  1. Thanks for correction, I recall threads about terminology, but managed to forget this in the meantime
  2. Here is picture from last year's carving camp, rider Joni. For me as "amateur" rider it looks very good technique/style: body seems to be well balanced, aligned and centered. Rider's motto is: "get yer hands off da snow" and he's good at it. BTW, board is Tinkler, so: no, it's not broken :) And snow on his gloves/pants is result of soft slopes due to snowstorm lasting 3 days and making conditions for carving quite challenging...
  3. Couple of more C-s (hope that Jack corrects me, if I've misunderstood his text), rider Pokkis, pics by me from 2007 ECS. Though actual style name in this case is not C but "flegmatic carving"
  4. Yeah, "bear fighter" retro-style riding, me likes it
  5. This thread reminds me sightseeing from Norway in March, 2007. Though board belonged most likely to Danish rider (probably not much of surprise;): http://carving.grewu.org/ojankaivajat/2007/oppdal/danskboard.JPG
  6. For powder/rock one can just bring soft boots and rent a board? Ya/Nay? So it makes 1-2 carving boards. I'm in the lower limit in last 5 years with my one board for all. Almost: when non-fluffy powder hits, then I just rent soft gear (but this happened once in last 5 years), otherwise my carving board will go to anywhere thanks to my location: generally it will take plane or 5-hour trip to get to hills, which are worth of riding...
  7. +1 for Tooltonic: IMO the best edge handling system. I tried several others: some were cheaper and lighter (plastic), but didn't work after a while (files dropped off, hard to handle etc), some were cheaper and bigger and weighted more, but similar to Tooltonic in terms of compactness and usability I have to find yet. Yes, it costs a lot, but IMO it's well worth of. Waxing/tuning edges myself generally, only in case of bigger base repairs go to tuning shop....
  8. Ballsy? Sorry, my parser gave syntax error on this :D Maybe eddie had influence, maybe not. As classics stated: "Let's not bicker and argue about who killed who." I don't think that it's possible to determine, who is the best and who has influenced whom. If Eddie comes to these corners of earth and gives similar or better performance, then I'm happy to change my statement, until then Gilbert is my hero
  9. Not a summer concert anymore (as autumn has started some weeks ago in northern hemisphere) Anyway, here is my story: last Saturday "The Man, The Myth, The Genius" :D of guitar Paul Gilbert visited my town and gave concert. I was so exited, that 2 days after this event his latest album "Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar" was the only and one CD which rotated in my player. I tried to enjoy his CD-s before ("Burning Organ", from 2002) but didn't like his singing. But instrumental CD-s (his last 2 solo ones): Needless to ask what I'm listening right now...
  10. I used this Spyder's top last season. Haven't had serious testing (knock on wood!) but from experience can say that seems comfortable (used also Dainese's back protector vest on top of it and managed to completely forget about them during riding). Only issue seems to be that elbow protector pads seem to rotate out of position and couple of landings on hard ice were quite painful. What I don't like is that it is top model and forces me to wear additional layer on top of it: without this my beer belly shows up between pants and top:eplus2:, full length would be better.
  11. Actually the only people, who see Olympics live are spectators. CCTV broadcasts program to its own channels with 20 second delay and all other get 30 second delay. Due to "technical reasons". So 100 meters (and 200 and 110 hurdles) are already over before you hear shot.
  12. Wow. I don't know what there is used for such a trip, but I'll take 2 grams of it, please!
  13. Running. Ca. 3 x in total 10 km (6 miles) per week currently. Have plans to double (at least ) this during autumn/winter and add some uphill walking on sand slope for leg strength. And add some collagen nutrition products for ligaments development (to avoid problems with my knees during snowboarding). In previous summers used to bicycle, but now have cut it, as running is more effective in terms of effort per training minute :)
  14. I guess that this kinda explains why quite many artists have died at that age. Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Kobain, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Gary Thain. Thank god I passed this age without problems. Now something like another 20 years and then I can start to enjoy second childhood :)
  15. I had same considerations as Jack with chest bag: it would get in a way during carving when getting really compressed. At least my carpet test showed that this could be possible, so I haven't tried it in field, instead ride with bag on my back. Otherwise good advices above. But man, where were you with these advices some years ago when I started to shoot? If you had written them at this time, then it wouldn't have been necessary for me to learn them hard way from first-hand experience!
  16. I've used 2 bags: 1. Tamrac 5549 Adventure 9, when I use 70-200 f/2.8 lens and normal/wideangle zoom (for stand photos). Also I use this backpack for carrying my photo gear (and laptop) during my trips to mountain (which usually means plane trip) as carry-on baggage. It's quite well padded and should protect equipment without problems. On downside it's quite heavy (2kg/~4lbs, with D300 and 2 lens total weight was 6 kg) and big, additionally photo compartment is quite small and one can't put camera with 70-200 lens into it. So I use it only when I'm targeted to photographing and do easy riding only. 2.When I want to ride and photograph, then I use 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 lens (new AF-S VR Nikkor is quite OK in 70-250mm area, 300 becomes little bit soft) in my Kata T-212 torso pack. When I ride, then it's on my back, when I want to shoot, then I release one strap and can bring bag to my chest for easy access and shooting. Closing this strap again is little bit hassle, but otherwise I like it: seems to be well protected, is small and lightweight, quite stable when on back and doesn't affect riding at all. The only consideration is falling on back, but field testing has shown that small impacts make no harm neither to rider nor equipment :) Of course I wear back protector, so it's most likely camera or lens, which will break first.
  17. Oh well, decided also to show off (though it's from season 06/07). Showing here how low person can fall (without touching the snow :) ) Backside not so good, but I'm working on it... Props to Pokkis who took the photo. Next winter I'll try to fall even lower...
  18. Whoa! Creative editing and new camera angles! Me like it very much.
  19. Nah, I guess that someone got idea from Shred's post in this forum :) http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?p=179855#post179855
  20. That's what I wanted to see when I started this thread. Thanks for this video!
  21. Years are not equal, Tom says, that he has ridden ca. 250 days during 4 years, I've been on hard boots 6 years, but I'm not sure that I've got even 100 days in total: my maximum riding days in one season was ca. 30 and average is 10-15 So one person's year can be to other person's year as human year to dog year :)
  22. Don't listen MP3 player during riding, but bought it for listening during trips to mountains (for me it means usually plane trip, so waiting/flying takes considerable time). Haven't bought any tunes from net yet, instead I've ripped some of my CD-s to MP3 and loaded some of them to mp3 player. But to show what I listen, here is list of ripped groups/artists (it's not final, as I've ripped only small part of my CD-s, but it should hint, that hard/prog rock/fusion is my favourite): After Forever Anekdoten Arena Attention Deficit Bozzio Levin Stevens Carptree Deftones Derek Sherinian Devin Townsend Dope Dream Theater Fish Front Line Assembly Frost Greylevel IQ Jaco Pastorius Joni Mitchell King's X Kraftwerk Nexus Niacin Oxygene Ozric Tentacles Paatos Porcupine Tree Poverty's No Crime PrestoBallet Rammstein Riverside RoineStolt Serj Tankian Shadow Gallery Solar Stream Of Passion Symphony X The Flower Kings The Tangent Threshold Tony Levin TribalTech VandenPlas Weather Report Ųresund Space Collective Another hint of my preferences is release list from InsideOut Music, most of my CD-s are released by them.
  23. And when one follows link to the first article, then one can read following words: Should we take it literally? :D
  24. Mmmm, Carved In Stone I love it! Sorry, read the title and hit reply button :)
  25. Well, I enjoy beer from time to time (perhaps more often than should) but in this case this wasn't the case. This is one reason why I felt so disoriented in the morning: no bottles lying around but not understanding why I'm at the home instead of being in Zinal! :D
