Opening Day Predictions for East Coast

N.C.'s Appalachian Ski, though small, has a new, smotheringly dense snowmaking system and usually tries to get a P.R. jump with early openings.

They're also very efficient at recycling slope melt, and the droughts abated up there somewhat.

No announcement yet, but nighttime temps through next week look promising, so...

p.s. I think this forum's Mellow Yello is a regular up there (?)

Wildcat will get another freak dump next week and they'll scramble to get the lifts turning and we'll be giddy as hell again.

Orange leaves on the trees and 2 feet of fresh. :1luvu:

Heard from the locals yesterday that there were skiers on that 7" at K-Mart. (yesterday's blue light special) Last year Mt. Snow opened first. New management will probably push to try and do it again this year too. Stratton opening day is Nov. 28th (day after turkey day).

What is your definition of "open"?

I rode Mt. Snow today with all of the Jibblets. They just had their discovery area open. They had a few rails, but they also had room enough to just cruise to the bottom. It was not much, but it was a taste. My girls got to take their first runs of the season on their skis as well, so that was nice. Today was hiking, but they are trying to open the lift for tomorrow.

My "taste" of snow has now only made me hungrier. :biggthump

Maggie Valley, N.C., Oct. 27, 2008—Colder temperatures in the Southeast have sparked snowmaking at both Snowshoe and Cataloochee ski areas, with the latter announcing an Oct. 28 opening day. That will make Cataloochee Ski Area, located in the Great Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina, the first ski resort in the Mid-Atlantic region to make snow and open for the season.

And yes, I'll be there riding the WROD
