  1. Looking for opinions of the above. Reason being I got some bearings for my boy the other night that seem a bit slow compared to what I have on my longboard. They are the Abec 7 Red Chinas with these big Excate Turbos

I am currently on Randall 2 180's, Abec 11gumballs, abec 7 amphetamines and love how it rides.

Or is there one resource out that reviews all longboard equipment.

  2. Quoting my favorite lyrics of the CD. Great build up of intensity in that segment of the song. If that doesnt make you wanna knock stuff over I dont know what will.

    Great Song.

And it typifies the existence of our current societal state of mind. Couch potatoes, feed me feed me, what is Paris doing, what is lindsey doing, what is blah blah b;lah doing. Makes me :barf::barf::barf:

Get off your a$$, get out an do something, to much to see, too much to do to much fun to be had. What does one care who Aniston is dating or whther BRad and Joile adopted another kid.

Live your own life and make something of it, phucking vegetables.

    Just fed up with it.

WW not directed at you, just generally spewing

  3. I see a multitude of products available from both of these.

I am looking to edit some photos, i.e. dropping background from an object in the photo and some graphic design.

Can anyone advise which product of each of these is best for what I am looking to do or "know of a resource"? THey are bit more pricy than I would have expected.

    Thanks

  4. Saw them again in NJ boardwalk hall. Took a guy that I wakeboard with who is an avid guitar player. We paid heavy for the tix but great seats. Guy i went with said he would have paid 3 times what we did. he is still reeling about it.

Had a ticket to another show , but had to be out of town for work.

Currently working on my longboard skate decks and plan to do some custom models for each of them and ship them to them. Just looking for some good graphics to get burned onto the decks.

Hope the summer is going well.

  5. Personally??????

Once I finish building my first line of boards, I'm looking for other places to get the name out there besides local folks riding them and my website. Do you think he would be open to carrying an independent line of boards?

It will be about 1 month before I go "live", but looking to see what is out there.

I rode my first 46"-er today, that has more flex than my 40's, but it was a great cruiser, turner and bomber. Took a half run to get use to it, but I dug it. Can't wait to get some in other folks hands.

I will post pics once the website is launched.

  6. Has anyone tried or have the seismic trucks and what are their characteristics complared to other trucks?

Just trying to see what else is out there. I am currently on Randall II 180 with gumballs and love them, but the supplier I am going thru for my other boards I'm building is fresh out of those for his package deals.

Looking to better my knowledge for secondary and teriary set ups when my primary is unavailable.

    Thanks

  7. Been routing this past weekend and the BB does not splinter (only when jigging). Only pain is when the router decides to take off like is has a mind of its own. My boards have some concave and undulations for wheel well and toe and heel lift so when it gets to those areas it tends to take bigger bite. I guess just some practice and patience.

Finally finished my first real deck and have four other awaiting shaping, sanding and enamel.

Once I get them built, I will post.

    I'm loving it.

  8. I havent gotten to it yet, been working on building my sons rocket shaped deck. I finally got my shape cut though and I have begun to round the edges with a sander to lessen the material needed to be routed.

The block planer sounds good but may be a bit difficult for me as I think I have Carpal Tunnel in both wrists so manual wood working may be a challenge.

All in all, I cant get over how fun it is making these damn boards. After all the work I put in to making my first snowboard last year, the skateboards are more fun for me, because you can average one a day if you have the garage set up right. Its fun to see the board come out of the clamps the next morning. If I get bored, I cut another BB sheet and glue and press another blank.

My biggest challenges have been the finish and then I dont even know what to do for graphics if I decide to get away from natural wood finish. I read that one maker has a grippy finish, anyone know what it is?

Lastly, looking for an average set of wheels trucks and bearings for my 4 year old son. He is riding the board like a sled now but I will soon get him up on his feet. Cant see spending $$$ on high end stuff if not necessary.

Gotta run and thanks for the input.

  9. Second deck just came out of clamps and I jigged the shape I wanted, but I noticed some very small areas where the plys of the BB lifted from its original sheet, leaving gouges (1/4" or so). Only comparison I can give is when you use a circular saw or jig saw on a sheet of plywood and it splinters and lifts from the sheet.

Looking to use a router on the edges to round them, but worried the sheet plys may splinter and leave those splintered gouges. Will it splinter when routing or is ther something I can put on deck to minimize potential?

    Thanks

  10. Didnt use vac bag, started with center piece first, simply put some boards under the nose and tail to make the camber and clamped the heck out of it. Planed the sides flat and then epoxied the poplar sides with clamps and reinforced with screws. Not the best way, but its working.

I do have my snowboard press, but I need to finalized my bladder to get the PSI I want. For now I will just clamp. The challenge on the second one is getting the wheels wells molded in. I'm not using foam, just cutting custom pieces of wood to create wells and camber.

I weigh 200lb and it doesnt flex one bit under me. I like it that way becuase I seem to get quicker response from trucks.

    Width is just under 10"

JBS, let me know when you want to get together.

  11. Let me know what you think. Kinda hard to stay away from some of the shapes out there, but the next few hope to be a bit more funky.

Mahogany center with Poplar outside. Topside is a bit dirty, after coating with poly for about 7 days, I got sick of looking at it in the garage and took it out yesterday evening when it wasnt fully cured. gotta sand it down any way.

It rode well, but I have nothing to compare it to. Hips, butt and thighs are a bit tight this morning. good to be on a board though :biggthump

    On to the next build.

  12. BB seems bit too soft compared to my first build, which was mahogany and CF. I like that it was stiff. When using BB how many layers are you doing. I can get 7 layers per sheet of BB. Got it for $11.97 by the way, thanks for the insight.

I will add some CF to these next few and once complete I will post.

PS what type of urethane do ppl use to finsih them

  13. Guys

After a few beers last Thursday night, I decided to make my first longdeck. I will post pics when I get a chance. A bit too skinny at only 7" wide, but that is all the wider the plys I got from my cousin. 42" long made of 5 plys of 1/8" mahogany with two layers of carbon fiber. Used wood glue and put about 1.5" of camber. Stiff as hell, no flex whatsoever, but I like it. Still need to do some extra work on it, but I'm tickled for how well it worked being made for the heck of it.

Took it to the local school lot with the boy tonight and it rode very well for my first skate build. We took several runs, only about 50 yards of open sloped lot, but could get some nice arced turns in. Mind you, this was my first time on a skateboard in 18 years.

Doing big bottom turns at end of lot to head back up hill and going to slow on thelast run, hung up on a small rock and got whipped to the pavement elbow first, walla blood, no pads.

I will gear up for the bigger hills around here, but it was actually fun to get bloodied for the first time in 20 years.

    It's great to be back.

Now I gotta talk my wife into letting me by the material I need to build the next few.

  14. Anyone know where these builders get their wood, whether it be baltic birch , hard maple or whatever else they decide to make it from?

Been searching like a mad man but few hits, and many suppliers of that thickness only go 24" in length.

    Any help would be sweet.

Also, anyone have a diagram of laminate layers and directions based on # of plys.

    Thx

    Greg

  15. You guys are making my head hurt. Now I gotta start learning all this longboard tech stuff and equip. stuff like moving over to alpine 4 years ago. Guess I gotta read and ride.

Ordered my wheels trucks and bearings kit this week (Gumballs, randalls)and ordering maple plys to build the board. Reading the thread by Dr D took me back to being a kid on the local hill getting the road rash wobble. Best thing we could do was get to the road edge and tumble into the plushiest lawn. Had me openly laughing.

Thanks for bringing back memories while also being mor ecareful on my first trip out in 20+ years
