  1. Hugh, Can you get those stickers that allow you to run in the HOV lane if you run Bio Diesel in that thing? Does the truck smell like a Japanese restaurant if I follow you down the road? :p What's involved in "brewing" biodiesel? Do you steal filters from work to get the crud out of the oil?
  2. IMO, if you paid Surefoot $190 for their custom insoles, they should do whatever is necessary to make the boot fit properly. That would include any shims to get rid of heel slop. That said, Conform'able liners are great. They'll probably hurt a lot the first few days, but then be terrific. I've used Thermoflex liners before, but never in Head boots. They'll probably be fine, but I like the Head liners so far.
  3. Snow|3oarder, Before you go that route, I'd recommend getting Surefoot or someone to make you a custom footbed. That should be able to take up some of the heel slop you have, and if you have Surefoot do the work, they'll also do any additional work necessary to get the boots to fit right. Surefoot loves to sell Conform'able liners so if you do end up taking that route, they'll be happy to help you. The Conformable liners would fit fine in your Stratos Pros since both the Head liner and the Sidis one have traditional tongues. I haven't tried it, but my suspicion is that the Conform'ables will make your boots feel stiffer overall. If you go that route, let us know what you think of the results. I'm very happy with my Head boots with Surefoot insoles in them. There's a Surefoot in NYC.
  4. Helvetico, are you swiss in the US or swiss in Suisse? If in the US, Kenny the Marine has good advice. If you're in Europe, then look for the Head boots and get them stretched.
  5. Ken, Try a good cobbler. They should be able to do leather work and sew other heavy-duty materials. You'll probably need to bring them whatever material (other than leather) that you need them to work with, but they'll be able to deal with it.
  6. OK, this has kinda become the joke thread. *If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.* *(Hardly seems worth it.)* If you farted consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.* (Now that's more like it!)* The human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out to the body to squirt blood 30 feet.* (O.M.G.!)* A pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes.* (In my next life, I want to be a pig.)* A cockroach will live nine days without its head before it starves to death! The female initiates sex by ripping the male's head off.** ("Honey, I'm home. What the....?!")** The flea can jump 350 times its body length. It's like a human jumping the length of a football field.** (30 minutes..lucky pig! Can you imagine?)** The catfish has over 27,000 taste buds.** (What could be so tasty on the bottom of a pond?**)** Some lions mate over 50 times a day.** (I still want to be a pig in my next life...quality over quantity)** Butterflies taste with their feet.** (Something I always wanted to know.)** The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue.** (Hmmmmmm......)** Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people.** (If you're ambidextrous, do you split the difference?)** Elephants are the only animals that cannot jump.** (okay, so that would be a good thing)** A cat's urine glows under a black light.** (I wonder who was paid to figure that out?)** An ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain.** (I know some people like that.)** Starfish have no brains.** (I know some people like that too.)** Polar bears are left-handed.** (If they switch, they'll live a lot longer)** Humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure.** (What about that pig??)* Now that you've smiled at least once, it's your** turn to spread these crazy facts and send this to** someone you want to bring a smile to (maybe** even a chuckle)...In other words, send it to** everyone*
  7. Heat fit them with a toe cap. All should be well. Although mine fit pretty well before the heating. My latest issues are with the screws that hold the toe piece on the sole. They keep coming out. I put larger ones in and ground them off inside. Hopefully that'll help. Also the screws that hold the tongue to the boot come off. I've got new ones on there now. Otherwise pretty darn good boots.

  9. Try Elite Feet at Squaw. They have this year's boots in stock in most sizes. Talk to Christian or Brian (Brian's a carver, Christian owns the place). Phone is 530-581-6637.
  10. There's lots of good information in The Welcome Center and on The Carver's Almanac. Welcome to a new addiction. Its great.
  11. If the Burtons will accept Intec heels, you might consider converting to step-ins. For us old farts who don't like to bend down / sit down when putting the board on, its a huge benefit. You'll also need step-in receivers for your new TD's, but you'll be happy. I don't know anything about that board so I can't weigh in, but if you liked it, then keep riding it. Glad to hear you wear armour. Mine saved me this weekend when I got slammed hard. Back protectors rule!
  12. I have a Transpack. It holds a fair amount of stuff, has decent straps and is easy to carry. Clever design too.
  13. When my edges need more work than I'm able/willing to put into them. And to get some structure back in the base for the spring.
  14. Sinecure

    XC Expansion

Would the carving community be able to generate enough support to directly help an Alpine team? Would USSA allow that? Are in-kind donations of equipment or travel expenses OK? Other ideas?
  15. That's not what this stuff purports to be. This gets hard instantly, then returns to a softer state after the impact.
  16. Seth was sitting way back on the straights, especially during qualifying. I was really surprised.
  17. There are vids on the nbcolympics.com site. But not until the day after the event. She grabbed on the 2nd to last jump to style the jump and show the crowd how psyched she was. She crashed which gave the other girl a chance to catch up and pass her. Oh well. That's SBX.
  18. The fat chick in my office was talking about SBX today! We'd never discussed boarding before but I was able to communicate in 10 seconds the kind of board I ride. First time for that! This weekend we're all going to get lift line comments about "hey, that's one of those Snowboardcross boards isn't it?" Fin better get back to the shop from SES soon because this is the only place around where people can actually buy stuff. That TV coverage will likely do more for getting new people into our sport than all our efforts combined. I'd have rooted for the hardbooter to win if he hadn't been racing against Seth. Did you see the interview with him? I love when nice guys finish first and make us look good.
  19. If you didn't already know, there's going to be a camp before Nationals. The coaching crew looks awesome. Anton Pogue Lisa Kosglow Pete Thorndike Jeff Greenwood (teaching SBX) Travis McLain Ian Price For the price of admission you can train gates, sbx and pipe/fs - you choose. Plus Donek demo boards. This looks like fun. If you do a search on BOL for camps with Lisa and Anton you'll get some great endorsements. Next Level Camp Website Seems like a great way to kick off the week of USASA Nationals.
  20. That would be Jasey-Jay Anderson. Lots of talk on here about him. Lots of other riders on F2 Gear (especially the Austrians). Seth Wescott was on a Dynastar snowboard. It was interesting how the IOC must prohibit logos on stuff. In earlier footage Seth had a big Dynastar logo on the top of his board. In comp, it wasn't there. Same with helmets.
  21. Do you still have boots that fit reasonably well? If so, just demo skis when you want to. I've done this a few times this season and it works great. It is cheaper than buying stuff and I get to try all sorts of cool skis.
  22. Jack, did you notice in the interview with Seth when they showed his Mom and Sister? His sister had a Sugarloaf flag she was waving. Enjoy the moment. Awesome race! What a blast to watch all the coverage they had today.
  23. Look at the Donek Axis or maybe Prior 4WD (or maybe even an ATV which is a bit wider than 4WD). Call Sean at Donek and ask what he suggests, he's great for that stuff. He may also have a mold for a wider Axis if necessary for your war canoe feet. You won't find snowboard hard boots for that size foot so you are definitely going to want Bomber or Catek bindings with traditional bails. Both are basically bomb-proof. You can search the threads on here for comparisons of the pros/cons of each.
  24. I don't climb, but we've had 2 birthday parties for the kids at indoor climbing gyms, and a number of their friends have done the same. Build a room to host b-day parties if you do it. Sell "goodie bags" with the party package that include a nalgene bottle with a biner, t-shirt and some other crap inside.
  25. Yeah, I know the title sounds like the title of the 100's of spams we all get each day. But this is different. Its been discussed on here before, but I tried searching and couldn't find the thread. Plus there's new news here. Apparently the US Ski Team has new speed suits with this stuff actually in there in the forearms and shins. It is some space-age material that is flexible until it is impacted, then it gets hard for as long as the impact lasts, then returns to flexible. Sounds really cool. Can I get a hat/beanie/toque made of this stuff? How about some shorts/butt pad? Think of the potential applications. Here's the text of the article: Link to article in New Scientist
