new board BIG, Tanker or custom?

I'm 5'10" 185 lbs

A skier who recently started Boarding. Have hard boot bindings and boots. But yet to feel as comfortable in them as the soft setup. Riding a hill with lots natural snow 1200cm avg, not any real steeps to speak of. Lots of places to make big turns. My friend often says we make turns for fun not cause we have to. Lots of good powder tree skiing/riding but nothing too tight.

Currently riding a 2000 172 tanker and a burton Frontier 166. My freind who I learned to ride by watching him for ten years. (casi style) Let me ride his 181 supermodel, and I was amazed. So I started looking for something longer. came accross a 172 tanker on ebay and had no idea what is was. So I started doing some research. and bought it great board but longer is better. So here is what i'm considering for a new board.

A New 182 tanker $699 or a custom board built by either Prior or venture ( let me know if there is someone better) Custom board to have dimensions of 300-248-292 180 cm long. the custom board will cost $950-985.

What should I do?

You would have to demo some boards to form your own opinions about them.

Basically, everyone here will recommend what they have, along with the tanker. I think you'll probably get the most bids for a custom Coiler.

If you want complete, non-opinionated advice, from someone who doesn't know what they're talking about, to any extent, I'd be happy to answer some questions.

demoing boards where i am is not possible. I rode a old supermodel i think they are shaped something like this.

298-248-292.

I loved it so i'm not sure about going to

310-255-292

Unless I take to powder riding next like i have to carving on the groomed. Big pow days will be on skis most of the time.

I'm a bit taller then you and a tad lighter. Love my Tanker 192. That's the narrowest/carviest of the Tankers. If you'll use it for carving (softies?) and like higher angles, go 192. If your prefference is for flatter angles, get something wider.

Tanker is great allrounder, but does not excell on ice. You probably don't get much of that at the far Nort, anyways. Trouble with 192s is they are out of production.

Any of the Tankers will be light years ahead of the Supermodel...

Yikes, just bought my 6th supermodel on sale new for $250

at Sierra snowboards...guess all just have to suffer through

next season like I suffered through this one...:eek::nono:

supermodels= great until you've put in time on a tanker, glissade or even a doughboy or grocer. I can't comment on the newer glissades but the older ones are slightly floppy in the front, that's GREAT riding pow but not so much on hard pack.

Doughboy, decent big gun but there's a few things about it that I never got felt totally at home one the board however it's little brother the grocer is quite nice.

Tankers, not super grippy on ICE but otherwise you can carve the **** out of them and they are damn good in pow too, I think the reason we love them so much is that they do everything so well.

If you're willing to consider boards in the low and mid 170 lengths there's a mess of good stuff out there, various burton sticks, never summers, a couple Rides, k2s, f2s and the list goes on. Never Summer is close to my heart they have made and still do make great boards.

Hmm The narrow width the 192 has is not really an issue. I'll be riding either hard boots (upz that are crazy short) or Soft boots with burton 12mm elevators.

But my freinds would think i'm nuts if I bought a 192 somewhere used. They would say it is too long but that would only be until they rode it. there was one ebay last week that didn't sell.

350 for a used 192 that's good deal right.

Why would you care what your friends think in a board?

Shoot, I'm 14, and my friends have said I'm an idiot for wanting a "slope board" (I guess that's what it's called) Another good name was "downhill board," in which case I've replied with "which way do you go on the hill?"

the glissade looks really cool. glad too see someone else building big boards. But too wide for me. Not all big boards are for big guys with big feet. just want lots edge in a design that's easy to handle.

And does anyone know anything about venture snowboards?

Well my freinds already think all thier praise for my new found riding skill has gone to me head. At that's what I thnk they don't comlement anymore. It's just 182 is huge but manageable but 192 and 200 is crazy.

i'm not sure how i'll handle it.

Well, the surefire way to tell that praise goes to your head being forcefed a snowcone immediately following said praise.

I'm not sized as a 14 year old, God forgot to shrink me in the drier.

I'm six feet, one inch, and 200ish pounds, and I'm on a 160, due to the fact that I have to avoid meat gates on the socal variable size slaloms. Sometimes, the gates get up and leave, other times, they squirm around, and don't get up until you ask if they are okay.
