  1. There’s a guy... There is a guy that works in the wax/tuning shop at Canyon Lodge at Mammoth. He’s a bit older than the regular crew of teenagers whom you are likely to encounter there. Anyway he’s been there for years and he knows about alpine boards, tuning and beveled edges and such. I’ve never used them but you might also look up Stick Docs. They’ve been around for a few years so I assume that they know what they are doing. http://stickdocs.com/ Not sure if that’s much help but that’s all I got for California. If you have plans for Aspen, Gene Taylor’s at Snowmass has a good shop too.
  2. I won’t be at highlands today, but will join for dinner tonight.
  3. Heading out from Canyon Lodge in am. Mid-day/lunch I should be near stump.
  4. I’m heading up tomorrow, Monday Feb 22 and staying about four days. May do June on one of the days. I’ll be riding a red Donek FC.
  5. I’m in from Feb 4 thru 10. Really shouldn’t be spending this kind of money this year, but oh well. It’s only money, right?
  6. I wonder if this is anything like Dardoz NotWax. It was a lacquer type liquid that you applied to the base. It lasted longer than wax, But it was not permanent.
  7. I was looking for a shop that does tuning In the San Fernando Valley and stumbled on Stick Docs. They don't seem to have a shop for walk-ins but instead have a pick up and delivery service. Just wondering if any one has used them or knows of their reputation. The website is at: http://stickdocs.com/
  8. As of today, the 20% discount was still in effect for the Snowmass Inn. But the website is not working correctly and is showing the place as completely booked up. I had to call directly to make the reservation.
  9. 3/12 - 3/13 is the only weekend that works for me. Not complaining though. In sun valley the week prior and a bus trip to mammoth the weekend after.
  10. Just arrived in town and I can confirm the heavy winds!
  11. I'll be at mammoth Friday through Monday, but only boarding on Friday. Skiing the other days.
  12. Unfortunately I can't make this one. Have house guests from out of town arriving that weekend. Have fun everyone.
  13. I'm up here now and skied the afternoon. Aside from half the mountain being closed, the snow conditions on the runs that are open are better than what I was expecting. Occasional bad spots here and there but no rocks or other debris. The Mtn was pretty much empty with zero lift lines too.
  14. Just made a contribution, albeit a small one. Thanks for posting. Our sport needs all the support it can get.
  15. I have the same pad and I think it's the best one out there. It's made by Dakine. Lonbordin is right, the sprays only last three runs at best. Here is the all black version. http://www.shredshop.com/store/product/170850/Dakine-Spike-Stomp-One-Size/?gclid=CJmm6fmoyrsCFShyQgodigYA7w
  16. Ditto. Not the cheapest place in town but Claude is one of the best. I've used him on two sets of hard boots and and my old ski boots too. He doesn't like to be rushed and only does boot fitting by appointment.
  17. I renewed my Mammoth MVP again, but this most likely will be the last time.
  18. I have an older F2 Silberpfeil you can try. 162 length. About 18.0 width. It was a quick to turn and fun to ride, but it was way too small for me. It might be too narrow for soft boots though.
  19. While up a Mammoth a few weeks ago, there was a couple behind me and I couldn't help but overhear their conversation. I heard the girl call attention to the board and bindings that I was on, which is not that uncommon. What followed was. The guy obviously didn't know anything about the equipment, but it didn't stop him from explaining things. He went on to say that this equipment was for beginners just learning how to snowboard and the bindings were designed to release in a fall, just like ski boots. I don't know how he came up with this but have to give him some credit. He probably worked in sales. I really don't need validation from strangers and had no interest in making him look like an idiot in front of his girlfriend, so I just ignored the entire thing.
  20. I've been up here since tuesday afternoon. Mostly good conditions. Icy groom in the morning, wet and sticky around lunch time. Bumpy hard pack as it starts freezing up around 3:00. I'll be on skis friday to give the boarding muscle group a rest.
  21. I'm flying up on Tuesday afternoon. Don't know if I can get any runs in on tuesday afternoon, but you'll see me on wednesday and thursday for sure.
  22. I would, but have other obligations on saturday.
  23. I haven't hit the local resorts in years because of the crowds. But I ordered a new Donek FC which arrived yesterday and I'd like to test it out and get everything dialed in before Mammoth next week.
