  1. Canon 1D Mk IIn, a 40D, and a Pentax K1000. Film's nice, but you have to get very lucky or spend a lot of money to get that perfect action shot.
  2. TD2s with medium e-rings, no suspension kit, no plex plates or any other fluffy stuff work wonderfully on my schtubby. I will buy this board again because it simply does everything really well and it's a blast to ride. It's one of the most capable carvers I've ridden, but at the same time it's the least limiting alpine <i>snowboard</i> I've ridden.
  3. Where do the numbers for the interesting factoid about snowboarding now losing growth to skiing come from? NSAA? I wouldn't be too surprised, typical softboot snowboarders don't do the sport any favors sideslipping a whole trail. The weight is going to be a problem. A snowboard deck might weigh 5 pounds. So is the price. There is no "market" for a $2000 board. Yes, you can spend $2000 on a custom snowboard, but it is going to be hand made of unobtanium and you are either very rich or stupid, or you are going to ride it to an FIS World Cup podium. $1000 currently buys the best real-world boards. sure you can. don't say "can't" until you've ridden one. expert skiers can and do pressure both skis. One of the best skiers I've ever seen could leave perfect train-tracks all the way down the hill.

  5. Asyms are not unlike human sacrifice.... it seemed like a good idea at the time. Nate is right. And the footprint of the binding doesn't matter either.
  6. Just curious if you're aware of the Swingbo? And if so, what makes you think it will succeed this time around? I don't mean that rhetorically or in a mean way. http://www.oldsnowboards.com/pics/album66
  7. mohnjerkert, this would be a very poor choice as a first board. This is a collector's item at best. http://www.bomberonline.com//articles/asymetric.cfm
  8. are here: http://jmphotocraft.smugmug.com/gallery/4484815_z4Kur You know what would be cool is if you see yourself or a buddy in that gallery, to post a comment on the picture saying who you/they are.
  9. Oh, haha, watches. I thought he really liked Panera.
  10. I have one. It's 171.5cm. That's all I know for sure. IIRC, the running length is like 154 the waist is like 23, and the sidecuts are about 11m on toeside and 10m on heelside. It has no tail, and the nose will launch you over the bars. It's a piece of sh!t. But I loved mine for 3 years when I didn't know any better. Asyms are not unlike human sacrifice.... it seemed like a good idea at the time.
  11. Nice going Eric, well played. Check out our Welcome Center for some tips on easing into alpine. As others have pointed out, you don't buy snowboard boots to walk in. With moldable liners and decent footbeds, I don't touch my boots all day. Whenever I ride softboots, I have to crank the straps down to the point of near pain to get any performance out of them. There's none of that with hardboots.

    good beer

mmmm... 90 Minute IPA on tap must be nice. yeah, I found that belgianshop.com too. I might have to bite the bullet and get some Brune and also try the Leffe 9%. $50 minimum order. Hmm...
  13. Sounds like you know more than me. I just figured loading CF and fiberglass in compression were basically the same idea. *shrug*
  14. No. Your old standard toe clip bindings were sized too loose. A significant number of people prefer to ride this way, so they refuse to switch to step-ins. I like a stiff interface, so I always sized my standard bindings <del>properly</del>, err, tightly. When I switched to step-ins, there was no difference.
  15. The CF fibers in a cured sheet will resist out-of-plane displacement, so it is effective in compression too. I think this will be a neat project. It's basically what Madd does.

  17. Sure, that would probably work well. Or you could just buy a Madd...

What the hockey puck truck? How do you get Leffe Brune here?!?
  19. Nobody rags on lawyers that actually serve a purpose. Most are just like slinkies...
  20. if the tip and tail are rockered.... shouldn't the snow-stix be on the bottom? ;)
  21. ha, didn't I sell you that Burton? It was my buddy's from Tahoe. I have nothing useful to say, other than that he didn't use it much out there, what with all that annoying powder around.
  22. The comparison should be between the Prior WCR Metal and Coiler Schtubby - or - the Prior 4WD and Coiler All-Mtn. The shape of the Schtubby is similar to the WCR, but with a slightly shorter nose, and slightly wider waist. My Schtubby is 1cm wider (21) so it's even more versatile without compromising any carving ability. For GS turns like you said, you want either the WCR or Schtubby. The 4WD or AM have too short sidecut radii. For a GS board that can do all-mtn too, you want the Schtubby or a wider WCR.
  23. I think I may weep openly. My first "signature" board! Keep that template somewhere safe, I'll need another one when this one wears out! I've never bought the same board twice, but this is finally "the one". Although when I took delivery of it at Stowe, Shred held his Schtubby X2 up to mine base to base just for grins and indeed mine was 1cm shorter - so it should be 170cm.
