trent Posted December 25, 2013 Report Share Posted December 25, 2013 (edited) sorry for not setting this up sooner. i'll pretty up this post after all the santa craziness calms down. for now, book the vacation day / sick day / national holiday. when: weds, jan 15, 2014 9:30 - ? where: afton alps www.aftonalps.com cost: $32 for a lift ticket ($35* if you don't sign up for "preferred program"), plus any food you purchase. as usual, make sure you've used your fixodent that morning - there will be chewy, sticky, pull-out-your-teeth goodness after lunch. :D who: anyone who likes to see thin, deep lines left in the snow why: because it's epic baby! *afton now has a new system for buying lift tickets. the bad news, is the system is slow. requires more info, and new to them (see pict below). the good news, is if you sign up for the "preferred program" you only have to go through it once, and you'll save money. you get 10% off the first visit, and $10 off subsequent visits. and now that they scan your lift ticket, you can go straight to the chairs for the rest of the year. once they scan your ticket, they'll charge your credit card for that day, making a "ka-ching" sound. (i haven't heard it yet, but the kids passes make a flintstones sound like when they were taking off in their cars). see you in a couple weeks. -trent ps - hill 7 is now 3 huge jumps! probably no carving there this year..... but i'm sure we could chant "greg! greg! greg!" and see someone get big air on plates. We've been to Afton twice this year (yesterday was as good as it gets. Perfect snow conditions, and every lift open.), and each time they've had some serious trouble with ticketing. Fortunately we arrived pre-open and didn't have any issues, but others in our party, arriving around 10:30, waited over an hour in-line for lift tickets/passes. The Epic/Preferred thing is pretty sweet (I know I rode 40 lifts, and covered 9816 vertical! Still not sure what the 'points' are for, though.), but the system seems to have the staff baffled a bit. Okay, a lot. Anyway, probably not an issue on a Wednesday, non-holiday morning, but just FYI if you haven't dealt with this yet. I like the improvements - new signage, the missing "toll-booths" & employees in bright coloured jackets routing traffic. Lighting was flat, but the snow conditions looked pretty carvey. Wednesday should be a fun day for the MES! My intent was to apply for the "preferred" program, for first access to the lift come MES day, but it was explained to me that the actual pass "Card" would arrive by mail in 7 days. Drat. The fat bike has been pulling pretty strong lately. It is ready to go with a quick change of clothes. My boards still have storage wax and no bindings. We'll see. Essentially, it doesn't take any more time to sign-up than it does to purchase a single-day. You have to stay in the same line, regardless. Was out last Friday and with the preferred... $22. All day.
