I can´t think of any WC riders at the moment which do not use a plate in SL races.
For non racers the question is what your focus is. When I ride shorter SL boards I tend to play around more and do more drills because of the easy handling of these boards (
). In such situations a plate would not be very helpful (weight, edge grip faster and more aggressive, ...). On the other hand you can also feel the advantages of a plate (better pressure distribution, increased leverage, more dampening, ...) on SL boards, especially when the going gets tough (hard icy slopes, moguls, ...).It´s interesting that some racers who use the plates in races would not recommend them for everyday use, especially when the slopes are not icy.
I just mounted a vist plate to my SG Full Race Pro Team 163 ... this setup really turns the board into a battleship ;) ... weight - 7,3kg and this is with the "light" Ibex bindings. Let´s see how long it will stay on this board ...
The longer the boards the more I use plates on them. Although I still use my boards a lot without plates.
It will be interesting to find out how the new plates change the ride.
