Allee
Powder Magazine's Ski Town Throwdown on Facebook - Whitefish takes out Whistler in the first round! Good job to the Whitefish locals ... guess the secret's out now! http://missoulian.com/news/state-and-regional/magazine-s-ski-town-throwdown-pits-whitefish-vs-whistler/article_87b3d0ee-2df3-11e2-aae3-001a4bcf887a.html Shame you're going to get buried by the Red Mountain crew in Round 2 :), but then I guess we can all get back to watching the snow pile up. johnasmo
Village is bare, but summit has about two feet. Backside maybe 2.5 feet. Decent to mid mountain, then things get sketchy. With no concern for the PBR board, I continued until I scrapped to a halt about 200 vertical from the village.
johnasmo
Im looking into WTF Tee shirts. Any interest? I'd take one (size L). It'd be a bummer to get mentioned in Carving Magazine and then not have an event tee this year.

west carven
howdy all opening day!!! only backside open. over a half hour wait on chair 7. did a few runs and called it. light snow all morning with good vis. a good foot of pow off the groom, nice soft snow. i downloaded on chair 1 and as i got to the bottom i noticed people were coming down russ street, oh well. was a good day to take it easy and get the muscle memory to remember. yesterday snowed alot, but it was only the first layer on chair 6, still lots of grass showing thru. needs about 4 feet of snow to open the whole mountain. rode my amp5 from 9 till 12... west carven
howdy all didn't expect much today with the little snow we had, but it turned out to be a nice day with the sun trying to peak thru. clouds were moving fast and light fog going in and out, but wasn't too windy. temps were just right, snow is still soft and groomers need to pack it down more. had fun on a new to me f2 157 speed cross with a bomber power plate and my burton three strap bindings. good all mountain pow ride and still carves the groomers. oh yeah, not much people and no lift wait. rode my f2157sc from 9 till 3... Allee
It's forecast to snow right through to Thu for you guys. Sounds like good conditions for opening, hope you're having fun. I won't be down for WTF this year - new job means no vacation - but a group of us are planning Feb long weekend, so I'll see the crew mid Feb. Hopefully Glacier Cyclery will have my mountain bike in by then - if not then I'll be seeing you in March as well.:)
west carven
howdy all missed the early bus up. not the best day, foggy on top most of the morning. started to snow about 1pm. seems like the groomers are not packing the snow down. chair 2 still not open, but heard they'll open it saturday, still see bare ground at the botton. snow is soft and buried my nose on toni matt good thing just as i stopped. hardly anyone up today, no wait at all. first day on the hardboots. rode my rsfp167 from 10 till 3... west carven
howdy all another slow day at work so up to the big. foggy halfway up and pretty thick. it was bumped up when i got there. go by braille till bench run then to lower toni matt and make few turns. pushed it pretty hard and had no problems with my legs. we need a lot more snow and forcast looks good tomorrow and next week. rode my fp157 from 12 till 3:
west carven
howdy all looking at the big this morning durning work and the sun was shinning on it. i had a feeling it must have been good up there, cooler temps and no new snow and yesterdays warmer temps made for a nice firm groomed surface. got on snow about 1pm and it was just as i thought. first good day of carving, snow was fast and had to really turn hard to slow down. would have been a good day for a metal board, but there is still alot of rocks around the mountain. chair 2 will open tomorrow... rode my rsfp167 from 1 till 3:30... west carven
howdy all wow! what a great day. really thick fog that comes and go, but the groomers were as good as its gets. chair 2 was running and eds was good most way down, bottom section lots of rocks. all the links to the lifts are screwed up, if you were here you'ed be like "wtf". did a bunch of laps with johnasmo and angry rick on eds, wish i brought a bigger board. weekend crowds, forcast next three days snow. rode my fp157 from 9 till 1... west carven
howdy all had a feeling i should bring the hardboots cause there was just a trace of snow on the ground here in town, but the snow report said three inches new. had a feeling groomers would be soft so brought the softies, good choice!. groomers looked good, but the off groom snow was the bomb. doing laps down the face to chair 5, sweet butter! one of the funner days, lite fog just on the very top of the big with the sun trying to peak thru all day, very good visibility. snow was good surfy stuff. rode my 154 identity from 9 till 2:30... west carven
howdy all worked in the morning, little cooler, sun trying to break thru, cloud over the big. got on snow about 1pm, snow was all chewed up, packed down, but there was very light powder over a little frozen packed cream from yesterday. not the best conditions, groomers were icy firm and dangerous in spots. forcast looks good for more snow next few days then a little cool down by christmas. crazy holiday crowds the next couple weeks. rode my 154 identity from 1 till 3:30... west carven
howdy all didn't know what board to bring. didn't snow in town, but big mtn snowreport reported three inches new. well, good groomers down low and only a couple inches up high, the off groom a little deeper. still had a-ton-o-fun on the softies. day started out light fog on the topside till noon then clears with a high overcast and had a nice view of glacier park for a little while then starts to snow about 2pm. rode my 154 identity from 9 till 3:30... Allee
Riding some great powder piles in Kimberley this weekend ... sounds like Kimberley/Fernie/Whitefish have been getting the same weather pattern. Plenty more snow in the forecast ... conditions are great for so early in the season. Have fun with those Christmas crowds out there. west carven
howdy all fog in and out and moving fast with some good wind from the north. eds was good in the morning then move to toni matt as fog goes down then moves up so go where it is clear. did not snow overnight, but it started in the morning and dumped just over an inch. the wind from the north made for a chilly chair ride and just as you get on top it just starts to burn, today is one of the colder days so far. kinda flat lighting and small wind blown piles made it an interesting day. pushed it kinda hard and had a blast. crowds were not as bad as i thought it would be. forcast tonight is temps in the single digits and little snow so tomorrow should be really good groomers. rode my fp171 from 9 till 1... west carven
howdy all santa came thru... thanks santa!!! best carving day of this season. merry christmas everyone!!! knew it was going to be epic groomers and it was. brought the smaller board cause thought it was going to be busy, but it wasn't. thought i brought the wrong board, but after riding it i was happy with it. cranking small radius turns and having a ton-o-fun. day started a little foggy then lifted about 1pm then went to lunch then sun comes out about 1:30pm and then stayed on chair 2 and felt warmer and comfortable down low. what an awesome christmas day. as the day unfolded conditions got better and better, wanted to stay longer, but had to make it home for dinner. carving was very good at 3:30pm when i left. kept saying to myself "what an awesome day" and it's christmas day... thanks santa!!!... rode my f2157sc with hardboots from 9 till 3:30... west carven
howdy all some bad news... chair 7 down yesterday, some important motor part. some say few days others say few weeks, who knows. so holiday crowds and weekend warriors all on the frontside made for a really busy day. hasn't snowed too much for awhile just a dusting every day. snow got bumped up fast and it was hard to find safe spaces to link a few turns. this morning fog moving up and down the mountain with light snow. not the best day, but good to be on snow after three days of work. forcast is not much snow the next few days... rode my f2157sc from 9 till 1:30... west carven
howdy all not a bad day considering the crazy holiday crowds. classic big mtn fog halfway up all day. hasn't snow much for over a week and it is showing, rocks are popping up bare grass in small spots, we really need more snow. crappy man made snow down low, but up high it's pretty good. had a fun day and pushed pretty hard. got a cold coming on so not in the best mood. last day of 2012 and today is day 15 on the hill... rode my 160speed from 9 till 3... west carven
howdy all happy new year!!!... didn't go out last night cause i'm coming down with a cold and didn't want to miss riding the first day of the year. hasn't snowed much for a week and the heavy traffic is taking it's toll on the snow, we need a good dump. again, classic big mtn fog from top of chair 2 and up. so it's a few more days before we get our quite mountain back. forcast doesn't look so good, but at lease temps will stay cool. chair 7 was up and running on sunday... rode my 160speed from 9 till 3:30...
