  1. Here's the thread on the Mammoth forums: http://forums.mammothmountain.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=10249 And a report on Mammoth Times http://www.mammothtimes.com/content/sun-begins-shine-snowboard-accident-victim
  2. Geez I can't even imagine what the scene was like. "A 43-year-old woman snowboarder crashed into the side of a snowcat last week at Mammoth Mountain, losing a leg when she was entangled in the spinning tiller behind the cat. "Her leg was gone!" said a startled employee at the ski area, who asked for anonymity until investigators could complete their work. Kathleen Willhidemichiulis, a season pass holder from the Saugus neighborhood of Santa Clarita, was immediately airlifted to a Reno hospital, where she was put in a medical coma, where she remained Tuesday morning." http://mammothtimes.com/content/grisly-accident-mammoth-mountain http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/outposts/2011/03/mammoth-mountain-snowboarder-hits-snowcat-loses-leg.html http://news.sierrawave.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4358%3Asnowboarder-at-mammoth-mountain-runs-into-snowcat-suffers-major-injuries&catid=6&Itemid=200021
  3. Those of you going this weekend will you be rocking hardboots on your pow board? We can still have a hardbooter event I've tried this before with an ATV and forward angles and didn't like it so much. I'm thinking of lowering the angles and trying again on the Flagship on Friday.
  4. I'll be at June on Saturday and Sunday with my big group of friends. I wear an orange jacket and might even try riding in hardboots on my new powder board. I'm driving up early on Friday but not sure if I will do Mammoth or June.
  5. That works for me since I rented a cabin with my friends this weekend and will have to go anyway.
  6. Should we meet at the bottom of J1 at 8am again?
  7. Boooooo! I guess this coming weekend will be a good opportunity to test out a well used Jones Flagship I picked up on geartrade.com
  8. There's reports it will snow everyday from now through Sunday 3/27. Boooo, hisss:mad:
  9. Booooo it looks like there could be a storm coming our way next week. I normally would choose a good pow day over a good groomer day but not when there's 20 other hardbooters there to rip with.
  10. I knew you'd love it! It's a carver's dream in SoCal. The only con is it's not a gigantic resort and hitting the same runs over and over can get a little boring. Come back on a pow day and you'll fall in love all over again. The cluster f* at Mammoth after a storm is enraging but you can get first tracks over and over at JM. The best pow riding I've ever done was on the bottom half of the resort. Also, don't forget to tell your friends to stay away http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc229/yweski/JUNESUX_3.jpg
  11. I almost always prefer carving at June unless I'm fortunate enough to be at Mammoth on a weekday. The employees seem to be cheerier in general
  12. I'm biased but how about Mammoth Mountain, CA? You can actually hit Tahoe, June Mtn, then Mammoth Mtn and tour the best of CA
  13. Oh boy, I'd love to put this guy's whining at the beginning of the video for SNES....
  14. So what kind of hardware is available to demo this year?? ------ Loc Coiler VSR 168 tight Arbor A-frame 162 (I'll only bring this if someone is interested) ------
  15. Nailed it. Carving will never blow up. There's really no sex appeal in what we like to do. I love watching movies from people like Jeremy Jones, T. Rice etc because what they do has variety, danger, suspense, thrill, etc. Seeing freestyle competitions is exciting and awe inspiring. What can you really do with a carving movie? Turn left, turn right, cross over, cross under. YAWN. I mean who's gotten laid because they can euro carve? :D I hate to say it but even I'm in agreement with my mountain buddies when I say alpine is for hipsters.
  16. I'm finally returning to my 2nd home. Anyone else going up that weekend? The forecast is looking good for more freshies and visits to the white room. I'm staying in Motel 6 with my buddies. We plan on riding June on Saturday and Mammoth on Sunday. I'm anxious to try out the Arbor A-Frame
  17. I've done it before and don't like it at all, even on a Prior ATV 171. I borrowed my friend's Sierra Reverse crew and put on my Burton Drivers for a pow day earlier this season in Mammoth and had a blast in pow. I've since picked up an Arbor A-Frame to use on soft days. Mammoth just got 8ft of freshies and more to come this week which makes me pretty excited to try this setup. People should just use whatever works for them.
  18. I was hoping to see a Kessler listed, George! A man can dream I guess Hope your leg is solid again and we can rip with you at SNES
  19. Also, I asked Snow Performance and they don't plan on coming to Mammoth this spring.
  20. When I first started a couple years ago I took a 2 hour private lesson with Flo Jayme at Squaw Valley. Super chill guy. If I ever make it back up to Tahoe I plan on taking a lessons to carve on steeps with him. You can reach him at his address on this page. I'm not sure if he still teaches but shoot him an e-mail and let us know too. http://www.alpinecarving.com/flo.html
  21. Woohoo, another SoCaler Do everything you can to make it to SNES in March. You can demo all the latest board tech to your hearts content. I'm close to your physical description at 5'6" and ~155lbs. My Coiler VSR 168 is the perfect length for carving around the mountain. It was quite popular at SNES last year. I usually go to June and Mammoth so watch the SoCal forum and hopefully we can meetup.
  22. Some more unconfirmed details posted on EpicSki: http://goo.gl/JrPj5 "At the end of the day Craig McArthur, and Jock Richardson the two spokesmen were fired and escorted off of the hill and banned from the property. During the discussion they had with owners and management they asked why Charlie Hitchman had been let go. They were told it was because he showed “bad judgment” in removing Taylor Scurfield and friends from the closed area. The owner also threatened legal action against all the staff that protested."
  23. That's unbelievable. What a bunch of idiats and morans running the place. I hope the bad press spreads far and wide.
  24. Thanks for keeping us informed. I'm anxious to try one and some of my softbooter friends are pretty curious too. Now go burn the midnight oil
