  1. Don't own the UP 69 any more but as I have improved I'd like to try it again to compare it to my Coilers.
  2. 60 days at Crystal last season and this, so far, and never had fog nor any other hardbooters. Conditions have been rather awesome.
  3. Lift wedges for the toe are also easy to make out of wood, HMWP or nearly anything else. I was going to order a couple of sets of the F2 wedges but decided to make my own so I could get just the degrees I wanted. F2s are very easy to work with if you're a DIYer. I am going to try a Catek on the front and Intec Titanflex F2 on the rear to give me an extra set of bindings for my quiver.
  4. Minor F2 cant adjustments are simple by placing washers of any desired thickness wher the cant shims go.
  5. Since I NEVER see another hardbooter when I ride at home, Crystal Mt, WA, I'm curious how many of you also do it by yourself except when you attend a trenchin' convention?
  6. A very general question. What characteristics, performance, feel, physical size, stiffness, etc., differentiate modern freecarve boards, specifically Doneks and Coilers, from older boards such as the Burton UP 69? I understand the UP is pretty much a race board but I am interested in how it would ride and perform compared to Donek and Coiler freecarve boards.
  7. I've just determined that no hole drilling is required you just have to file the slots in the F2 plate a little wider and four screws fit right in. This doesn't appear to damage the plate for standard 4 x 4 mounting. I think I'll file the top few threads off of the black F2 machine screws so I won't have to file quite as much on the sides of the slots in the F2 mounting plates.
  8. I have enough pre-preg on hand. Do you think something less thick than 1/4" would suffice if pure carbon?
  9. Thanks for all of the great comments. I can fabricate a carbon plate using pre-preg carbon fabric ( enough layers to make it about 1/4" thick I guess) , clamping it between two aluminum plates, and cooking it in my gas barbecue at about 300* F for four hours or, it seems like starting with a good, flat, longboard, skateboard deck would also work. I'll probably never actually get around to it but I like mucking up my limited mental capacity dreaming about DIY projects.
  10. I find it so much easier to control my speed and feel the Gs when the run has a bit of a bowl shape, i.e. concave, side to side, than when the sides fall off, i.e. convex.
  11. Any ideas on how one would go about making a DIY plate, i.e. material, important factors, etc? Have any of you tried it...was(is) it worth the effort?
  12. I guess I could modify a pair of F2 center discs but was wondering if F2 makes them. I'll check with Yyzcanuck too.
  13. This is my 24th day this season at Crystal and conditions are perfect...only had one not so good day and that was last Friday...and it wasn't all that bad either...Just a little wet towards the end. Now why am I not better?
  14. Am I correct in stating what I think is the obvious that the zero skid turn is a product of how the edge is pressured throughout the turn...plus a few other factors?
  15. Is there any reason/advantage to riding 60/55 if you have no toe or heel out at 55/50?
  16. Keenan or PO6781, Any chance you'll be at Crystal, or any other local area, this coming Friday or any Tuesday or Friday coming up? Bob, 253-686-0839
  17. Whistler, February 21 - 23, any chance of making a run with another hardbooter?
  18. PO6781: Your pics pretty much showed what I experienced last Tuesday. I skipped yesterday, Monday Jan. 29, and was glad I did. Today, Tuesday, was probably the best day I've ever seen at Crystal, i.e. 12" of 25* snow covering the entire area. No grooming so no progress on carving but I had a ball on my hard boots and 162 Axxess so long as I stayed in the slightly chopped-up pow. I ventured into the untracked 12" stuff several times but had such a hard time getting up when I fell that I went back to the partially carved up to finally burn my quads out before driving home about noon. Even though I'm totally devoted to get my carve down on groomers I think I will at least bring my skis along for future trips in case I get more conditions like today. Dropping into Powder Bowl, and running the gondola top to bottom, i.e. Ice Berg Gulch and whatever is above and below it would have been heavenly for me today on skis. Since I never really learned to snowboard, i.e. one morning on Discovery and the afternoon on Forest Queen in rented softies then bought carving gear I have a hard time in pow. I did go heli-boarding/skiing in the North Cascades once and used my SX91 skiboots on a 159 extremley wide board and did ok though.
  19. On Maui now. Next time at Crystal will be Tuesday January 30th. Would love to meet up with you almost any Tuesday or Friday. Let me know.
  20. I go to Crystal Tuesdays and Fridays and I would like to find someone who can lay out non-skid, high angle, board bending, linked up, speed controlling carves so I can try to learn from them. It's tough just doing it all by ones self and you're never really sure where you fall on the spectrum.
  21. How do yo feel about the flex and cushioning of F2 Titanflex as compared to TD Sidewinders?
  22. FWIW, F2 Intec heels are easily adapted to Cateks.
  23. I'd like to buy the canting device made of two discs and a metal mounting piece. I think it is called a Unicant and was sold by Burton.
