  1. Well, "famous" is one thing, but objectively speaking I'll put his 1 National Championship, 1 World Championship, 2 World Championship runner ups, and 2 Olympic gold medals up against Benoit's 1 Boston Marathon win and 1 Olympic gold, as awesome as both those were. (First female olympic gold marathoner, 1984, LA) But that's not the point of this discussion at all. It's just amazing to me that our local guy won back to back Olympic golds.
  2. Seth now stands alone as the most famous athlete in Maine history. I'm not checking that, but who else could it be? Pretty sure this eclipses Joan Benoit. I've never seen a come-from-last win in bx. Sick. I'm at Sugarloaf now, the place is going off.
  3. Gondolier, Perry Merrill, Liftline, Hayride, Lord.
  4. hardboots aren't as good for recorvering from a mistake, near fall, collision, etc. although the silver medalist in Torino was a very very close second, in hardboots.
  5. got one yesterday... "so did you try snowboarding before that?"
  6. Cypress is smaller, and right in Vancouver. Whistler is taller and a ~2 hour drive north. http://cypressmountain.com/mountain-stats http://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/mountain/stats/index.htm and you know what they say about rain in the valley....
  7. yeah, Cypress != Whistler, but one might make that extension based on the coverage.
  8. That is great to hear skategoat. Hopefully when the skiing and boarding coverage starts, people will see that Whistler is in good shape. Right now the distinct impression being given is that it's a complete melt-down. And I agree, I love the Olympics.

  10. This Olympics has to be the worst marketing disaster in the history of Whistler/Blackcomb. Who would ever book a vacation there, now knowing the risk of this weather?
  11. It is really stupid that curling gets more coverage than alpine snowboarding. Shuffleboard on ice.
  12. Thanks, not a dumb question. Not quite a point-n-shoot, Canon 5DII with 24-70/2.8L and 70-200/4LIS. Except for the shot of us in the Mangy Moose, that was a p&s Panasonic TS1. Bumped into a girl there that I had instructed with at Sugarloaf, and she had been in JH 10 years. They call it "getting stuck in the hole". I can totally see how it would happen. The place is magical. I hear its just as good in the summer. Whenever I hear from my friends who live thousands of miles from our home town and they're complaining that they have to take a week's vacation just to visit their parents, I chuckle at them. But being in JH I was half wishing I had made the move.
  13. Just got all the images sorted out and uploaded, here's some more... view from the top of the tram apres at the mangy moose in Jackson elk horn sculpture the wife, rippin' we didn't go Grand Teton on Rendezvous Bowl Rendezvous Bowl
  14. mondays through fridays I play a mild mannered software engineer.
  15. look where you are going. if you just look down the fall-line, your body alignment will open up as the turn comes around and you'll be facing the toeside edge. board and body should turn as one.
  16. JD, I think deep down, you really do GAF. And that's... okay. I want you to look into the mirror at yourself and say "self, I don't have to... slide on my skiboard really fast all the time, or, slice the biggest tracks into the snow, or, have the biggest truck tires, or, drink the most PVR... because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like me!" On a side note I had a revelation last night. I'd been trying to remember where the hell I'd seen DILLIGAF before, and then it hit me. It was the name of this old dude's boat. I asked him what a dilligaf was and he just chuckled and made something up. This was when I was like 10.
  17. Haha, yeah, I need to try the purples, the yellows were too soft for me. I actually had to stop and make sure I was still locked in the bindings several times, it felt so loose sometimes. But that Kessler is pretty stiff, so the Sidewinders gave back some of the comfort a stiff board takes away. I would hope the purples would be better than that, but maybe there is a need for a red/hard option. I could see the T32 influence all over your riding, which is a good thing!
  18. seriously though, have you tried moving the bindings forward? Try an inch forward of wherever you are now. If you're already all the way forward, try backing off a bit.
