  1. Heading up next weekend, Fri, Sat, Sun. Splitting between skiis and board depending on what the legs will take.
  2. OK cool, let me know if you come by June.
  3. Me and my youngest will be back in June with a few other friends on 3-4 and 3-5. 3-4 is early ups at Mammoth but will likely skip that, outside of the free breakfast June is like early ups all day. Anyone else? Bueller? Bueller?
  4. What is the mondo size? 22-24 is a big range
  5. Eric, so I should be initiating with a cross under on steeper terrain? or in general?
  6. Joe, you are right. Straight leg especially in the first heelside after passing camera. I can tell when I straight leg but havent figured what I do that leads up to doing it, maybe lazy? Funny thing when it is steeper, I am getting much lower and touching boots but still not burying the hip to the hill on heelsides. Do you have a board that may fit Colson/Kim? since they are about the same size now.
  7. Ill work on getting more video, but my youngest typically runs off with the gopro and shoots 30 minutes of "pointed too low from the chest mount" before killing the battery... he he
  8. He can carve edge to edge without skidding the transition where it is a little flatter but on the vid here, he is scrubbing off a bit for sure. Also any feel free to critique my riding. Ive been hardboots for about 3 years, basically self taught outside of riding with a few guys better than me, and would love to get the heelside much deeper. I have just this year been able to truly carve Deer bowl (a groomed black diamond but really a steep blue), but the heels dont fall as comfortably as the toes.
  9. One of the problems with alpine/carving/hardbooting is entry into the sport. With the lack of readily available gear, on a rental basis, it is difficult to "try out" hardbooting. Colson, my youngest son, 15 has primarily been a skier and has natural ability. He would board a couple days out of the season and maybe for a half day max. He picked up the basics quickly but never progressed until I got pissed and said I'm not going to pack and bring up his boarding stuff unless he was going to try. Suddenly it clicked for him and he was enjoying it much more. Now he is at the beginning stages of riding the edge. He is now wanting to try hardbooting and I think he would pick it up and start carving quick. Now this is a proud time for me that he and my older son want to HB like dad, but... the hard part is how do I even go about starting them? My older son barely boards has 2 days in and is not as a quick learn as my younger son but he is a skilled but not an aggressive skier. My older son is close to if not fitting into my size so I *may* be able to put him into an old pair of boots, oooold rosignol's that I used for about a season. Do I start him with the soft HB's? or do I try to get him more proficient on a soft set up first? For my younger son. How do I go about starting him? Rent AT boots and beg/borrow a junior board? He is now 5'1" and barely 100 lbs. Here is a quick video of myself (3 year hardbooter) and my younger son on the flatter upper part of Gunsmoke. Gunsmoke
  10. I was at Mammoth for the weekend with family and some other friends that were set on doing Mammoth so that's what we did Sat and Sun. Sunday was good but me and the family were longing for the hero groom of June so we went there on Mon knowing we'd get more gravity for the time and get back on the road home. We rode mostly on J7 then finished up with a couple on Gunsmoke. There were 2 other HB's riding Gunsmoke, thought everyone was at ATC...
  11. Yep, crowds on Saturday. The cloud deck stayed low and the upper mountain never opened. Sunday was good, Monday went to June and that made the whole weekend worthwhile.
  12. Looking like the Mtn got heavy rain, maybe snow above McCoys. Hopefully snow begins replacing rain soon. Ill be on the Mtn Saturday, expecting small crowds, Yea... Right... Maybe I hit June Sunday if I convince my group to avoid crowds. Monday should be not so bad at Mammoth
  13. Ha Ha. Wall squats or push-ups? I have been known to travel with "pocket meat", just ask slopestar.
  14. Oh crap! I am that guy. I prefer to not ride with the pack but I need to hydrate, I mostly ride without breaks until done and need to store my snacks. When hot lapping a chair, I leave my pack at the top on a picnic table or next to the patrol sled, but that is at June, I'd never do that at Mammoth. Guess I need a carvers etiquette class. LOL
  15. Yo solito? Anyone? Acoustic, did you make it up? Stay till Friday?
  16. Not particularly a big tennis fan but will watch a good tennis match before golf or baseball.
  17. Ill be back for more, anyone from the SoCal Trenching crew?
  18. When... Your legs are telling you that you have done enough but the turns are flowing with the terrain, the edge wont give up so neither do I but I end up grunting down the run like Monica Seles in a grueling set. And just then feeling most ridiculous, someone yells from the lift "woo hoo! yeah!" Oh, and this AFTER I was asked if I was the dad of my 50 year old friend. LOL.
  19. I am financially and logistically constrained... I'd be up for some SNES
  20. Like nekdut said, a bit soft on Saturday and a bit tiring, would dig boots in if pushed too hard, but I still had fun. Sunday had all the refugees from Mammoth, parking lots full by 9 and a 2 hour trip to make it to the lodge. Ran into Joe in the lot who decided on snowshoeing. Once at the lodge, after 11 now, we decided to eat lunch right then and that was the best decision. Snow was firmer and the crowd on the mountain was no issue, full for June which means about a 3 minute line at J7, Gunsmoke empty and held groom. Rode the Volkl gs and it worked really well for me, it appears to have less radius on the front than my Coiler so it seemed to cut thru better on turn in but held well when pushed. Monday was epic, nice groom, firm enough but left deep signature trenches. Saw a few carving softies but not other HB's yesterday, Joe made it up but we didnt connect before we quit at 1 with 14 runs in and quads toasted. Back in 2 weeks...
  21. Awesome! Looks like it will be a nice weekend. I will be at June all 3 days, sounding like Mammoth will be zooed. My legs requesting groomers.
  22. I havent been on the board at all both the forum and the Coiler... Going up to June next weekend Sat Jan 15 to Mon 17th. I am getting over a stupid hamstring injury so I have no time on the moto or boarding so I will be without legs... Hopefully we get more snow than rain. Anyone else? Chris
  23. I'm in! Unfortunately I have a quiver of one.
