boards
  14. Amen Chris, Weekend warriors in cubicle cages... PS, thanks for the tip on the Wild Duck- it arrived yesterday. Alas, a day too late.
  15. Thanks Cole! The duck has landed and just as you represented it. Very fast and an excellent packing job. Too bad it didn't get here yesterday...I just put an end to my original Madd. But chutes have rocks and POW is undeniable...
  16. Thanks Bordy, How can any disagree with that? Either you're comfortable at speed...or you're not. Either you like to drag your d*ck in the dust...or you don't. Today was thigh deep in the trees at the Heave and I broke my original Madd in a chute. Either I'll have a wake...or I won't. Still looking for the smiley with the big tears...
  17. ZR- I'll take the duck for hucking in the park. Might it fly in the pipe? Kiteboarding?I'll email you for details- paypal or whatever ? Split the flight to Tahoe? Thanks C H for your thoughts- you talk straight here. -Tim
  18. To increase the toe box on your thermos I just cut the first 3 inches off an old pair of neo-booties(kiteboarding/surfing) which worked great. Any reputable boot shop will have different toe boxes to choose from. I have an 11.5 US foot and my Raichle M27's are perf!
  19. So is the band going to buy the board, or Coors? This is the most extravagant bump I've seen and exploitedrights can use all the help he can get with this one!
  20. Boots are unused but thermo liners heated once? mondo 27? I'll take 'em. Thanks. I'll call you with my phone number.
  21. 0-20 days : revered pocket rocket for ego- snow only 20-50 days: favorite stiks for all-around mid-season work 50-75 days: everyday cruisers for early/late season 75++ :Steeps, chutes, cliffs (rocks) POW, OB, backcountry
  22. Bob, Wow, $1500?? No board goes 500 days for me. And, Yes, I still ride my original Madd, mostly in the "rocks" you mention. We call them cliffs. My Madd was 75% at 50-70 days and noodled after 120. Yes, it looks fine. The carbon still loads nicely and there's camber too. It's just not 1/10 the board it was. BTW it is and has always been a phenomenal pow stik. Like a jet with the wings folded in.
  23. Quiver. Absolutely. Different rides for different glides. I have 15 or so 'new-to-me" boards in the last 10 years- square tails all. I have never spent more than $400 on a deck. Some new (never retail) but most I buy from pros off the circuit with similar body shape (no, I'm not as big as Terje). Some boards are because you guys don't like 'em. Last year I got two nearly new Volants (162,173) from different places for about $100 ea! I was hoping one might last the season. These boards absolutly rock. More a freecarve feel than race stock. The 162 is stiffer and turnier than my 170 Madd, but just as stable at speed. Even though I became enchanted I decided to ride these all out, maybe one would last the season? Probably 20 days on each and they're next to perfect. Hard edges and bases, no signs of delam. Anyhow... it's not the board. PS Jack: I admire your postings/thoughts/articles but please, a 200 day board? The only board that went 100 days for me @85% was my Madd. At 200+ days now it's my favorite Pow/chutes/rock board but rides kind of like an old girlfriend on terra firma. Will a titanal board go 200+ days? I'm 6' about 200 lbs.
  24. AT first, most boards were carving shaped (minus the sidecut). My first "real" race board was the Apex GS170 with sno-pro's screwed into the kevlar deck. Wicked asym carver with light flex;Great in the air and pow. This was 1989 I think, the first year I rode on a commercial hill (Kirkwood). Most resorts followed suit in '90. If I have over 1000 days on plates, 500 of them were in racing ski boots. The boots were heck on our old Sno-pro's and Emery's. The bails were like coat hangers: I used to carry two extra toe bails and two extra heel bails. I would be shut down if I broke three in a session- it happened enough. We would usually come out (break) the back binding because of riding style. I've only snapped the front binding twice in 19 years...hairy scary. But I must have replaced back bails more than 50 times in the day. I've only released/failed a half a dozen times since switching to board specific boots in the late nineties. Contrary to all the "Bad Burtons" threads, when you are carving well, breaking a back binding needn't be catastrophic- you just get euoro and ride it out, your'e feet stay in the sweet spot...hopefully. As for front failure: Don't. Of all my early equipment, I have only the Apex and a 1988 Kemper Power Suit, "It's not pink...it's FLAMINGO" which I still use to freak out tourists in the trees!
  25. I'm 43. Highest Achievement: Living next to a resort for 22 yrs. Biggest Smile: Delivering life-time ego shots on a dedicated race-stik in the bottomless POW-trees to jibbin' 18 yr olds. First carving plank: Gnu RaceRoom "aerospace composite slope tool" ca. 1988? Anybody else still have their Carribous with ski bladder and duct tape?
