  1. Tim, you should have braved the line, it would have been shorter than the net difference of driving back to Mammoth plus parking, shuttle etc... That line was bad and that was the most crowded I have seen June by a factor of about 4x!!! That being said, once up, although crowded for June, it was still better than expected. The word of the long line at the base must have gotten out as Sunday and Monday had no issue, Monday we arrived at the parking lot at 8:30 and parked a few cars away from the bottom of the stairs. Lydia, it was great to ride with you and we enjoyed your company, Kim was also inspired by your riding. As far as me giving tips, I think you owe me some as you are clearly a superior rider! As I sat on my butt after chattering out on some small bumps on Matterhorn, I watched you rip it without issue. I'll see if I can post some of my shaky hand video. Kim has really upped her softy carving to the point of overpowering her board, she was matching my turns down Gunsmoke. She was pushing hard then had a hard crash, from her description of what happened and the description from my son, she overloaded the board with too much weight on the front foot on a toe-side, taco-ed the board and she went over the bars. That finished her yesterday but she is uninjured except bruised confidence. Lance, I'm on it for that weekend! I would love to be able to rustle up some gear for Kim and Colson, he is wanting to follow in dad's trenchmarks and has the aptitude to do it :) Best bet for boots for her is to rent some AT boots from Mammoth Mountaineering?
  2. Miltie, thanks for the compliment! I was hitting the limits with the legs as well, 18 runs and they were roasted... You were the one I spoke to briefly on the bottom with the Donek? BTW, HB is my old hometown, Im now in Yorba Linda. Idbaustria: Look for me and my family, Ill be wearing the same as my avatar, blue/white jacket, black helmet, black Coiler, red boots.
  3. Tim, Yes I was concerned for you! When I came down the run I didn't see you on the side. My son Colson said he spoke to you to make sure you were OK and he said you said you were OK but he thought you had your bell rung. You were gone by the time we got back down. Gunsmoke was empty, besides you, me, Colson, and 1 other hardbooter, there was probably only maybe 1 to 3 people on the entire run at one time. WTH We will be back up for the 13th, 14th, and 15th, we are only planning on doing June. See you then. Chris
  4. Idbaustria, Ill be in June on those dates.
  5. Henry, there is the ride board here -> http://forums.bomberonline.com/index.php?/forum/13-southern-california-ca/ btw, I'm back to June Feb 13,14, 15.
  6. 19-20 is probably the only weekend I am for sure not able to make.
  7. Ahh yes, I was riding chairs with Terry, cool guy, cool helmet.
  8. So who was in Mammoth carving that may have been the culprit carving arcs? I was in June hootin from the lifts :)
  9. I was in Mammoth/June last weekend and was returning rentals at Kittridge in Mammoth for my son and waiting for my friends to make a purchase. While waiting, I overheard who I think is the owner/manager saying "That would have been an alpine board, longer and narrower and ridden with hard boots, its old school, almost nobody does it now". I heard the guy this "manager" was talking too explaining how he saw some guys carving beautiful arcs and he was interested in renting gear. I just *had* to interrupt... I said "Hey dont try to talk him out of carving!" I said it was definitely not old school and that new equipment *is* available but rentals in SoCal is not likely. I did direct him to this site and mentioned what a great group of people that the community is. I left a little pissed that this guy was such a detractor telling this guy that carving basically doesn't exist anymore. What a putz.
  10. Had a good time! I managed to convince some of my crew to hit June as opposed to Mammoth and Slopestar got the other half. I met Carvephophun and turned in a few on Gunsmoke. Good times and nice to meet you!
  11. Ill see what I can do about rallying the troops to June for Saturday. My clan will be driving direct from SoCal Sat AM, maybe we go direct to June.
  12. Another epic day on June. 8 days total this season, the pass is now paid for! Kim was working hard on nailing carves with her softie set-up and doing well, getting some linked. We were running laps on Gunsmoke having a blast. Started snowing pretty hard when we left and some inches were accumulating. Hurry up Lance, we are having a blast!
  13. Cool, we have clothes for Wayne. 30th for sure!
  14. Booked a spot in June Lake for the crowded week between Christmas and New years, 12-26 thru 12-31, likely doing Mammoth on the 26th the rest will be weighted toward June. Slopestar? Breese?
  15. Your call? Set #1 is the same as I am using now.
  16. My boys are heading up and staying at MM inn for skiing on 12-22 and 23 then the whole family up probably staying in June for 26-31. Thanks Lance, I am liking that board as the do everything board for me, I was missing my soft set up as the powder turned to skied up/ powder bumps but I managed going solo HB for six days. I started executing some of your tips late Friday and Saturday and I was able to hold heel side edge much harder. Thanks!
  17. Thinking of June for the week following Christmas.
  18. Had a good time! Great way to start the season with six days in already. Cool to meet you Acoustic, glad you introduced yourself. Slopestar, sorry we missed you yesterday, crowds were stupid and with us packing to leave we didn't depart the condo until 9:00, first chair up at 10:40, ugh.... Ps. I have some clothing/ jacket for your boy, Wayne?
  19. Look for me Sat if you stay that long.
  20. Stump 9am Saturday. I am driving up Sat am. Blue n white jacket as in my avatar, black helmet, blue n white Coiler. Trying to see if that breese character is coming up...
  21. Me my 2 kids and a friend are in. Anyone else?
  22. My softie set up is something like 30ish back 40ish front, but I'm weird. My first intro to snowboarding was riding complete slush on the set-up that was handed to me, I dont recall the angles but it was certainly not duck. My 2nd day was on firm ice wearing hard boots, Mammoth actually had about 40/60 ratio of HB/SB in the rental pool. On the rental HB set up I kept rotating the bindings to be more forward facing, it just seemed to work better but then again I came from a skiing background and more forward just seemed more correct. BUT with limited exposure and availability of HB's is seasons following, I ended up purchasing a SB set up after learning that my Lange ZR race ski boots made horrible snowboard boots. That set up ended up getting rotated to the high angles (for softies) that I currently ride. BTW, I am now riding pretty much full time HB's with the help and encouragement of a couple local riders from the Bomber boards :) On the beginner front, I had a friend bring up someone that has never boarded and I set him up something like +3 +10 after determining which was his forward foot. He did OK considering it's tougher to learn when you are old vs being a kid. The next day the shop "strongly suggested" pretty much forced him to duck stance, while he did slightly better falling leaf, he no longer knew what his dominant direction was going to be and wouldnt commit to any one direction. I think it held him back.
  23. twisting my own arm. Mammoth/June 4-5???
