  1. That might be a bit to soon for me. Unfortunately mid-April would probably be best, but that’s close to Easter
  2. Welcome to SoCal CianoTico! Even though MT High (West) is the weakest of all SoCal resorts, I have to admit that I always seem to have a great time there! Haven’t riden the East in 20+ years, but like Acoustic Carver said it has a great carving run. Would love to meet up with the both of ya and attack something! Mt High, Summit, Bear whatever!
  3. What are using to film this??
  4. Love this thread!! Here is some options and observations from someone who is coming off of a 20 year hiatus for snowboarding. My last season on the snow was 98-99. At that time I was in SoCal and riding one to two days a week on average. I would run into two to three HB carvers a season. Also during that time the large board manufacturers (Burton, Sims) were still building race, carving boards. Us HBs at that time were still a group of lone wolfs looking to join a pack. When we did see someone we would meet up and ride together. Then the conversations in the lift lines would really start....! “What kind of boards are those, and yada yada. The same questions we all still get today! My point is, we were a small group of very specialized snowboarders then and that doesn’t seem to have changed over the last 20 years. Where I have seen a major change is, in the organization of groups via the internet. Of course the web was in its infancy and nothing like today, but this now allows us to meet up and get bodies on the mountain and be seen by more people. It allows us to also organize events, demos, clinics etc. It’s a powerful tool. How else could we have rented Turner Mountain for the Montucky Clear Cut! As much as I hate social media it is very effective at reaching out to new people and bringing them in. I should know; without it I would have missed MCC. I was toying with the idea about getting back into carving again and started to search for pages and groups for carvers. This lit the pilot, and then once I saw an add from Dave Redman on Alpine Snowboard Trader about MCC (it also led me here to this forum) the fire to get back into carving was now out of control!! I’m back in, and thankful for places like Alpine Snowboarder and the many pages on FB that helped relight that fire that I was missing. The other major change is boards and manufacturers. The major brands that everyone knows are no longer making HB race-carving boards. They are all small custom board manufacturers that will hand build a board to you and your riding style. I find this absolutely amazing!! I’ve always wanted a custom board! Now I can meet and converse with the person who will be the actual person building my board. That’s insane to me!! In a sense my own personal Pro Model for not much more than a top of line board from any modern mass production board Co. Not only will I be buying new carving boards I’ll also be buying a new all mountain SB board from one of these custom companies to help support them. Supporting these custom board companies is crucial to our sport. By seeing some of your quivers I’m assuming they are doing well. Us carvers have always been a small group and will probably (and hopefully) alway be one. We are only cool in our own minds and I’m ok with that!! One last thought....when snowboarding was in its infancy, we were all friends. I remember going to a new mountain and finding the locals and riding with them. There were no egos and we all fed off each other and had a great time and left having made new friends. When snowboarding became to cool for itself, and this mentality was no longer the norm among snowboarders, this vibe and sense of family stayed in the carving community. I’m so happy to see that same mentality still exists today! P.S. I have 3 young kids that will hopefully be on HB in the coming years!!
  5. Holy hell....If that’s the 185, I can’t believe your rockin it in that narrow or a run. I’m impressed by both you and Mark Miller!! Damn!! Can’t wait to get on one
  6. Kick Ass!! Nice to see a website! Thanks for posting a schedule, and what about the MCC logo on swag?? Is Coiler going to have boards for demo??
  7. Crappy photo of the best heel side turn of my life! Bending it in 1996 at Sierra at Tahoe.
  8. Which I could!! Happy groomers!
  9. I like your style Dred!! I had a pro tune once back in 2008??? I have to admit I saw the base after a stone grind and was blown away.... I spent years hand planing my base’s at home and realized I had been wasting my time. It was gorgeous. I figured the snow could be all over the spectrum, thanks for the wax advice. Will do!! gettin so excited for this. Glad to hear it’s shaping up. Looks like they are getting good snow right now!!!
  10. What are the typical snow conditions at Turner in February? I’m pulling out the vintage boards I’ll be riding and they need a base grind. I imagine it’s a dry snow, that would require a fine structure is that correct?? I’m I’m SoCal so not sure if I can find a shop that can do fine structure. If not is it better to run no structure? Or a medium course for Montucky snow? Oh yeah, I’m gonna order wax. What would be a safe bet for snow temp?
  11. Ahhh! That’s why the AM sounded so good!! Missed the point that that board is HB based. I’m not seeing any pictures on the Coiler website of the board design....so I missed that!
  12. How does the BXFR actually compare to the VSR AM in the real world?
  13. On that note........ if anyone in this thread is going to MCC and wants to bring any of the above mentioned boards for me to demo that would be very cool..... wink wink, nudge nudge!!
  14. Thanks everyone for the input on this thread. Been out of the game for a long time and I’m also looking for a new all-Mtn SB board. I’ll look into the many above suggestions. Thank you! I want something that can lay out carves, float well in pow and also just cruise chopped up runs with the kids. I have a friend who is super cool and is letting me take his Donek Incline to Montucky Clear Cut to demo it!!
  15. Does anybody have an update on StickDocs? Looking for a stone grind and possibly a tune if they are good!
  16. How was Summit? Was there enough runs open to get a full morning in on hardboots? Looking to get out tomorrow but not sure where to go. Thinking Mtn High just for convienence, but want the variety of big bear /summit but want to make sure it’s worth the 6 hrs in the car.
  17. I’m heading up to SS tomorrow. Plan on being there at 7:30 and being in line by 8:00.
  18. Just noticed that your from Santa Clarita! I’m just up the hill in Frazier Park. Glad you booked MCC. I just bought air fare for LAX to Spokane for $310 on Alaska Air. Also gonna rent a mini van in WA. If it works out and are interested you can hitch a ride with us.
  19. Love June for that reason!! Been there several times and still found corduroy in the afternoon!
  20. I’m also looking for size 32 mondo. My bother in law is joining me for the Montucky Clear Cut and wants to try carving while there. I hope to find him some hard boots, but have my doubts.
  21. I’ve got a few friends that I’m pressuring to sign up, but they can’t commit this early. Hopefully they will by the end of the year. If there’s still spots available.
