  1. Well holy heck, would you look at that. To my middle-aged eyes, they look a lot like three strap bindings! Next thing, we'll see the return of one-piece dayglo suits
  2. I enjoy browsing the listings for alpine boards online and some Japanese sellers offer up with interesting 'blasts from the past'. One day I'll get a life, but that day is not today. Anyway, came across a Wild Duck Knifer and thought I'd share. The photos are poor and it might be nice to know the length but $15 shipping can't be beat! https://www.ebay.ca/itm/155838157244?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=g1xUBUBdRrC&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=5uF7NZ3rRt6&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  3. I don't think this one has been added. The shouting/cheering at around 1:38 makes me smile every time. What a blast!
  4. Wishing you a speedy recovery @Jack M. I encountered a similar shoulder injury this year, but specialist still advised against surgery for me at this point. There are two main challenges in my return to 'proper' carving. First is physical: My shoulder is damaged and vulnerable so I need to avoid touching the snow. Old habits die hard, but there are a bunch of tips on the forum in this regard (keeping hands 'palm up' while riding, holding a short cord between hands etc.). Wearing a brace would also probably help. Second is mental aspect: dislocation hurts so f'in much! I now have a significant psychological hurdle to properly commit to heelside carves particularly when conditions are challenging. And yet, without such commitment, my form suffers, my heelside turns stink, and re-injury is even more likely. It is an unpleasant irony to say the least. To keep myself out of harms way, I only rode softboots after my injury in Feb 2023 but will be back to carving this coming winter. I plan to start with the gentle slopes to build confidence and practice hand positioning etc. Anyway, a long winded way of saying good luck and hope things sort themselves out quickly!
  5. I don't think this one has been added yet. One of my favourites...just looks like so much fun.
  6. Yes, bastardizing Crocodile Dundee with the title reference! Perusing the Japanese alpine listings on ebay, I stumbled onto this. Anyway, those "edges" gave me a chuckle... https://www.ebay.ca/itm/155587403680?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=g1xUBUBdRrC&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=5uF7NZ3rRt6&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  7. HA! If I only ever did toe side turns, I'd probably be just fine... Heelside shmeel side.
  8. I dislocated my left shoulder mountain biking in 1995. After completing rehab, I never gave it another thought, and had no hint of any issues on the board or any falls etc. Flash forward to Feb 2022, and I'm at the MCC. Third day in, and I'm clearly not as fit, light, strong, flexible, or talented as I remember. But whatever. Except I got behind on a heelside carve, put my left hand down and dislocated my shoulder again. The staff at the hospital were lovely, but what an ordeal! I completed hundreds of hours of rehab. Lost 30lbs, improved my flexibility, strength, and cardio. The shoulder specialist I saw recommended against bracing as, to use his words, they provide a false sense of security, limit motion, and reduce enjoyment. My shoulders go commando, I guess?! Flash forward AGAIN...this time to Feb 2023. By this point, I had 10 days on the snow in the season, and was feeling great. My improved fitness made things so fun. I'd eased myself in and I thought I was out of the woods (please notice foreshadowing). Second run, first day at MCC. Snow was fast, firm, and fun. Briefest touch with left hand on heelside carve, and out goes the shoulder. I don't even remember the touch. It was unbelievable. But I laid facedown, drew left arm across my chest, pushed against snow, and got it back in, so that was lovely (aside from the mollusk-ish sound). But I haven't been on a carving board again since...just messing around w softboots. I'm in the queue to see specialist again, and expect surgery is in my future. I'm not quite back to full strength with it, but it feels pretty good and PT is pleased with state of affairs. So I'm going to try carving again in the coming weeks. I very much appreciate the hand positioning tips above, and may construct one of the harnesses as well. I'm thinking of holding a bungee cord between my hands to keep my errant left hand in front of me. Anyway, thanks for the pointers, and happy to hear any other suggestions!
  9. At Mount Washington Friday March 10, I spotted a unicorn...someone riding hardboots/carving board. Never did catch up with them, so posting here hoping to connect!
  10. I've used both a physiotherapist and a personal trainer to create programs to increase my strength and flexibility. I'd previously met with physios when I was hurt, and it was fun to go 'between injuries' and ask for help to stay that way. If you have access to any of those professionals, it is a great place to get a personalized plan that'll work for you. For the record, the most benefit I realized was through a stretching and improving my flexibility. Now I'm lighter, stronger, and more flexy-bendy...if only I could keep my left shoulder in its socket I'd be flying.
  11. I joined the mcc in 2022 for the first time. It's a solid 12-13 hours travel time for me, and I really did wonder what the heck I was getting myself into as I hurtled across eastern Washington in the middle of the night. And unfortunately I only was able to stay for half of the event due to an injury, BUT I found it to be the most welcoming bunch of people. No doubt there are a couple jerks here and there, but I had just the best time: great riding, helpful clinics, and lovely people. Even the staff at the hospital were super friendly, though I'd prefer not to cross paths with them this time round! So to sum up my over long post... @Corey's advice is exactly right.
  12. Hey lower mainland carvers! My GF and I are headed to Whistler/Blackcomb for the first time in 100 years next week to do some carving...I barely remember the place and I've never ridden a carving board there. I've had a look at some recommendations on previous forum posts but some lifts appear to have been replaced over the years so it is a bit tricky to sort out. I've made an initial brief list to help us get the most out of our time and I'm hoping some might have suggestions, confirmation, or thoughts on the lifts below: Blackcomb: Jersey Cream Crystal Ridge Whistler Harmony Emerald Any advice is welcome...thanks!
  13. I can't say enough about the benefits of increased flexibility. Helped my lower back, hips, knees, you name it.
  14. I had the opposite experience. As a Regular foot rider, this meant my right knee was typically quite angry and painful. At one point I recall a consultation with a knee specialist regarding this knee. He made the simple and asinine suggestion to just switch it up and ride Goofy. WTF In the end, the biggest improvement I found was not through arthroscopic surgery (no real benefit to me), but strengthening leg muscles, lots of time with a firm foam roller, tons of stretching, and OTC anti-inflammatories (as needed). I've lost weight in the last year and this seems to have helped too. I still have middle-aged knees but at least I can ride without pain...for now!
  15. This is sorta music related, so will share it here. I love watching carving videos on youtube, but I don't want to watch so many ads, and I refuse to pay for youtube premium. Also, the music accompanying these great carving videos often leaves something to be desired. The following will work for those who have Samsung phones (sorry Apple fans) Download Firefox, and get the add-ons Privacy Badger and uBlock Origin. With these in place, I'm able to watch youtube on Firefox ad free. Then, download Samsung's Sound Assistant app. It allows individual control of app volumes. Basically, this allows me to select the audio I want. So I watch youtube on Firefox, mute Firefox on the Sound Assistant app, and listen to Spotify. It is less complicated then it might seem at first glance, works great, and makes the time at the gym fly by!
  16. Hi there, I have purple-ish 162 ultra prime. I believe its a 1998 model and it's in great condition. Not sure what it's worth but I can send photos if you're interested and we can go from there? Let me know!
  17. Thanks for all the comments and input. I really appreciate it and will get the 325s punched!
  18. The liners that came w the 325 boots were the non-thermofit version. So they're complete garbage. It is hard to believe anyone could use them. Instead I'm going w intuition pro wrap (or power wrap?) this year. They might be more stiff then needed, so I'm probably not done messing around. And just to confirm what might be obvious...you had the 425s punched w/o issue? The shop I visited in whistler said I could expect very little expansion in the 325s.
  19. I bought a new pair of Deeluxe 325 boots and took them to a boot fitter to have them punched (my foot is shaped like a fly swatter). The technician advised that the plastic on the 325s was resistant to stretching and likely wouldn't move much. He recommended punching my older (but still good) Head Stratos Pros instead as they would stretch significantly more. I took the advice, had the Heads punched, and may just sell the 325s. Before I put them on the market, I'm curious if anyone has encountered issues punching 325s? Thanks in advance!
  20. I truly love the description of this board...just so hardcore and funny. I admire anyone bold/adventurous/crazy enough to take it out. Thanks for the laugh, and best of luck with the sale!
  21. @Ladia Your message really resonated with me and the frustration you expressed hits home. I had the luxury of going to the MCC this year which was pretty much a dream come true. Dislocated my shoulder on the third day and that was my season. It is so demoralizing. Working really hard with every medical professional under the sun to get it strong again, but this getting old business is for the birds. I wish you all the best. Keep on keeping on. The alternatives are worse!
  22. It is indeed an Amp. I remember them being the lesser version of the Alp.
  23. I tried this board at MCC and loved it. Would you ship to Canada? DM sent
