  1. Well I hate to be so predictable, but I jumped on Chris's (actually Rogers) Prior deal-io. This will be my 3rd prior. (#1)175cm-(#2)190cm-(#3)185cm. Thanks everyone, Paul
  2. To stop - at the end of the run, you rip a huge wide layed over turn, taking up the whole slope, leaving just enough speed to head back up the ramp, and rejoin the lift-line.
  3. Chris' H's Prior is looking like the top contender at the moment. The Burton's in maybe position #2 (anyone guesstimate when it was built?). The 181 Prior from Boris is a hair smaller than I want I think, but the photos are beautiful.
  4. Yep, still use em...contemplating upgrading to UPZ's this year though...
  5. I'm looking for a GS board suitable for a 215 lb rider. Prior's Donek's, Coilers, Virus, etc., etc. Something stiff around 180cm or so would be good.
  6. I race in the Crescent Ski Council (CSC) race series - slalom and GS, long poles define the race course. The racing series I am in, is in the south East (NC/WVA). Here's what I'm getting from the organisers :- "If you have an interest in helping or advising on how we can secure more snowboard racers please contact me." "Know any other snowboarders who would be interested in racing? I’ve been primarily targeting skiers for recruitment." So, any ideas on how to boost numbers? The CSC series which is popular in the South East is a bit of a pain for folks that might want to do an impromptu race or two, as it involves being on a team, and worse still qualifying to be on a team. Neither of these are negotiable. Frankly, the only folks I 'ride' with on a regular basis are on ski's. While I know a snowboarder or two, I don't think many of them have much interest in racing. I see about 2 other snowboarders who regularly come out for racing in our local series. Maybe posting on something like the 'Ride' board would be good? Advertising in stores has crossed my mind. What other ideas do folks have? Cheers, Paul
  7. I was riding Burton plates in spring 1988, don't know much about the sport before that. Someone had to have made some home-made plate bindings before a major manf got in on the game.
  8. Although I'd say generally my Supermodel is my main board, and I bring out the hard boot setup when racing or its hardpacked. Last year that changed, when every trip was a race trip. I started riding with ski boots and plate bindings on a Burton Air. Was berated by a ski instructor once for choosing the most difficult setup to learn on. After buying a soft boot setup, I made the switch to a PJ/hard boots the day my K2 HC 72 was stolen. I never recovered that. That board rocked, although it did not like to turn fast.
  9. I was told off for doing this last season. Start of the morning, no one in the lift line, I walked the short stretch to the front of the lift line. One of the lift line guys made me stop walking. I was totally puzzled about this and asked him why. He said that my footprints messed up the flat snow that they had for the lift line. And this was in the South East, so we're not talking deep snow here; more like crushed hardpack. First time I've ran into that problem in 20 years of boarding. Paul
  10. I want to purchase a set of tuning vices this year to hold the board vertically so I can put an edge on my boards. Does anyone have a suggestion for a set that will hold an alpine board? The Burton Tuning Vices look like a good solution, but I'm wondering if they can hold a thick Alpine board like a Prior Custom. Thanks, Paul
  11. I had a supermodel that had a hit just like that, although smaller in length. The boardshop epoxied it (slow cure rate stuff), clamped it overnight, and I've been riding it for years since this.
  12. Hintertux Austria. It's on the glacier. I spent a week there one summer about 20 years ago. They have a lot of ski-gate training going on there, or at least did back then. At that time, based on what I could find out it seemed to have the biggest amount of area for glaciel skiing. We even found a beat up half pipe. Good times. Bring a pair of shorts for a mandatory photo shoot. Oh ya, and some goretex gloves. You'll need em to keep the water out from your hands. Paul
  13. Maybe glue on a thin sheet of aluminum. Kind of like what we used to do to converses back in the day to make them into skate shoes.
  14. I've tried it a couple of times. It's more fun that it looks. I enjoy playing with it for a few mins. I don't think I'd do a long ride on it though.
  15. I've left this board wet a couple of times in the back of the truck in a board bag, and the board hasn't dried out properly, and it's edges have rusted. It would appear that the rust may have penetrated into the board and now be visible beneath the P-tex. You can now see the edge material outline beneath the P-tex. Any thoughts on this. The board is over a decade old - custom Prior built for me. The board doesn't seem quite as snappy as it used to be, although there is camber still left on it. The Coiler I picked up off of a BOL member seems way snappier, but it's way newer also (and thanks by the way, I scored a 3rd place in one event on that Colier) It may be time to break down and order something new. Sigh, we've had some good times together. Paul
  16. That board is done. I've never seen anything so bad.
  17. Great info as usual. I'll let you know what I end up getting. Paul
  18. Anyone know which manufacturers make a ski/snowboard full face helmet. I've looked around a bit and can only locate obselete models that used to be sold. Providing a link to a manufacters website would be awesome also. Thanks, Paul
  19. I had a question on some older Catek parts that I wanted to purchase. I can guess the answer. But no response from them yet - it's been a week. Now compare this to Outdoor research. Wow. I emailed them about a decade set of old mittens that I had where the seam-tape had delamed. They replaced the mittens with a new set of mittens. I emailed them to tell them that they were tight. They emailed me back the next day and said they'd upgrade me to the next size up. That's pretty amazing customer service and super fast easy to deal with communication. Paul - still a Catek happy consumer..
  20. http://www.dakine.com/snowboard/bags/wheeled-board-bags/overload-convertible/ May be the ticket. A friend just purchased one, and it is lonnnnng.
  21. Yeah, I'd like to buy a set of the original world cup bindings. Let me know what you have. The others styles won't work (with my boots). Thanks, Paul
  22. Thanks guys. I found the video of Jasey :- http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=22945&highlight=Jasey+Jay+video
  23. I hear you. In the division I'm in, we have 3 snowboarders and probably 150 skiers. So, I don't think we'll be moving to stubbies anytime soon. I think that I'm going to just buy protection for the parts that hit the gates. So, a kevlar forearm guard is being ordered up first. Sounds like a full face helmet might be the next thing to consider. Some of the div 1 racers (most probably) use a chin guard. Might be a good thing to consider adding.
