  1. .---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MY REPLY: I also notice a few other things about having a pint and hard booting. When I ride in the morning on the good groom and no beer ( no beer before lunch ) my legs get tired and even crampy ( remember I am new to hard boots ) and I just am not "smooth" , I can tell I am fighting and muscling the long board and boots. Give me a beer and I stop fighting the board & hill and I can ride the mid afternoon ruffed up crud better. I am a pretty darn good motorcyclist, owning a M/Cyle shop for 9 years & riding M/C's much longer than I have been S/B'ing, and I dont fight the bike at all I have 100% concentration and I simply do NOT like to ride the twisties on a sport bike on anything but water. I am much more comfy on a sport bike at 100+ than a carve board at 40+, I think its just what I am good at, at this time in my life and learning curve I don't have confidence on the board or perhaps in the board ( I don't know ) The difference is not drastic between beer and no beer, but I know & feel the difference and I am a truly introspective and objective person when it comes to athletics and being in the zone, You know what > I think I am trying to forcce myself into the zone and it's not working. I think I am in a hurry because hitting the mountain is not like just jumping on a bike and riding when ever I want, I have to drive & pay and park and get a few hours of slope time and I feel I feel squeezed and compressed to get it all in before the crowds come and I have to leave before they close I think I will cut the beer for a few days during my noon breaks and just give it more time to mellow and stop trying to charge so hard and not be to hype to learn and do it all in one day :o
  2. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- MY REPLY: Now yr talking, See I just "knew" that the carver class was a "cut above" the usual Mickies malt liquor crowd, :)
  3. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- PBRm is that Pee Bottled in the Rockies <lol></lol>
  4. There is a chain of French eateries called Jauceu' O LaBeau ( Jack in the box )
  5. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MY REPLY: Aahhh You took the bus or "caught a ride" up to the mountain on those 6'er days right ??? You behind the wheel on the way back down the mountain > :sleep:lol.
  6. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your right Bob, when I get there early ( which I always try to do ) and I want to be the 1st to cut the groom I am to wired up and edgy and so I dont have that elemental experience that I should be having. Here is another thing I have noticed that I LOVE to ride the lift almost as much as coming back down, to me the contrast of the slow ride up vs the fast one down, the fresh air with a wonderful view on the lift is SOOOoooooo spiritual and nice that I enjoy it almost as much. I like riding the lift alone for that reason I can sit and "be still". Being to edgy to ride fast reminds me of a line from an old Black Sabbath song "Your killing Yourself To Live" :)
  7. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ya I don't like the drunk feeling & 2 pints give me that feling, and because I am very active and kina athletic ( as apposed to being a real athlete which I am not ) I keep it to 1, ;) RE "Paxl" lol, I wonder what that would feel like
  8. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MY REPLY: I ride 99% of the time at only 2 mountains , they both have different attachments for the lift tickets ( I don't do a season pass because I split 50/50 between both ) Mnt Ashland has plastic zip -clip style, and Mnt Shasta has the old school wire coat hanger and sticky tape ticket, they both fit perfectly fine on my Cortech on one 1 of 3 attachment points on my jacket arm ( my pants are a military coverall bib's with no pocket or loops so its the jacket or nothing ) My Cortech jacket works find because each arm has 3 separate expandable vent open & closures with zipper plus pull cords which open and puff out a just a bit so they catch wind and let a little into my jacket, so there is my 3 options for ticket attachment points I attach my ticket to my rear foot side arm and I never even notice them at any speed. If you look at my profile photo You can see a stack of Ashland & Shasta tickets on my arm / rear arm ( I'm a goofy ) half way up the jacket sleeve, "simple"
  9. I noticed something and this only applies to snowboarding ( 22 years of it) and now my 1st season of hard boot carving practice, that when I stop for lunch and have a pint ( Double IPA ;) of course ) that I am better both at higher speeds and at my carving practice. I am "loose" yet still very focused, and more relaxed after having 1 beer , repeat ONE beer , NOT 2. Now after 2 beers I am no longer sharp and so I never drink more than 1 beer when I am at the mountain. I have NOT noticed that with all other sports I partake in, in all other sports I can NOT even have one drink or its a waist of time, ONLY when riding a steep on a snowboard. The only reason I honestly can think of for this phenomena is that I am a bit nervous & so I could be tight because I go kinda fast anyways, and so I am not relaxed to begin with and a beer takes the edge off and then I don't unconsciously fight the board and I am more in the flow and not against it, ( does that make any sense ??? ) What say You , Beer ? Coffee ? or strictly Oxygen & Water ?
  10. Even I know that's not carving and I have only been hard-booting for only 11 outings. But I appreciate his enthusiasm, I think he was so into trying to film & concentrate that he had "blinders" on. He should have had a few other folks mare familiar with carving look at his video and give feedback, it lacked content about the necessary equipment.
  11. *Cortech line of textile motorcycle jackets by Tour Master with removable armor. Made for crashing, & rainy windy weather, they are light weight with removable winter liner, multi inner & outer ykk zip & Velcro pockets, snug up neck, snug up wrists multi open & close air vents, night reflective piping etc... I have used for exclusively for S-boarding and have "O" problems. http://www.tourmaster.com/xcart/catalog/Textile-Jackets-p-1-c-3.html PS: my profile pic shows me in mine
  12. So I have 90 degree edge ( pro shop tune ) on my old Morrow 176 all mountain free ride with my 2nd hand hard plate & boot setup. I read some were about better carve hold / edge with a couple degrees less, such as 88. Question: Looking back in Your 1st season of hard booting, do You think that would that be a waist of time or yes go with 89 or 88 ? Do You think in general that it would be a good idea ? My new ( old ) board is coming ( 185 Oxygen pure carve ) Is that enough info to get a reply about 90 , 89 or 88 ? PS: a picture of my 176 is on my profile Your input / advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  13. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- A "busy" Saturday . OMG , I LOVE Sun Valley and Ive never been there . At 1st I thought, ( Looking inside my mind )> "Oh , he owns the resort and he's getting in some private runs with his operations crew and friends, before they open" lol. It seams so dreamy creamy groomy groovy good that I imagine all You guy's singing the song from The Sound Of Music> "The hill are alive with the sound of groomer's, lol. Thanks :)
  14. So that begs the question, how much for Toto to get "back" to Kansas
  15. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MY REPLY : A new carvers point of view , and a new carver with a moderate handicap, > I have only one eye ( my left still works ) I am a goof so I snatch an uphill shot toe side while practicing "the norm" or doing my typical mad dash bomb tuck and ugly hybridized slipping turns. I even glance full over my blind side / right side glance ( I look like chick from the exorcist )as I super twist look over my right shoulder while heel side. LOOK, It's a hassle to look back up while being a newbee to carving, I don't do it every turn , hell no, or I would never be able to concentrate enough to learn, I do it with a sense of timing of who and how far behind me the skiers or bombers are, and I look back every 3 or 4 as a matter of discipline & self preservation. I know pretty well who was back up at the top when I left, and about how long it will take them to catch up if the bomb the run, so I bomb the first 3rd of the run to give myself a large space between me and the pack ....or just sit and wait for them to leave, either way I want space. The Sun Valley video is a fantasy dream run video, I was raised on narrow California steeps, I probably would not be looking back if I could ride that kind of bare naked fat creamy milk run in the Idaho video, so it does not even translate to my mountains & situations. It can be distracting, BUT, I know from being a bomber speed freak myself a "controlled" speed freak ,( Im on the medication *Carvadone ) lol, so I know that it is wise to snatch a glance every few carves to check for rocket ships while carving. I agree with the absolute need to pick your spots, wait for traffic, have high situational awareness and just because Your playing by the rules that you dont live in a dream world thinking that your not gonna get hurt. All You "two eyes" got it made, so stop yr whining, LOL, snatch a glance and be aware at all times When I surfed every day in DelMar CA I knew people who would set up lawn chairs on the rail road tracks so they could get a good high cliff side spock on the wave set's below ya takes your chances and pay's the price for entry. If you don't live by intuition and common sense then you will live by chance and lottery and one day Your ticket will get punched, ( I had to learn that one the hard way many times ) Myself I am switching over to common sense & intuition that gives me objective high situational awareness PEACE Darwin takes care of his own
  16. 1) If you want the best sound, practice -& > make "live" music. I toured 120 gigs a year in the 70's 80 & early 90's > singing & drumming, most people in the audiance are a bit tonally & quality deaf, they listen like they sing > badly. Give me an old Gretsch drums set, a classic tube amp with Sure mic and axe men with old Rickenbacker & Gibson equipment overt the new stuff. Carvers are like audiophiles ,cigar & wine aficionados , like Becker & Fagen type quality musician's they make up a very small percentage of the listening community You have no "voice" when sitting in the listeners seat , so pick up Your old violin or 6 string &>( see line 1 )
  17. I will pull the pin on the smoke grenade when I start a run for all the up hillers behind me to see me, and honk the air horn continuously for all the down hillers to hear me coming, LOL that should solve this issue , lol:lol:
  18. Sound stupid, well I not talking about installing a rear video cam for pete sake like an RV, lol. I am just trying it out now, I am a road cyclist and love to have my little round rear view mirror clamped on my cycle hat when I road ride, and I use it when I walk the forest hunting so I can watch any deer that try to sneak across the path I already passed and any cougar that are "stalking" me. I "have" spotted deer and small game behind me with my cyclist clip on mirror. I will see if it can cross over to carving & boarding in general I am gonna try it on my helmet to see if I can actually take a quick glance thru it , thru the goggles to "Check 6" while I practice norm carves, I doubt it will work but here goes nothing.
  19. I vaguely remember , I think it was a Colorado if I remember, a case about drunken slope head-softbooter who destroyed an inocent twin sticker as he bomber stone drunk into the poor person. I don't remember the verdict but it was a case of deep pockets, & who is / was legally responsible, the bar tender at the lodge, the ski park, the drunk moron, or shared responsibility ? What is the state of the law in each state ( the state you are in ) if you know ? PS: I saw 2 slope heads with frosty pints openly in hand board the lift this season at Shasta
  20. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ya I dig ya :)
  21. I saw You coming down a Douglas run, smooooooooth carve's ;)
  22. LOTS of snow, weather was 9/10 but the groom was I-C. I had the 1st 3 long runs of corduroy all to myself , I mean ONLY me !!! I bombed the 1st two and I know I broke my own speed record I knew I was in the 50's easy, it started to get a bit jiggy:eek: For some reason Shasta groom is not comparable to "big dollar resort" groom its more like Mnt Ashland "kinda chunky all the time. I should have brought a PowBoard to cut through the trees , the groom was "hard" , in fact too hard for my hard plate adapted freecarve 175, but a "real" carve man ( or women ) would have eaten the groom up . That's my report and I'm sticking to it and going back on Sat.
