  1. BTW, Saturday was really nice, didnt ride sunday, the wind was blowing huge and I couldnt get my truck out of the steep driveway with black ice:mad:.
  2. I cant remember the last time Ive been to summit, my family has season passes at Mammoth so that is our "local", just 5.5 hours away...
  3. Ill check out the wave this weekend. Id sure like to get back in some hard boots, but Id want to see how they ride all mountain conditions, not just corduroy.
  4. Are there any shops that rent or demo alpine gear in SoCal or Mammoth/june? Once upon a time, mammoth had hard boots as an option to rental for snowboard boots, if I remember correct they were white, light green and maybe one other color...
  5. Maybe next time. Im going home after riding Sunday. Ill be back 3-18,19,20 Let us know how the demoing goes.
  6. Ill be there then. Just an old slow softie tho. Stay at a house on canyon loop. My avatar pic is my usual garb.
  7. Big Dump! I didnt spend much time in the pow, but I got some in as well as early turns on the corduroy on stump. We didnt make it to June as I didnt want to do the drive all the way in chains. Ill be back in 2 weeks.
  8. Im leaving tonight. Doing Mammoth on Fri 18th, June on Sat, Mammoth on Sun. NE1 want to take a run or 2? Me = softboot carver, gray helmet, black gray w/orange jacket, black pants
  9. Mmmmm mmmm Mammoth was sweet on Friday. Amazing how much snow is there. Ill be back over Memorial Day.
  10. Going up tonight, boarding Friday, Sat, & Sun. Me, still on softies, on Stump and Broadway with wife and kids... Hey, where in HB are you? I grew up @ Springdale and Heil.
  11. Hmm. wondering how they would fit my 26.5? I might be convinced but the price would need to get better. This is I think a similar boot to ones that I rented back in 90 something...
  12. I ride goofy, fight southpaw, and kick with my right, but I can kick *a lot* harder from regular stance. My son is really wacky. Ever since he could stand, he has been swinging a hockey stick, and he does that lefty, but can only swing a bat righty. He rides a skateboard regular, but rides a "razor" goofy. Does his "heely's" goofy but snowboards regular. He kicks right and is right handed.
  13. Looks like Ill be the only one in Mammoth this weekend... Unfortunately, Ill only be on the mountain Sat and Sun. Looks like spring conditions.
  14. Anyone? Ill be up with the family riding at least Sat and Sun maybe Fri. Im often on Stump, Broadway, or on 3 saddle. If you dont mind doing a couple with an old softie, give me a shout out if you see me. Im usually in my grey with orange stripe enduro jacket unless warm then a green sweater, Blue with orange graphic Burton Balance, silver/grey Redd helmet, wife in pink jacket and helmet, aka "cotton candy". Just shout out "HEY 2STROKE!" Chris
  15. Any guesses on what my 1999 burton balance 160.5 radius would be? Something like 9m???
  16. Thanks for the input, depending on condition I may go this route. Skid, whats that? :D Looking to the future, what are decent all mountain boards that will allow me to cut up crud, bumps and steeps that will still make a reasonable carve on the blue corduroy in hardboots?
  17. How would this board be for a relative newb, factory prime 164 (pink deck:rolleyes:) I can carve the softies on my balance 160, and have ridden hard boots long ago as well as my Lange Zr9's (way too stiff for the board). 5'10, ~160 lbs size 9 foot. Opinions welcome regarding snow condition required (hero groom only etc)
  18. Longshot... If others fall thru, Ill will call at Canyon Lake.
  19. The AT's look interesting, at least from the standpoint of buying used, there seems to be something available in AT's where SB-HB's are rare on the used market. Is the longer sole of the AT boots an issue? They are similar in length to a ski boot? Looking for cheaper alternatives to getting an alpine set up.
  20. For me its like this. My skiis are old school, K2 El-caminos 198. Id like to try some new slalom or GS skis, I have hated every rec "shaped" ski I have tried. In the past several years I have spent more time on the board and explain the switch like this. Im now almost 47, while I am in great shape for a 47yo, I dont have the strength I did in my late 20's. Sooooo.... every time I get on skis, I feel a little bit worse where on the board, Im still learning and get a little bit better with each trip. I did dawn the skis when teaching my youngsters, but they are fast on blue cruisers so I can enjoy myself with them carving that instead of wearing the skis and longing for some chutes where Id prolly end up hurting myself now anyway.
  21. No. I was there the zoo crowded week after x-mas and did 5 days last weekend. We are often on Broadway and Stump with the kids. BTW my wife is easier to spot, aka Cotton Candy. She is doing pretty good now that her ski boots have broke and she has to ride more. <a href=" " title="IMG_0752ps by 2_stroke, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4035/4369594744_d3f648e2c9.jpg" width="500" height="357" alt="IMG_0752ps" /></a> Here is my boy on his second day. Cant say for sure yet but if I had to guess, he'll be a baggy pants park maniac before laying trenches... <a href=" " title="DSC04605 by 2_stroke, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2774/4364834436_0b4f7905e4.jpg" width="500" height="334" alt="DSC04605" /></a>
  22. I think for financial reasons I will stay on the softies at least this season then possibly shop for a board that could possibly go both ways, Donek razor? The 2nd day I boarded I used hard boots, it was a rental option at mammoth back in the day and really preferred the hard boot set up over the softies rented. Thinking back, Im not sure why I ended up with a soft set up, I think it was because I couldnt find any hardboots or anyone that knew squat about them in mammoth and certainly not SoCal. I should post pics of my hillbilly set up (you'll see I have no shame) but hey its working for now. edit: btw, 2stroke is from my bike preference, d37 enduro. edit again: for info if it matters, Im 5-10, 155 size 9 foot.
