Carving it is not a matter of boots you can carve well in both (unless is icy), it is a matter of stance and technique. It is a little sad that people who write this kind of stuff for magazines (also the letter) fail to recognize it. And lets face it, carving is boring . You carve left and then you carve right and than you do it again. There is a reason they cover freestyle were guys would do inverted 720s. Now you can flame me.

I am in Alaska Valdez it is dumping non stop now and there are 2 feet of powder with a decent base on the Thompson pass. There are no silly ski resorts around, no morons no skidders, no screaming children, no speed police no groomers, no nothing,no heli yet it is not on until January (too expensive anyway) All chugach mountain are for me. These are the most beautifull mountains i have seen so pure. I snowkite or if the wind is not good i just hike up. I have to tell you i don't miss all that resort crap.

Side cut is a key! you need to go 12M or more, you need GS turn to have enough time to lay it down. Euro carve does not work well on slalom decks lest then 10M

I am not going to stop laying it down dont get me wrong, i just want to add a little more spice to it. In the end of last seson i started to hiting 360s between tottaly layed down turs and got a kick out of this. Want to do more stuff like that this seson. Come to Windham some weekend lets ride together.

Hi Interesting thread, most of cones and pros has been said already. (Jack as usually i think you are right) Here are my two cents, two aspects that has been missing so far. 1) Wider board = less stupid coments on the lift. 2) Personaly i am boared with "traditional" carving, i am looking into adding some freestyle elements switch, 360, jumps, grabs ect to my carving Wider board, lower angles, twin tip is obvious way to go. (i ride 23cm and ankles between 40 and 50) Try to land 360 on 18cm and steep angles 60+

Hi Guys Thanks so much, i was expecting a lot of negative comments about graphic but this thread turned out to be very constructive to me. I knew that i wanted short board with maximum runing edge but now i understand better dynamics of the hammer nose and i am even more convinced that this is right direction. It is great!!!! Any thoughts about width? i am thinking to increase it to 24cm, maybe. What are the consequenses of wider waist in metal construction? how is torsional stiffnes? Thanks

I am not sure, my intention was to have maximum runing edge with minimal lenght. There might be some other cosequences of that shape my guess is it will not perform in powder as good as traditional shape. accually it is very good question right on subject.

Hi Jack I am not sure if I want to increase overall size I really don't need one more long board, however acording to Bruce runing edge does not end when camber ends but where round (top view) so this board running edge will be 145 at least even with 160 lenght. I need to confirm it with Bruce SCR went up to 13 becouse Bruce said that metal board can be bend easier.

I am working with Bruce and we will adjust side profile (decamber and gentel curve at the tips) also I am going to 13m scr. yes it will be tween tip stubby, insert will be set back a little from the center line also flex patern will be assymetric. Graphic need some more explorations, I will post visuals when ready. I will avoid sculls and flames for sure, but pink unicorns might be interesting. i love an idea of black roses on the bottom not sure if it is doable Thanks for feedback

it is a tween tip. Geometry will be symetrical but the stiffnes pattern will be assymetrical.

It is a first pass on my new board. Still need to explore few more graphic ideas, but shape is getting closer. I am planing to increase a radius to 13M. and tweek side profile a bit. This board is going to have metal construction i will be using it for extream carving, euro style but also a lot of swich carving , 360s, jumps ad more free style elements. Any feedback? I will post new version as soon as it is avalible.

That guy was an idiot to be there in huricane, Fall and spring is the best time for kitbording on east coast, i will be kiting untill december then i would move to snowkiting, much beter then downhill, NO MORE CROWDS and much cheeper. of course I will do some carving too but if i had a choice i would exclusivly snowkite.

1 Snowkite more so i can get away from skilifts, crowds to anjoy nature and powder. 2 Improve my racing skils 3 implement more freesyle tricks to the freecarving/eurocarve technique.

540s hmmmm i didnt get there yet. How do you get enough of pop to do 540 ? On the flat not bumps. 180 are super easy except that you need to carve backwards (this is a diffrent issue) I ride on flat tail too long and it prevented me from exploring those areas, but now i am thinking flat tail is not worth it. not so bad for me 1) Got into racing, i was second in nationals for slalom and first for GS (my edge group only) 2) Did some teaching and psia level 1 3) finally started doing 360s between fully lay down euro carves. That was the best part of my seson, i never seen anybody doing this but it is accualy easy Przemek

I am speachless, it is completly retarded. We should have next expresion sesion there insted of aspen. It would add some more excitment to carving.

Ok here is my 3 cents. i was teaching some beginers thisseson and i prefer to teach in soft so students can realte beter. I had some oportunity to try softies in diffrent setups. Also i was switching boots like an idiot 5 times a day. here are my findings: 1 one can carve quite well in softies (similar angles and technique as alpine on my 172 tanker) but only in optimum coditioons as soon as it get icy (east coast) or more bump up it does not work any more. 2 when you do fully laid down turn it is kind of difficult to get up for some reason 3 whole thing seems to be a little sketchy i feel like i am about to brake my ankle all the time, i dont think soft set up can support my style of ridining 4 overall i dont see any reason to use soft (i dont ride pipe and park) and my hard boots perform well in the woods and powder, more precision (i forgot to mention snowkiting but it is a different story) 5 I really dont see how one could carve efficiently with negative angles (duck) it will make your hillside look like puping and ice and steeps are out of question. Unless we talking blue trails only. Thanks and sorry for spelling Przemek
