  1. Sorry, this is OT (which is kind of ironic, considering the thread name), but youre a student at Mass College of pharmacy?? i was just there last weekend on a tour. Im considering going there, but really leaning towards Albany college of pharmacy because travel is a lot easier (they have a parking lot, therefore i can own a car). Basically, im leaning towards albany because itll make snowboarding easier for me (not the only reason, that would just be plain stupid of me, but it weighs very heavilly.). Gleb, how do you manage? Boston is a much nicer campus, all high-tech stuff, and the professors seem much better too. but im just afraid i might get stuck in the city way too much.
  2. woah... i didnt even realize that was a Pogo! me! now that i see it, i even recognize the slightly overgrown deck that appears in many of their pictures. normally im against stomp pads, they take away from the beauty of the board, but this stomp pad is pimpin:cool:
  3. Clearly none of you have heard "Cameltoe" that played on popular radio stations about two or three years back. It is the worst song ever, title, meaning, melody, vocals, instrumentals, all terrible. Of course, people loved it. ahh, the joys of modern music.
  4. I ride more modern burton boots. These boots look very simmilar to the more modern models, shells are practically the same, but with shorter cuffs. Just to give you a warning, they are infamous for cracking. My Burtons havnt broken on me yet, but im ganna get a replacement pair soon just in case. other than that, burton makes excellent performance boots. Just an estimate, the boiler would prabably be more of a stiff race boot, while the freecarve would be a softer freecarving boot. they are not intec compatible, so you wont be able to use them with step ins. Again, the shells are very simmilar, id almost say identical, but shorter and from that i can tell you: the boots are narrow, very narrow. Not too narrow for me, but if youve got wide feet youll need them punched out. as for the 3 buckles... lighter, smaller riders seem to prefer this. if youre a big person, youll probably prefer a larger, 4 buckle cuff. It gives more support and allows for less ankle movement. But thats more of a personal preference, like cant and lift on your bindings. My conclusion: i think youd enjoy these boots, but there are other boots out there that might suit your needs better.
  5. very nice collection. Im glad you found this site alright! transworld snowboarding is not the place for this post. Most of them barely even know a snowboard from those plastic toys they sell at Walmart. Some of those boards youve got look like great fun to ride, i could never collect them. id find myself taking them up to find out exactly why they didnt catch on! especially the psychedellic painted dreadlocks and reefers.
  6. thanks for the tip. My friend seemed to like it... and she was riding like any other skidder on the mountain on her FIRST TIME EVER! must be great. I'll look into it this summer.
  7. started at the end of '04, intent on riding alpine. I wasnt sure it was even still around then but i knew I wanted the speed and riding quality alpine boards offered and I was big on control, so hardboots made sense as well. It took me a while to get the hang of boarding, but by the next season i felt confident enough to make the switch over to a carving setup (although it was a bit unconventional: a pogo longboard, phiokka bindings and burton wind boots on east coast granular and ice). I spent my summer searching the web for all kinds of snowboards, came across pogo, donek, bomber, catek, virus, and all those other brands i forgot to mention and fell in love with the Longboard model. I caught on pretty quick, thanks mostly to the surprising easy alpine-like handling of the longboard and am looking forward to ripping the overdose next season. After experiencing true carving, my reasons for alpine riding still stand: fast carving is way too much fun to pass up for a squishy boot and a rail.
  8. These kinda boards are very hard to part with, good luck finding some! i absolutely love mine, and ive seen the awesome conversion power boards like this have. If you get your friends on one, they wont ever want off. ever.
  9. hold on, theres another hardboot on the way. Deeluxe will have a model equipped with metal buckles, not the cheap looking plastic ones. Nice improvement! (taken from the SES photo album http://www.alpinecarving.com/ses06/fri/)
  10. its not like your mountain is ganna get overrun with park monkeys if you post in this forum. we could scheduel a hardboot takeover, though!
  11. Royal Mountain is pretty nice. Not perfect, but i like it. Small crowds, quick lift, either short lines or no lines, and the grooming is most excellent. I dont think i remember an icy day all season, even after all that rain we had. It was the bigger places, like West Mountain that got the ice. On top of that, you wont have to ride with annoying park monkeys, the local park monkeys almost never use the lift for two reasons: 1, theyre mostly fatasses who sit all day (and not your normal sit for ten minutes like most park monkeys kind of sit... i mean the sit so long that you can still see the imprints of their asses after the spring thaw kind of sit) 2, when they finally get around to doing a trick, they either walk back up (the "park" is about the size of an average living room) or head back to the lodge. the catch: the runs are fairly narrow. easilly fixed with a more agressive style and a shorter board.
  12. The scary thing is, they wouldnt have put a sign like that there if it wasnt completely necesary. What kind of sick freaks go to that mountain?
  13. he posted a thread about it. http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?t=11108 I guess now that he's got his creepy custom coiler, he has no need for puny viruses!
  14. Dave! where did you get that Bud Light board? we have (had?) one here at the royal mountain rental shop... one of my friends was eying it but the rental shop owner was ganna charge $200 for it and i knew darn well that he didnt have to pay a dime, it was a promotional board, so we didnt buy it.
  15. Winters been over here for about a month:angryfire I was robbed! this was like, the worst season NY has seen in years. so... much... rain...:( Wierd thing is, we had snow on Halloween. By thanksgiving we had the most snow we ever got the whole season. After christmas it all went downhill. And i was hoping for a generous winter! (especially since i just got a longboard) Hopefully next season will be better. and if it isnt, it'll give me an excuse to break in the overdose!
  16. length of board vs your size isnt as important with a carving board. if youre 120 pounds riding a 170 and skidding/ ploughing, youre ganna get really tired really fast. however, carving causes much less friction and a longer board isnt too much more fatiguing to carve. The main difference in size is stability vs sharper turning. a short board can turn much sharper than a longer board, while a longer board is more stable at high speed. but for a beginner, a long board is cumbersome and difficult to manuver, so id definately go with the 158. and if youve got crowds and narrow runs, short boards are usefull too. its nice to see youre growing a quiver, because due to differences in runs, crowds, conditions, and riding styles, it really is impossible to get one board to do it all (although the pogo longboard is pretty close!)
  17. the sad thing is, if i put them up for sale i dont think id get over $200 each here :(
  18. you dont use any of the mountain anyway, i dont even think most of them have seen the peak!
  19. how little we are willing to pay for a used alpine board, they wouldnt even waste their time with us and our gear would be safe.
  20. might be hard to find... have you considered newer bindings drilled into the board? not sure if itll work, the more mechanically inclined might be all over this soon though.
  21. gahhhh! i just spent all my new board funds on another pogo! not fair. First you go and make everyone else's expensive boards look whimpy with your GrummReaper and now this? a marked down phantom... i didnt think those existed!
  22. Bravo! another reason to visit Jiminy. Im not a regular there, but i go as often as i can. I'll be there much more next season. My personal favorite run on earth so far is their very own fox run... not the best for carving, but something about the pitch makes it more fun than anything ive ever ridden.
  23. enjoy your break. you guys deserve it.
