  1. I’ve decided to stay local tomorrow so count me out for Sunday. Please send an update on conditions if you go.
  2. I have to work on Monday. Thinking about coming out Sunday.
  3. http://alpinecarving.com/term.html http://alpinecarving.com/ is an encyclopedia of alpine snowboarding and carving.
  4. See below for photos of my boots after taping up the opening underneath the tongue. Even though I only had issues with my front boot, I taped up both. The tape is just about a year old at this point and has 26 days on them and holding up well. This photo shows the "hole" on my front boot where the cuff, boot, and tongue meet. This is where I suspect most of the snow was getting in: I taped over the opening. I had to stretch the tape after applying multiple layers. At first, it was not easy to get the liners back in or my foot. The tape eventually stretched and now I can remove and insert the liners with ease.
  5. Me too for Sunday! It's supposed to be warm and sunny. Let's go!
  6. I was there on Sunday and it was very good carving conditions. Big Chief, War Dance, and Exhibition were all excellent. Snow was packed firm and the groom was spot on. It was cold and windy. I stayed away from Competition due to SL event most of the day. The Wilderness Quad was finally spinning and the West Lodge was open and serving hot food. The new trails didn't have much coverage so I stayed away. Hemlock wasn't open yet, but they were blowing tons of snow on it. I expect with the snow coming tomorrow, this weekend they should be nearly 100% open. I'm thinking about going back Sunday or Saturday. Undecided which day.
  7. I'll post some pics this weekend when I'm back in NH where my gear is.
  8. For AM on a Donek Axxess 162: 55/48.
  9. Reporting back on this since following @Beckmann AG's great advice: The Nashua 557 tape did the trick! It's flexible enough that I was still able to get in and out of the boots with the tape around the opening underneath the tongue. The first couple of times it was tight getting in and out of the boots, but after that, the tape stretched and I had no problems. This past weekend as temps went below zero in NH, I really appreciated having warm dry feet! Thanks, Beckmann!
  10. It would appear that changes to the front binding angle could affect where the center of mass is over the board, nose to tail. For example, as the front binding angle decreases the front heel moves slightly forward towards the nose of the board. Could this affect the ideal location (setback) of where the front binding is mounted? Recently, I experimented with lowering my front binding angle from 54 to 51 degrees after noticing that at 54 degrees the toes of my front foot are well inside the edge of the board. At 51 degrees both the heel and toe of my front foot are at the edges of the board. (For reference, I wear size 25 boots. Board is Pure Boarding Two: 158 cm length by 22.6 cm waist.) With this change, I discovered the following, which I did not like: the board had a tendency to want to turn towards toe-side while skating one foot heel-side turns on the flats required more effort to get the board to turn The characteristics above made me think about moving the front binding back towards the tail slightly (I'm currently 1 cm back from center inserts). Because I didn't want to spend too much time tweaking this weekend (it was crazy cold out!), I simply moved the binding angle back to 54 degrees and confirmed the above issues went away. Next time out, I'm going to experiment with 51 degrees on the angle again and also move the front binding a little further back. Has anyone experienced having to adjust the setback after tweaking the front binding angle? Does this make any sense? Cheers and Happy 2018!
  11. Robin, are you back at Beast? Any idea, what's up with the Wildnerness Quad? It's was down all last season. Will anyone be out Sunday? I'm thinking about it.
  12. That it was. Sorry we didn't get a chance to ride much together yesterday. On a personal positive note, even though conditions were far from hero, I was amazed and very pleased with how well I was holding an edge on the ice. I don't recall ever riding better on similar conditions before. That's two awesome weeks in a row.
  13. If you get our this weekend be sure to post a report. I'll be up at Bretton Woods again. Mitch is in town from Switzerland, and my feiend, Johan is here from Hawaii.
  14. Don't bother for at least another couple of weeks. I'm surprised they opened with such limited terrain. Quite disappointing.
  15. Robin, looks like we both lost the pool. Or maybe we all win! Will anyone be out Saturday for Opening Day? I think I'll be there!
  16. I'm going with Dec 16th. Just seeing all my favorite carvers together again for the start of a new season is all I need to feel like a winner.
  17. Bretton Woods opening day is tomorrow. That's where I'll be this weekend! Can't wait for Beast to open!! Anyone care to start a pool? When do you think Opening Day will be?
  18. Twice in the last two years I've been asked if I had a leash. The last time (last season) was by an instructor or coach who didn't believe I had a leash after I casually nodded and kept moving through the lift line (black leash on black pants). He actually chased after me until I made it clear that my front leg was in fact attached to my front binding by a leash.
  19. Ace, thanks for the heads up. I haven't been to Mt Snow in many years. I may try Wildcat unless Bretton Woods opens by this weekend. We'll see...
  20. I seriously cannot wait. Why does it seem so much worse this season than previous years. Thinking about Mount Snow this weekend. Anyone else?
  21. Have you ever heard of this site? They seem super sketchy to me. No security what-so-ever! No SSL/TLS (i.e., HTTPS) on their web site. Even though they claim in their privacy policy, "128 bit encrypted SSL..." It then goes on to read: Seriously?! Buyer beware. I would seriously suggest staying away from such an online retailer.
  22. Ace, when did you get the new Snow Raider model? I placed an order back in April shortly after finding out about them. I still haven't received them. After sending an email inquiring about delivery, I received this disappointing reply: That's really too bad. I was looking forward to the improvements.
  23. That's not an illusion. All the new Pure Boards have noses shaped like. I'm not sure why. No decamber that I'm aware of. It's pretty old school. I would characterize the flex similar to an all mountain board. It's a fun board and flexes easily. The Black Diamond/Bastard may be better for larger carvers. They come in longer length and are a bit stiffer compared to the Two. Also, if you're looking closely... the Black Diamond and Bastard are identical except for the top sheet graphics.
  24. Looks like some some very nice and needed improvements over the original design. I may bite. I really wish the velcro strap was replaced with a draw string. The velcro becomes useless once it comes in contact with snow.
