  1. paulk are you coming to big mtn this year?

Not gonna make it this year. at least not for the whole week. It will be a last minute trip if I do go, dependant on remaining vacation time, balanced with plans to go to Telluride and or Calgary...both places I've never been to.

  2. The two-page spread of Jean Nerva surfing a powder wave on the inside front cover of that catalog is still to this day the best photograph of a snowboarder ever taken. To me it says, "this is snowboarding. you can't do this on skis."

    Paul, can you oblige?

I've been trying to seek out that turn ever since....

got alot of practice the last few days at Stratton:)

  3. Hey Paul can you e-mail me that photo of the specs page and/or post some specs? I have a 170 Safari Comp II, black and white.

I also picked mine up with the Ledgends at Donner race in mind. I put the old variplates on it. I didn't make it to the race last year but I did dress up and take it for a spin for retro day at Mt. Rose last year.

    PM sent!

  4. To say that I was in love with my Coiler 177 All Mountain today would be understated. Fast and fun on the early morning soft cord, Stable and solid on the midday bumps, and floating thru the late day powder. Not even a metal board, and it rocked. Thanks for the great board Bruce!

  5. I still have my Madd 168BX its the last Madd other than my girlfriends 170 with the evil chocolate girl with the teeth....

The graphics alone are worth $400...

Helmut, Cuban,, Gregg, Dallas..buy this thing....here's your chance...

Shagg.... Helmut may call ya.... I just spoke with him :)

    Right Said Shred

Hey...why am I not on this list...

Nevermind, I'm the proud new owner of the Evil Chocolate girl, and she's going to Aspen! Sorry Helmut.

  6. When I was in Vermont a couple of years back Mike from Madd had a couple of small ones there. I'm sure he said it was Italian, and might have been made in the same factory as the original Madds?

it was a nice looking board ...

I ended up with one of these small decks from Mike. A 156 maybe. Only rode it a few times and never really got it to ride like a Madd 158. It was made in Italy and I don't think it glows in the dark. Currently sitting in the basement waiting for a good base grind and tune before I ride it again.

  7. Play follow the leader with the fastest guy on the mountain. Believe me, you'll find a way to carve, control, and dice down that mountain. Long ago, this meant following around some guy on GS skis. Now there are plenty of fast carvers all over the World.

This is a reckless way to learn.....I don't want to be the guy you hit, because you were riding "in over your head".

Also. . . pick up some speed on the greens. If you can lay out nice carves on green trails, you've got the technique. Now try the same without "speed loss". Point it down hill more and drive off of your turns and keep pushing down hill. Stay far away from others.

I love the greens for learning, and so does everyone else. It's not the place to be pointing it down the hill. May I suggest instead, find an intermediate trail and try to follow a slow rider or skier, but concentrate on not going past them by making full carving turns. It will improve your patience, and your control, something that will benefit you greatly on steeper terrain. After all that was the original intent of this thread, right?

You may just be poking around up and over "optimal speed".

I like this opinion much better...much closer to the problem at hand:)

I really wish I was riding instead of sitting at work all weekend.

  8. Comp I = 160cm, SL (this is your board)

    Comp II = 165cm, GS

    Comp III = 175cm, SG/DH

The Comp I had a narrower waist, I think 255mm.

    Safari Comp I

    Overall Length:160cm.

    Nose/Waist/Tail width:288/245/283

    Running surface: 130 cm.

    Camber: 9mm.

    Sidecut magnitude per side: 20mm

    weight: 4.0 kg.

"New tighter stance width for modern

    riding technique with multiple widths:

    39.4 and 42.7 cm."

"The Safari Comp I was designed for

lighter weight men and women who want

a board that is extremely quick edge to

edge. For riders up to 150 lbs."

  9. I guess it was not a short board meeting after all

Friday turned into an AM board meeting...that lasted until 3pm.

In other news, I don't like what I'm seeing on TWC...rain/mix all the way up to Maine? Next tuesdays board meeting may be relocated to Jay Peak or Sugarloaf.

  10. I have the 2004 65 boardercross shape. bought the first one from the factory store in Mass. for less than $300 as a Demo in 2004. Bought the second one from Klug riding .com last year and thrashed it over the rock bands in Chile this past august. Waiting to order my next one before x-mas. Three hard winters, and I always brought that board with me on every trip, as an easy carver/ all-mountain board. Soft flex in the nose, stiffens at the bindings all the way to the tail. If you like the stiffness of a Madd in the nose this 65 is not for you. Shred Grummer hated it, Shredder Jen loved it.... Burton made it only one year and I'm guessing the racers hated it...

I have no time on any of the other r17's..
