  1. I think you're better off selling the bindings as parts and buying some F2 or Bomber TD3 bindings.
  2. Welcome to the forums Marc. My approach is different to the rest, so take it with a grain of salt. Equipment and settings does not equal technique. Don’t buy or try any “alpine” equipment yet. Ignore all advice to change your angles to some arbitrary number. (I can carve on a reverse camber twin tip board with duck stance.) First you need to stop sliding your turns and learn to really really carve on your current equipment. Ryan Knapton has a couple of videos on how to do this on YouTube. Once you can carve in your existing gear, that may be all you need/want. Hard boots limit your mobility. Hard boots limit your ability to absorb shock. Hard boots are a going to make you go much slower in conditions where the snow is less than perfect. If you just have to try hard boots, try them with your existing board, assuming it’s stuff enough to handle what the boots and bindings will allow you to do. A typical freestyle/park board will not be stiff enough, an all mountain board like an Arbor Steepwater would work. Slowly build up your skills, watch a ton of videos, don’t ask too many questions on the internet because you’ll get more confused with everyone’s radically different answers. Most importantly, try to have fun and build upon the new skills and technique you acquire. It’s going to take a while, and it’s worth the time and effort. -Joe
  3. I'm back. What's been going on? Not a whole lot of anything special. I stopped lifting for the month of December for no good reason. Well, I decided to stop driving my WRX and bought a big ass GMC SUV with the hopes of unloading my WRX pretty quickly. I'm back in the gym after using the floor space to acquire truck and car parts. StrongLifts recommended 50% de-load since it was almost exactly one month since I lifted last. I accepted their recommendation and upped the squat weight a bit. Squats are ramping up quickly by increasing 10lbs per workout instead of 5lbs and the upper body stuff didn't drop very much. I could have probably done just a 20% drop in squat deadlift and rows, but figured my spine would like a little mercy. Bench and Press are mostly unaffected. It's been good to get back to listing, it's been too long. I'll have a much better update in a couple of weeks when I'm lifting my weights on par with my end of November numbers.
  4. TD3 rings are adjustable in 5 degree increments from the ring to board and infinitely adjustable from plate to ring. It's arguably more resolution than you could ever feel. You are correct in that adding any canting (inward or outward) to a pure heel or toe lift setting will decrease the total amount of lift, but don't get hung up on the numbers, just rotate the bases a few "clicks" to get your setting.

  8. You're actively promoting a second event in an Event thread. This causes confusion. Your intentions may be good, and it's appreciated. However it is confusing if you don't read all the information. Let's promote one week and not two different time periods. It's confusing which week will be the week to go, so if possible, let's drop the 12-16 Aspen flyer and just go with the original plan of February 3-9. If you want to go on another week, then promote that in another thread please.
  9. I'm still under the barbell, lifting things and putting them down. I will be posting an update soon now that the message boards are on-line. I'm back to where I was two months ago before I pulled a back muscle and had to do a massive de-load cycle. Weights are all up in the "it's getting serious" range. The interesting thing is that I feel more comfortable lifting today than I was 2 months ago, so that's a good thing. Confidence begets confidence. That's all for now.

Having done Wendler 5/3/1 and now with some experience with StrongLifts 5x5, I can say that what Alan says about the other programs are probably pretty accurate as his Wendler and StrongLifts reviews are as I've experienced. Anyway, here are the links, Part 1 (SS, SL Texas and 5-3-1): Part 2 (Juggernaut & SuperSquats): Part 3 (Cube and Oly Lifting): Edit: Corey, Alan mentions the SS/SL and other programs programs not emphasizing upper body lifts enough to have the press and bench grow as much as squats and deadlifts. Perhaps you entered into that zone, although your numbers are still pretty solid. If you are back on 5/3/1, then you are probably getting your upper body volume.
  11. Starting Strength, StrongLifts and Wendler 531 are all great simple programs to use if one has the ability to follow along and just do the work as prescribed and not try to fast track your progress or throw in random exercises.

Week 11 completed: Squat 95# @ 5x5 Bench 75# @ 5x5 Row 75# @ 5x5 Squat 100# @ 5x5 Press 65# @ 5x5 Deadlift 135# @ 1x5 Impressions: It was nice to get back into the garage gym for a few days after my injury. Corey posted a link to a video by Alan Thrall, it has a lot of good information and I recommend everyone watch it so you know what and what not to do when you get injured. This week was a partial week as I had some construction going on in my garage and it took up a lot of time and space. Basically I have real storage shelves hung from the wall and roof vs old bookshelves screwed together along the wall, a nice snowboard pantry and a proper height work bench with storage below. Hoping next week will be more focused on lifting and less on woodwork and organization.
  13. Prancercising is a decent alternative for staying fit during the season, you can do it to and from the car and from the ski rack into the bar. Prancercising will get you in touch with your sensual side while also giving you the fitness capacity to kill large wild animals:
  14. A bike trainer is dog shit for anything other than getting good at riding a bike trainer. Well, maybe using them as a tool to warm up before a bike race, but that is it. I've raced against people who used bike trainers exclusively and they were not getting faster as the months passed. Crossfit can be good or incredibly dangerous, it depends on your starting fitness level and your awareness of your limbs and geospatial acumen, one can do well with Crossfit. If you choose Crossfit, please start slowly and go to beginner classes or through an on-ramp program. Seriously. There are so many Crossfit places open that the quality of instruction will be hit or miss. Although the program is supposed to scale, it's going to be really difficult for you to scale snatches and muscle-ups if you attend a normal/advanced class and you have no idea what you are doing. Also standing between two beasts who could throw you across the room does nothing for your confidence that you are in the right place, no matter how polite everyone is. The coaches and instructors should perform some sort of assessment for your abilities to provide you guidance as you learn more about your own physical abilities and limits. Yoga is not fitness, never treat it as such. It's a great tool to use in conjunction with a proper strength and conditioning program on your rest days.
  15. For the asking price and strictly as a soft boot powder board, subjectively the NS Summit 167 is just as good as the Nomad. I have not ridden them side by side as I have only one set of bindings and it's been a while since I've ridden my much shorter 2007/8 Summit 161 vs my Nomad 164. I have no experience with the Summit 167 and that is more of a direct comparison to the Nomad 164. If I had the Summit 167, I probably wouldn't have bought a Nomad 164 as they are very similar in paper stats: similar effective edge, floppy nose, radius, taper and widths. The thing I really liked about the Summit is it's playfulness. It's a willing partner in the powder and wants to rise to the surface, I've tried to sink the nose and it can happen if you really really try in sierra cement, but any board can bury the nose if you're trying to do it. The following review is of a newer model that has the Never Summer camber/rocker/camber profile. However, the side cut and construction is probably the unchanged. The board in this for sale post has full camber, but make no mistake: this is a powder board, it will not slay groomers on the way to the powder stashes as the set back on this is pretty aggressive.
  16. This is a great powder board, I had the 161 and gifted it to my now ex-girlfriend. If you are under 200lbs, the 167 should do you fine and it will not sink ever.

  18. Received the board in tip top shape, packaged in a proper snowboard box too!. Kurt is a good seller, I've bought a few things off him over the years. The board is now safely stored in my bedroom, waiting for some good snow coverage.

  20. Yep, from 1997! I went to a LBS to replace a Wellgo clip-less pedal where the body unscrewed from the spindle. I had another set of Wellgo's in my hand and I was talked into the 747's as "the last clip-less pedal you will ever buy". 20 years and going strong after lots of water immersions, rock strikes and thousands of clip ins and clip outs..
