  1. I found article in ski magazine about steepness: http://www.skimag.com/skimag/fall_line/article/0,12795,325926,00.html Indeed some slopes are up to 50 degrees average steepness I probably need ropes to descend such ones :D
  2. I don't think, that Conshox is supposed to float that much as you imagine, as it would leave rear binding open and moving/rotating and it would be Bad Thing . This pinching shouldn't be problem, I'm sure, that F2 engineers have figured it out, after all snowboarding ain't rocket science :D So you should not bottom screws to inserts, instead there should be some space left (at least one thread, as with usual mounting). I use currently F2 Intec Titanium bindings, previously I used F2 Intec Titanflex (for which I bought separate screws, as thanks to higher binding plate original screws, provided with Conshox, were too short). And I mounted them as usually, tightening screws as much as possible (without overdoing it) and checking them from time to time. My board is Silberpfeil, which is Conshox 'compatible'.
  3. You mean front? Threaded insert side of conshox will go to front, slots rear. Front of Conshox is attached to board, front binding to Conshox and rear binding is attached through the slots to the board. So far I haven't noticed problems with 'hard spots', only additional stiffness and stability :). I use Conshox with F2, so I don't know, how well it would fit other boards. But unless Volkl uses any other system than 4x4 (but only other system I know is Burton's 3D, used only on Burton boards AFAIK) it should fit there. What do you mean exactly by 'neither of any holes will line up'? In case of 4x4 binding distance should be 4 cm (1.57 inches) between holes, but I doubt that it is something else in Conshox or board. Only problem, which I could imagine, is that if you mount front of Conshox, then (some of) board's rear inserts will appear under Conshox and won't be accessible through slots.
  4. Monday: training for cold winter days: 1 litre (ca. 2 pounds) of I scream. Tuesday: weight lifting, small weights (a.k.a. beer), many reps (sips), usually 4-5 units (a.k.a. bottles). Wednesday: resting day. Thursday: cardio-vascular system training: 2 units (of red wine). Friday: weight lifting, small weights, as many reps as possible (6-10) and as long as possible (up to 6 am). Saturday: weight lifting: heavy weights (a.k.a. vodka), few reps (5-10 shots a 50-100 gram). Sunday: resting day, but I usually do some lightweight lifting to avoid problems, which may occur if training volume is decreased too suddenly. I intend to increase volume as much as possible before season kicks off :D Any suggestions for further improvement?
  5. Me no believe! 45 degrees? Groomed? Perhaps 45% instead?
  6. Does this avatar thingy work? Yeah. Look, mom, I can ski!
  7. I fighted in beginning of last season with shin bang, as I moved from Rossis freecarve board to more narrower and stiffer F2. I guess that it was mostly due to bigger stance angle, when I decreased stance, then bang was smaller, but then I got overhang. I tried Booster straps, but even they seemed not to help, my rear foot still suffered quite a lot. What really helped for me, was heel lift on back foot, after installing that problem was solved. Problem seemed to be, that my riding 'style' or setup required big forward flex from rear boot and it forced shin against boot (now I ride with position 2 in rear boot). Don't know, whether you have same problem, but here are my 2 cents anyway....
  8. Oh, I though that Hendrix belongs more to grass-boarding than snow-boarding :D
  9. If we talking about carved turns, then according to graph in this article (http://www.bomberonline.com/articles/physics.cfm) (BTW, Jack? Fin? this article suffered from conversion, some text is duplicated) I can make max. ca. 11 m/s (ca. 40 km/h or 24.5 mph) on carved turns, on 16 m sidecut board max. speed would be 15 m/s. Of course going straight could result in bigger speeds, but this is not the intended way of board's usage :) BTW, Maximum speed on board is AFAIK little above 200 km/h (or 125 mph) I found one article http://www.bulgariaski.com/snowboarding.shtml) about it, perhaps there is new record done in meanwhile, but I don't think, that it would be much higher anyway.

    Tunes

No tunes, as I can't hear voices in my head then! :D Although I like to listen music (mostly prog-rock, fusion, latest favourites are projects with Roine Stolt participation: Karmakanic, Tangent, Kaipa, Flower Kings), I don't like to do it during riding 'cos it seems to be unsafe. Instead I prefer to hear snowflake falling, wind humming, lift cracking, sounds from other riders, and most importantly this scraping sound from my board during sideslipping, telling me that I'm misusing my board's edges!
  11. OK, now I measured BOBSI of my board. I'm not quite sure, whether I did it correctly (effective edge means that board should be placed so, that support points are on effective edge 'edges'? And effective edge should be in meters instead of cm? ) but after fiddling with 102 CD-s as weight :D and number crunching I got result 11.6 for my 162 cm. Silberpfeil with Conshox. Seems like it is on stiffer side then. Probably thanks to Conshox. I'm too lazy to measure it without Conshox...
  12. Then how about: Crash board? Blind contact? Close encounters of Third Kind (don't ask what first 2 kinds are, I don't know!) OK, it's friday night and I'm too exited over this new board (unfortunately without snow:( ) and coming weekend (unfortunately without carving ) and couple of beers. So I guess that I should shut up....
  13. I think that he is cheating and taking short cut between poles More like over the poles :D
  14. Looking at such picture made me reconsider very seriously my desire to become good carver and I'm thinking now, that I'll be better off by picking up knitting as hobby. If I only could find good protective lenses, those knitting needles are damn sharp and I don't want to lose my eye! :D
  15. How about splitting this Carving Community forum into more groups? I propose following additional groups: * carving technique and equipment * gatherings, carving sessions, contacts etc. And this current carving community group would be for general conversation (for such topics, which do not fit into other groups). This way it would be easier to navigate here and it will be more organized.
  16. Hello! Thanks for new forum setup, hopefully now I can see pictures more easily, in old forum Mozilla didn't show linked pictures and I had to launch IE for seeing them :( Now question before old forums will be lost: some time ago (1 year? 2 years?) someone invented method to measure board stiffness by measuring its camber before and after loading. Has someone link to this thread any more? I'd like to measure my setup and compare it against other boards, but can't find this thread by search engine (can't remember, how it was called...) P.S. Why this message box is so narrow? In my browser (Mozilla) I can see 32 characters only in a row....
