  1. scratching my head trying to think where this might be... sounds cool! *edit* nevermind. just figured it out (assumed as much, just never been up there). neat!
  2. looks like there's several companies making wheels like that (abec 11, retro, etc, at a quick glance) lots online.
  3. that's a rad idea. i've got indy 169's on there right now. think i'll keep the board stock (needs some new wheels though; the 20 yr old ojII 92a's are a wee bit rough); having fun just weedling about at the moment on it & trying to remember how to skate again. a fun casual play board methinks. feeling a bit of a dork - 40yr old guy skating about feebly - but having fun. i think the rayne's look hot (and i'm a gear whore), so i'll most likely pick one up regardless.
  4. interestingly enough, the longboard thing has recently piqued my curiosity. my 3 yr old's interest in skateboards had me pulling out my 20+ yr old dogtown scott oster out of cobwebs & going for a shaky back alley session. the big boards look like so much fun, and more up my alley (ie, mellow carving). always thought the rayne boards looked cool (first saw them at the east van culture crawl a couple years ago), and coincidentally, my baby girl is of the same name, so i feel somehow obligated to buy one. love to support the locals, anyways. got my eye on the hellcat atm - sweet looking deck.
  5. thanks for the heads up. alas, now that the snow has *finally* melted from the lower elevs, the board has been shelved in favor of bikes. had some great days (well, evenings; only made it up in the daylight once this year), made some progress & am looking forward to carving it up next season. cheers!
  6. the gnu antigravity was my first board, so i'm nostalgically fond of the graphic. the neon pink raceroom was especially rad. i'd totally rip that one off.
  7. surprised there isn't a westcoast canadian event - esp. during the olympic year. our numbers too meagre?
  8. and i thought the schtubbs were blunt. wow.
  9. fwiw, mine is current construction (built 2 mos ago).
  10. mine (also a 177) are definitely more centered. perhaps a misdrill? quick & dirty ps:
  11. i for one welcome bordy's rants. good to see some **** disturbing & challenging of the status quo. if this niche is to survive & flourish, it's got to embrace progression. the current state of the art hardware (ie, surprisingly versatile & forgiving, yet ridiculously high performance) is a great step forward in making the sport more accessable to a larger audience, however the continued existance of the sport lies in the hands of a handful of micro builders. these guys decide alpine isn't worth the effort, or have to fold up altogether, and the sport dies along with them.
  12. i think they can be hugely beneficial. this is my second 'carving' season, and picking up the new prior metal has been a revelation. i initially thought going wcr would be too much board for my level of riding, but i've since found otherwise. easy to ride in a variety of conditions, and super confidence inspiring. grippy & damp on hardpack / ice (first time on ice i couldn't believe what it was sticking to) = much more relaxed. decambered nose = relaxed innitiation in a variety of conditions, and no stuffing in the nasty stuff (chunky / concrete, etc). more taper = easy to whip the tail around / wiggle through traffic if need be. stub nose = big effective edge for the length; crank it over & it hauls a sweet clean line. harcore carver, without the asskicking if your technique isn't perfect. very forgiving & so much fun. this board has been the biggest contribution to my riding development so far. fantastic.
  13. i'd save the $ & just go stock 173; 1m & 1cm, isn't going to make a massive difference in the real world. it's going to be a kickass deck regardless.
  14. i was carving freshies last night. seems winter still has a tenuous grip on the west coast. north shore bike trails are still mostly buried, alas.
  15. i was up for an evening rip last night. it was dumping crystaline & windy, which made for deserted slopes & fresh tracks. rainbow was the run du jour - big fast ripper turns in the fresh. pow turns on the shore mid-march; who woulda thunk? fun fun fun. almost makes up for the fact the bike trails below are still covered in snow (mt. biking is my primary sport, and i've never been off the bike for so long in my last two decades of riding). the wcrm was surprisingly capable in these conditions. any deeper, and i'd be wanting for more width, but it got the job done nicely. i love this plank. hats off to the prior boys.
  16. would have been great to see the tinkie - i love those boards (aesthetically, anyways). sunday night was decent. got up just after 8 & was allowed to park at the new lodge (rockstar style, first row) for free. hill was deserted. apart from a few sporadic patches of ice, snow was decent. hung out on rainbow for the night. lower half was decently soft & trenchable. constantly learning & having good times. again, the prior is amazing. the harder you drive it, the better it works, yet it's surprisingly forgiving & super stable. fun!
  17. not what i insinuated. simply that because the corners are all bermed, there's no need for carving gear to haul through them. toss in some flat turns & alpine hardware might become more relevant. or not. last time i watched harbooters in bx, they all looked pretty spastic in the air.
  18. i didn't notice risers on any of the podiums @ the cypress wc bx; is it a course specific hardware choice? looking at the huge berms on the course (and subsequent lack of edge angles / need for carving ability), i think it'd be neat to throw some fast flat turns in the courses - to see hardboots back on the course, and the different styles mixing it up again.
  19. you're old! j/k; i just turned the decrepit 4-0 a couple months ago. cheers!
  20. had a solid night. grippy conditions are almost a novelty- very fun & forgiving. busy tho. loving the wcrm!
  21. sounds good. will be up this eve.
  22. that was me. i'm using mgx's with td3's. there was interference between the boot sides & toe bail that didn't allow the boot to seat on the plate completely. i trimmed a couple mm's from the boot & they've been perfect. since the boots were dirt cheap i'd try modding them.
  23. awesome! hauling ass. makes me want to make 'braaaaap' moto noises.
  24. can anyone confirm if td3's are problematic w/ upz's as well? given the small selection of available boots out there, it seems odd to limit what's compatible.
  25. had the day off so went up for 1st lift. first day this year on fresh groom; holy crap, grippy cord is amazing! crank the board over & it just hooks up. cutting clean lines down the hill rocks. my legs are fried from the g's. so much fun, i'm amazed this sport isn't more popular. anyways, great day despite the lack of recent snow.
