  1. Sorry, I hate to do this... I have searched on here regarding bindings for softboot carving and it seems what info I get back on recommended bindings, I cant seem to find those specific bindings. What I am looking for is a binding that works for carving for both my wife and myself (not sharing), but first my wife. My wife is an athletic rider that can carve both toes and heels and is getting much better at linking carved turns. She has been wanting to demo boards but I thought she should get bindings sorted out first. She like me comes from a background of skiing and like a positive but not rock stiff interface. What bindings are BX riders using? Do Flows provide enough support? and is the cable too stiff on the highback? Keep in mind I am a cheap bastard so I would not be opposed to look for back year/ ebay new or used etc.
  2. Well all the crap ass cheapo motels are booked in Mammoth this weekend and I am not paying over 200 bux a night, I am solo. But I did book a room in LeeVining so I am in. BTW I got out for a few photos around Mono south tufa last weekend, see here http://www.flickr.com/photos/2_stroke
  3. I will be up there the weekend of 3/16. I wont be up there the weekend of 3/9. Tried for both weekends but cant get the cabin 3/9
  4. Theo, nice hardware, hope recovery keeps going well.
  5. Bindings arrived yesterday, came with 3x and 4x. mounted and carpet tuned. I am thinking the boots I have wont last me long but a good starting point. Thinking of doing the dark thirty ride up on Sat and arrive at Stump by 8:30 ish
  6. Thinking about coming up for a quick turn around motel-6 trip.
  7. any solid dates yet? I will have a couple March trips planned and at this point the dates are a bit in the air. I could give up a run or two to shoot stills from on the run as well. Theo the lenses from work any longer than 200 or 300? I use an old 210mm f/4 on my Sony does OK for action.
  8. Snow was nice, the idiot factor was really high, lines not too bad time wise but Mammoths uphill capacity exceeds its downhill capacity. The runs were zooed, I skidded /slarved Saturday as I was not comfortable putting down big turns in the crowds. Got a few turns in with breesej Sunday, cool guy, it was fun but stump was developing a line so we move on. Surprisingly we found some nice corduroy over on 12. Theo, bummed I missed you, I will have to eat those cookies. LOL
  9. Im there. Ill shoot you a message when I hit the mountain. Me, big group sat, smaller sun, smaller still on mon. see you up there. Ill be dressed the same as my avatar. Silver helmet, silver hair Chris
  10. Slopestar, are you Mammoth bound our Pig Bear? Ill be Mammoth Sat, Sun, Mon
  11. Hmmmm, where would I find some EPS sheets? Funny, I had a thought of using Raichle/ Deeluxe boot tounges riveted onto binding straps, but thought it would need to be a Flow type to be able to get into it. Ill find out soon enough how the ancient Rosignol boots I picked up work. LOL
  12. Any other hillbilly engineer their boots like me? I have heavily fortified my softies with plastic from home depot buckets. I can get 10-12 days before they break, another $2.38 and Im on my way. Boots are Deeluxe ID with a fabbed shell between liner and outer boot, Wish I could find the TPS stiffeners but been unsuccessful in the states, even contacted deeluxe direct without luck. I am a hillbilly but it functions fairly well.
  13. Theo, very bummed to hear about the leg. Ill be up over presidents weekend, let me know if you want any comfort or need items from the southland. Chris
  14. As a softie carver, I dont get comments in the line but get occasional comments on the runs; From Thunderboud lift as I carve the groomed *between* all the jumps in Unbound Main: "Hey, you cant do that in here!" Me: "Then stop skidding the runs" From the tech in repair shop replacing screws in my crap bindings: "Dude, you need new binders. It's like driving a VW in a Porsche race" Me: "But I'm winning the race" :)
  15. Hey Theo it's Chris, I met you on the mountain yesterday. I haven't been on this board in a few years and was never really active, I mainly came looking for equipment, which I obviously never got... I was reading the "heard it in the lift line" thread and saw your High school coach comment and the link to this thread. Small world and very cool you are living the dream. I have looked for equipment in the past but obviously never acquired any. The entry fee of boots, board, bindings hasnt made the list, that is after keeping growing kids in boots, skis, clothes, passes, motorcycles, etc... If someone comes across some boots 26.5, drop me a note. It would be great to get some turns in, we usually get about 20 to 30 days in at Mammoth not usually mid week but often an extended weekend. I have too many hobbies competing for dollars and need to sell some goods to support the habits. Anyone looking for a well set up yz250 or starter kids bikes :)... Talk soon, Chris
  16. I thought you were joking about gay ski week! But it is true. well not that there is anything wrong with that... I may avoid
  17. Unless Saturday is a complete blow out, I am locked into Mammoth with the group Im with. I am planning on June for Sunday. John, Ill give you a holler today from 714...
  18. OK, leaving tomorrow. Riding Mammoth Sat ( I hope not too windy) Mammoth or June on Sun?
  19. I go to Mammoth a lot. I havent been to June since I raced slalom in the mid 80's, it was the lack of steeps that kept me from returning. BUT now that I board and am very happy making turns on the blue groomers I have been wanting to get back to June, I just havent been successful at getting the family to give it a go. My kids are spoiled by the detachable chairs with foot rests and cushy seats, I keep reminding them "back in the day..." Ill be up for Sat and Sun this weekend, friends are renting snow machines for Sun maybe we will head over for Sunday.
  20. can the angle of the high backs be adjusted on the flows? How stiff are these as SB bindings go?
