  1. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dam, I wish You would have told me this last week , lol:p
  2. Fin , your good to go from what I see, its seams that grandpa Len had tunnel vision on you and only you, and those around you in Len's vision tunnel were much slower than you or completely stationary like the couple sitting in the middle of the trail that you passed, so to grandpa you looked like a missile. What I have noticed as a speed demon is that there is the "boarder patrol" ( pun intended) and you the illegal alien on the long board. They like to be "respected" in other words they like to see me side slide at least a 45 degree slide when approaching them , its kind of like applying a jake brake on a truck , or drogue chute on a race car, lol, they want to "see" something that lets them know your slowing down . To do a slide is like waving at your country neighbors as you pass then on the farm road its just a simple way to acknowledge & respect them . Also I have noticed that even tho I am going 10mph or less in stalled traffic ( NuB's sitting in the middle of the run ) that it is wise to go "way" around them by at least a couple yards no less. The 2nd guy with the erroneous assumptions and mal formed opinons on alpine gear needs to be taken to task, he may be buddies or related to grandpa so he was backing up grandpa out of blind loyalty and willing to virtually lie to take grandpas side. Fin > Nail these guy's, they are bad for business. Keystone needs ambassadors working on the slop not these moron's. Keystone has an ambassador riding the slope > You
  3. Razor brand electric scooter. http://www.razor.com/products/e200s-electric-scooter.php I got a used one of these and now I am "free-eeeeee" free of crutches. I ride it all around the house even into bathroom right up to the porcelain queen for a sit down, lol. I fly around the sopping center f-a-s-t that I manage and all the old folks in their fancy 4 wheel scooters are jealous , It's kind of like alpine vs regular board, lol. It weighs about 50lbs so I can toss it in the back, the drive to CostCo for a 100lb barrel of Glucosamine , lol, and do Moto GP down the isles without anyone giving me crap because I'm am now "disabled" ,lol. Crutches I don't need no stinking crutches.
  4. ( sung to an old Harry Belafonte banana boat tune) > "Please Mr Doctor man tally me my talus, OES come and I wanna snowboard" , He say: in cast 4 week 5 week 6 week more, OES come come and I wanna snowboard. pain oh, its a pain its a pain-eeeooono, OES come and I wanna snoowwwww board, ( thank u thank u very much )
  5. Me too, Im in the same boat with you, my Talus is fractured too:cool:
  6. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- __ ____ : A mid forearm fracture simple or compound is the lesser of two evils over a Coles or other type of wrist fracture . I think your just running of slot machine luck. There is no way to "relax" and do a Judo fall when a 200 + lb bombing slope monkey nails you blind side , or you are charging it hard at freeway speed ice over and slid off into the trees. I respect your right to wear or not wear guards, or nothing but surf trunks and sun glasses but my kid will wear wrist guards based on "my" experience not another guys. Respectfully, If you combine your advanced skills ( which can make a person feel invincible if you let it ) , some luck and you have a prescription for a nice debilitating injury. I've known many guys who have not worn helmets and other protective equipment for years and years they were natural athletes and highly accomplished in their respective sports, then one day "wham" they take a hard one and it's all over. Some people are not atheltic enough to do a parachute roll, they need all the goodies they can wear to protect them, others like me still like to charge hard and have a high degree of athleticism "but" have a lot of former injuries from over doing it , plus age degenerative conditions and now also need to bubble wrap our sorry butts ( and wrists ) to minimize impacts. It seams you have the technique of riding down to a professional high grade science but not practical physiology & the differing consequences of exposing your ortho apendeges exposed to sudden deceleration and blunt force trauma. Ramming your wrist into ice, a tree, another slopers body, your own board lift pole, hard object etc.... at even 5mph to 50 miles mph is gonna break and break it easily. The wrist does not like to articulate more than about 50 degrees rearward deflection, any more and it starts to tear tendon then fracture , there is no supporting muscle mass around its articulation thus it is highly exposed to angulated and compressive bending & blows. Anything semi ridged to mildly flexible that can encase the wrist joint will lessen the chance of severe injury. Wrist guards are not manufactured to make money, and lot of R&D went into them. Any one in a street fight knows exactly what I mean, fromnailing a guy with a jab to the nose or temple to locking up and gong to the ground and putting a hand out to lessen the fall with a guy locked onto you will snap the wrist. Boxers know this the most they have found out a long time ago that simply wrapping the wrist will keep it strong so it does not deflect and injure. Many ice dancers / skaters do not wear them for aesthetic reasons "but" you can ask around or read any ice skaters forum and find a lot of highly accomplished skaters who have healed multiple wrist fractures. Bla bla bla sorry for the rant I am sold on wrist guards from using them in my other colision oriented sports. Again to dis to you I just strongly disagree, :)
  7. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- _ ___ : +1 > I blew out my ACL at Mammoth in the late 80's on downhill skis , jumped on a snowboard the next year and never looked back. WARNING: You can break an ankle in hard alpine board boot's > I just learned that the hard way last week "and" a lot of guys here have broken their ankles too on carving setup's.
  8. Nice to see you alive with an intact intelligence quotient PS: I looked at your avatar photo and did notice that you have a unequal pupillary dialation, a sure sign of impending brain damage, lol :p. But SERIOUSLY>>>> have someone close to you keep an eagle eye on you for any changes in your moods, & physical demeanor,> a slow subarachnoid / subdural hemorrhage can creep up on you and kill you, and an unnoticed C-spine injury can creep up on you a few days later and make you miserable for life so just go easy and monitor yourself, ( anyone for an MRI ) < that was based on my own personal experience.,ANY changes > headache, dizzy, mood change, ringing in the ear and have someone drive you to the ER >>>> NOW
  9. WELCOME to "real" snowboarding :) You are joining a "real" cult. You will go "real" fast. Make "real" sharp turns. Push "real" hard G's. Crash "real" hard. Spend "real" cash on "real" quality equipment. Meet "real" nice classy people. Amass a "real" large quiver of boards. Look "real" cool in the lift line. and finnaly admit that you have a "real" alpine addiciton to , lol :p
  10. __ ____ : As a beginning hard boot'er with only 11 full all day outings under me , ( long time softboot'er) I picked up an old & skinny 185 Oxygen and this is what I noticed, and it it right in line with what the more experienced guy's here are saying. 1) S-P-E-E-D the faster speed was immediately noticeable and I LOVED it. weight neutral-forward or way back it don't matter once it breaks 30mps it don't matter much ,( it does ) but lets say it is highly forgivable as far as front to back balance in the strait away. Indulge me: I could literally imagine taking my bindings off the board, putting stop pads all over the middle top sheet, slipping into to my neopreme wet suit booties and walking up and back on it like a dam surfing long board while charging down a blue groomer, that is how stable it is. ( one day I mite just do that for a kook thrill ) 2) I needed a lot wider trail to work the board, a typical California "short & steep" just don't cut it. when you do a "black & narrow " it turns into a survival experience , no fun, no time to set turns, no learning. 3) Cadillac ride, more board under me to absorb the terrain , plus it is old glass board so its kind of "damp" if that term applies to the smoother ride. 4) Authority in the turn, You have to stay on the gas when you turn, You have to turn with "purpose" or your going to lose the edge and be on your ass every time and then be on top of it when you transition ( Mine likes more push on the front foot with my forward pointing high front boot angle setup ) 5) Hook up, it does not "come alive" unless you are going a bit faster than all my other boards. ( granted my others are all mountain ) under 20 or so without a steep it is just a slider, but when the wind starts buffeting you then its "alive". 6) Lean for your life, I am not in carving slalom shape, my form sucks to , nor an ice hockey player any more so I don't have powerful lowers so I have to lean my whole body into it to keep it curving-carving. I cant just flip it on side like a toy, which is no big deal because I tend to ride it like I surf a long board on a overhead, I "surf" the snow, in fact I am so use to surfing long boards I subconsciously revert to surfing when I get into a steep, lol.:p ( I may never be a pure carve guy, just a snow surfer, I'm ok with that ) 7) Ice = hospital, I'm not saying it does not handle well in ice , it does, but it's heavy & long so when you "loose it" going fast on a 30 degree hockey rink this big stick wants to jam your knees into your teeth, so I learned to respect it I love my old long board and cant wait till I can climb back on, and even a demo a new one or two to feel the difference. I hope this beginner's to hard boot-bindings & long alpine boards perspective helps too.:)
  11. Yes wear them, what ever brand You get. I have noticed its the "slow" caual riding and stopping that can "get you" , even 1mph on ice and break your wrists. I know for sure I have saved my wrists with my modified skater guards under loose fitting sb gloves in both high speed wipe outs wiht the associated long slide and just sliding to a stop and "hook" an edge and "dump" face 1st. It is also wise to learn how to fall, a Judo / JuJitsu type fall will save you. PS: >>>> Look at my profile picture > I wear my wrist guards and helmet when walking to and from the parking lot, you would be surprised at how many people slip & fall in the icy -wet parking lot ;)
  12. Ok, You blasphemer's this violation with not go unnoticed. You mite as well say "gee I was thinking about dating men for a change" We are like Israel a tiny minority surrounded by the hordes of Palestine-skiers we need to stay with "our kind" , lol. ( daughter brings home her new boy friend a rapper-skiier ) > Hi mom & dad this is my new boyfriend 2plankShakuer, lol:cool:
  13. __ _____ : Last Saturday amongst the other people I rode up with, I rode the lift with 3 separate mother and very young daughter duos , and one dad and son duo , all 4of these parents and children obviously under 10 did not have 1 helmet between the 8 of them !!! . I casually without hurting the ego of the parents so they dont get defensive and said to each one while I had a captive audience on the lift by saying " "hummm you both dont have a helmet on " they gave the same basic shoulder shrug and lack of any kind of cohesive reason for not having one. I mentioned for the most part that its the "no see em" that kills you. Mind you this is intuitive & just subjective opinion on my part but it seamed like the parents for all intense purpose seemed to be the immature one and they seamed to have an inordinate need to be seen as a cool buddy in the child's eyes and seamed to need the love and acceptance of the child more than they wished the the health & welfare of the child. This was subtle but obvious to me, these delinquent parents were not trailer trash who found the equipment and lift tickets in the dumpster, no they were middle to upper income types who had top of the line equipment. To me, to not have your kid wear a lid is tantamount to child neglect or abuse, and to not ride up hill of them acting as a "blocker" is not smart at best. Below is a video of a little baby doll who found out the hard way how dangerous it can be on the slopes, I don't know if she had a helmet on so it is just a footnote to this topic. another reason for a helmet.
  14. __ _____ : I really do try the search function , I look for "headlines" on the topics I am posting about 1st, I cant read "all" the content past the headlines that would take forever, most of my inquiry is not technical its more subjective & opinon oriented. Now as for technical stuff & brand name stuff that is much easier to look up over topics that may be started in any manner of ways. :)
  15. Carve Ship Burning Thighs, Beginner's Log Star Date 2010, Planet Talus : Tricorder readings show broken ice, hills of snow and numerous little discordant alien Gromulens, suggest avoidance at all cost, to close for proton missile switching to big snow gun. I "had" about 11 trips to the near by resort-mnt's and I learned a few things about alpine hard booting over soft and / or skiing. 1) You really should be the very 1st one on the lift when they open up so you can get that vital practice as a NuB ( U & I are both in the learning phase ) 2) "Carving" alpine is for the most part a groomed or fresh over groom trail sport, be "picky" if you can afford it get a season pass you you can "poo poo unless it's groom pow" 3) The trail really should be "wide" & "long", ( Don't go black you may never go back, lol ) the short & steep black D runs always put me into a religious revival -survival mode > O God don't let me die, lol ) a good blue or green run is a perfect learning mode ( I could ride blue my whole life and have fun ) 4) Crowd's : avoid the weekend, unless You can be 1st up on top you will always be distracted by bombers behind and brand NuB's in front. ( Scotty get me out of here" "Aya Capt I giving her all I got ) 5) Always bring a quiver / a 2nd all mountain weapon with hard boot set up on it to switch when the unwashed masses invade and conquer the slopes to fight off the hoard of moguls. yet still remain hard booting. ( Don't give into the Romulens in their soft boot mind control, stay "hard" ). 6) My favorite & Yours > Move to CO :p
  16. I mentioned before, that were I just moved from I had a small single chair lift snowboard only park in my so Cal high mountain home town, what state are you referencing ?
  17. __ _____ : Very Cool , just that little spot can engender 100, 000 curious inquiries and result in dozens & dozens more hard booter's to the cult,:)
  18. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- __ ______ : Hummm that makes perfect sense. Thanks
  19. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- __ ____: lol, I have zero problem with ski only mountains, so long as they are private enterprise and not concessions contracted and servicing a national or state forest service. If a private concern wants to open a SB only mountain more power to them. Alpine hard booting seams to be a minotity and a problem if division of runs and mountains would come back strong like the 90's. To me alpine hard booting it looks more like a ski-carve friendly activity than a typical softboot'er SB'ing activity. I don't mind the quick zig zag of a skiers in front of me, I am on my mental toes around them, but I the rut-mogul thing is a pain. Alpine is too small, too little a minority to have any say over who runs what, so its the Serengeti Plains of Africa for us > we are gazelles , not soft boot pack of Hiennas or a pride of ski Lions, so it's survival of the fittest lol.
  20. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MY REPLY: Gotcha, I tried a search with key words "Snowboard Only Trails" "Ski Only Trails" and more and came up blank :o
  21. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ MY REPLY: I was thinking the same thing. The skinny 185cm I ride only likes groom, or fresh-E, and that can only be found for the 1st hour before before the gang 2planker's turns it into the craters on the Moon look, so that ends up being about $40 per hour to try and learn how to carve. The rest of the day is relegated to my old "snow surf" style of charge thru -over and around the Moon bunkers , grenade & bomb craters on my lunar snow rover, after a couple hours it's "```Ahhh ``Houston ```this is the L.E.M , we have a problem here, there is no tranquility as the base " -- " L.E.M this is Houston, we can you say again, repete, you have extreme chatter , check your vibration monitors for overload", lol ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's funny because I am turning into a "elitist type of groom snob" out of necessity to want to learn. I would have thought ski-zers would want their own runs. Worn out topic, NEXT
  22. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MY REPLY: Hay my friend, how come you got a Gold medal for breaking your ankle and I didn't . My routine was pretty good maybe not a gold metal gymnast routine like yours, lol, but I did do nose dive hook high side front flip over, a loud yelp followed by rolling around in deep off trail snow moaning and groaning, lol. I think I should at least get a bronze for the moaning & groaning part :(
