  1. I've still got this sitting in my garage. Needs a good home. http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=26101
  2. Lazy Bastard! You asked. Now go make them for us other lazy bastard. Especially this particular lazy bastard who is goofy and just learned that I need a new left hip. I'm not in any hurry to get the hip, but in the meantime, it is nearly impossible to bend down and get myself in and out of soft boot strap bindings (even Flows) or hard boot bail bindings. I wore out my alu heel receivers with fintecs last season so I guess I need to buy steel receivers rather than wait for SI SW's. Keep up the good work you lazy bastard.

    dear Quebec

Settle down Frances. Come on. Relax a little. Bob's just ranting because there's no snow and he has nothing to keep him distracted/busy. Go put your speedo on and enjoy some poutine - you'll be much happier. And I'm sure you can come up with some jokes/ribbing for your friends south of the border. Did you know the toothbrush was invented in Maine? Yep, if it had been invented anywhere else, it would be called a teethbrush.
  4. I'd be very surprised if you could pull this off safely and effectively. By the time you remove enough material, you're going to have a very sketchy heel back there. If your goal is to try hardbooting on the cheap, then get some non step-in bindings. They'll work fine with your ski boots, just have a longer sole length than a pair of SB specific hard boots. Or find someone close buy with some gear they'll let you try out. Given the critical safety nature of staying attached to your board, I wouldn't want to risk my leg(s) with some bastardized boot set up.
  5. Maybe this has been discussed and I missed it. But is there some reason why we can't have TD3 Sidewinder Step-In bindings? Yes, I am too old/lazy/weak to bend down and clip in. Not really, but I love the convenience of remote SI release, with the option to paddle along a flat, then step in and continue riding while still moving.
  6. Chuck Norris owns a pair of Lowell Hart pajamas.
  7. When Lowell rides, he never inclines his body toward the slope. The hill tilts up to meet him.
  8. Well here's a surprise. New PSIA/AASI magazine and catalog arrived today in the mail. In the catalog there's a special feature on Lowell Hart. Pictured in hard boots no less.
  9. I have a better scan of that, but BOL won't let me upload a 2MB file. Also have it in PDF format. Edit: OK. Let's try this. I uploaded the full sized picture to another site and I'll try linking it here.
  10. I hadn't noticed this thread. But my catalog arrived in the mailbox today. Leafing through and whoa!!!
  11. Snowlerblades! Not that there's anything wrong with that. If you can rock them like Saucerboy McConkey did, more power to you: Yes, your boots will work with those bindings. And at one point, I think the snowlerblader community actually promoted Raichle boots as the boot of choice. Last season at the Pain McShlonkey Classic at Squaw they held a Chinese Downhill on snowlerblades. Pro skier Cody Townsend won it - but he's a better skier than you (and me). If you do decide to try them, be sure to announce at the top of each run that you are "going to rip the $hit out of this run" and blade up to random people to remind them that you are "the best snowlerblader on this mountain." GNAR the movie had some great snowlerblading in it. Trailer: http://vimeo.com/17787406 Full movie (totally worth watching): http://unofficialnetworks.com/gnar/
  12. I have a pair of Arcteryx Theta LT pants, size XL regular length that I bought a couple years ago. I haven't worn them too much and they're in good condition, but I have modified them. These pants are great with the full side zips and gore-tex construction, but they don't have enough pockets. So I had a seamstress make two cargo pockets on the thighs out of heavy duty cordura. Also, there's a small cut in the pants, right next to one of the pockets. Other than that, just a couple little scuffs. I have another pair of these pants that I've probably worn for 150 days (I found out that the Size L short fits me much better than XL). I recently got those repaired with a small gore-tex patch kit that I picked up off Amazon for a few bucks. It would be easy to cut a patch to fit and iron it on. You can see the small cut, along with a little dirt, in the pictures below. In the photo the pockets appear to be a different color. This isn't nearly as noticeable in real life. They are both black. If interested, make me an offer. PM or email. Sinecure
  13. This guy is not anything like Shane. He's not inventing anything new, he's not pushing the envelope in terms of what/where people climb (just doing the same stuff with more danger) and he's not even entertaining. And he definitely shouldn't be a role model for anyone.
  14. Impaler? Fess Up? (fessup) Wassup?
  15. He's very impressive. It is sad that he won't be around too much longer as long as he keeps up free soloing. Sorry to be sick/morbid, but every time I see that guy, that's all I can think about. Climbing doesn't need any more dead legends.
  16. You'll get lots of opinions on which is the best resort for carving. Everything from Tahoe Donner (you'll laugh when you see it) to Squaw and Kirkwood. There's a pretty regular crew of carvers that hang out at Mt. Rose and also at Kirkwood. Add in Squaw and you've got most things covered. Northstar would be good for carving if it weren't for the constant human slalom, especially on weekends. Drive time from PA is going to depend on when you leave. I live close to there and I've had it take anywhere from 3 hours to 8 hours. Typically on a Friday afternoon, you're looking at 4-6, depending on traffic and weather. There's a Tahoe Carvers group on FB, and there's a yahoo group called ski pals that's good for ride shares. http://www.snowpals.org/ will get you to their page and a link to the yahoo group. I think there are also some Stanford resources for student skiing. My suggestion is consider K-wood for day trips and some combination of Squaw (also owns Alpine now) and Rose for weekend trips. I don't think the Stanford Alpine Chalet is actually geared toward students any more, but if you can get a deal on staying there, it's a pretty nice place right by the hill (Alpine). Pray for another long season. And you can probably count on me for rideshare offers many weekends this season.
  17. All that board porn all around you and you didn't come back with pictures. This trip report is useless without pics. Especially pics of you fondling Shred's mistress.
  18. There's really no need to sharpen the edges on a powder ski. I have some rockered pow skis with flat camber and some reverse sidecut, reverse camber powder skis. They are super fun to ski. These look like they'll be a blast to ski, although even more of a one-trick pony than my reverse/reverse skis. I bet you can make some awesomely fast, quick turns in deep pow on them. And DPS makes some seriously sweet skis.
  19. I'd PM Bola about your experience, with as many details as possible. If I owned the shop, I'd want to know what caused such a reaction from a customer. If it was Bola who was rude to you...well then???
  20. I think his point was that you're going to be sucking air like Darth Vader. But that thing looks awesome! If it were cheap, it would be perfect for dress-up day. Total storm-trooper look. Sweet!
  21. May be the best post on a subject that gets beaten like the proverbial deceased mustang every year. Thanks for posting this.
  22. Thanks. But with Fintecs, I wore right through a set of aluminum ones.
  23. TD1? TD2? TD3? You want a whole binding? Just a base plate? Cant plate? WTF? Think before you post.
  24. I'd be fogged up inside of 2 minutes in that thing unless is was so freakin cold that I didn't want to go outside. Looks good for Scotland, the UP or maybe northern Russia. Heck, I can't even ride with my earflaps on my helmet in CA.
  25. I'll order a new pair if I can't find someone with a spare set they're looking to get rid of. But I figured I'd try the recycle route first. My old aluminum blocks are all worn out and getting dangerous. Time to replace them. Anyone have a set?
