years ago, from folks we deal with at our division down near Dallas I learned the term Big Hat, No Cows I'm trying to avoid becoming GGCR.... Great Gear, Can't Ride This popped into my head as I was walking down a corridor and fell in behind a guy wearing a great cowboy hat, boots and a duster but had no horsey smell. Must have been his dress-up duster.

One thing to mention that I don't think has been brought up here yet is that there is a significant difference in the shrinkage that occurs when the boots/bindings are cold. The plastic boots shrink more than the aluminum bindings and steel bails and so the setup becomes loose when cold. A second thing not yet discussed is the amount of force you need to apply to the toe clamp lever to close it. When I set up my bindings to work at home (in the house) with suitable closing force they would become loose on the hill from boot shrinkage. It took me a while to dial in the setup that worked 'on hill'. Before I was finished with this tweakage I used a thin bungie cord loop on the toe of my boot to hold the lever down. :biggthumpTwo big thumbs up to Fin's micro adjusting bail lugs! On my TD2s you remove one bail attach screw, swing the bail one full turn on the still mounted lug, make one turn on the loose lug, then reattach to sole block. A quick/painless on-the-hill micro adjustment! Just make sure you do not over extend the bail out of the lugs. At least when you are tightening a setup to account for cold shrinkage you are going towards more thread engagement. Easily micro adjust Cateks? Fugetaboutit.

Hey SWriverstone.... is that some WW in your avatar? I cannot tell much from the low res image, but it looks like open cross tube and wheels. You still flying? Here is my son's 1st solo "landing" 8-8-07. Wheels came in handy. 1st and only time he actually needed them.

Straightliners who know what they are doing and can control their trajectory are OK by me. What I strongly object to are punk types that get to speed and then are just along for the white knuckle ride until they slow down enough to assert control again. I think my idea of a straightliner is different from yours. To me a straightliner is someone who isn't doing ANY speed checks or side to side whatever. I did a bit of straightlining myself just recently. From the lift of my local hill I saw a small group of softbooters, one by one, straightline a run I'm very familiar with (the slope our racecourse is set on). They appeared safe and the run was absolutely empty. With them gone, I straightlined it also. The next time I was at the top they were gathered. I watched the 1st 2 push off and straightline again. When they were 1/3 of the way down I pushed off. It felt sooo good to watch them do a doubletake as I blew past them!

Man, Kieran... seeing this makes me feel like such a big wuss! I "broke" my wrist in a fall to concrete while inline skating. I had pain only when I made certain movements, but it was like a lightning bolt shooting up my arm. It turns out that I snapped off the Styloid Process from the end of the Ulna (green line). From now on whenever I talk about MY break... I'm going to show YOUR X-ray and claim it as mine! Heal well and quick!

Instead of WFT'11 on a snowboard I'm going to be attending a different "WTF'11" in Florida. A family of products I designed are spooling up for production at our facility in Melbourne, Florida. I'll be there for a week answering their "WTF are we supposed to do now?" For quick on/off the gizmo they've got is great, no doubt about that. I just wish is wasn't so tall.

I'd like to get a GPS unit that will download history to some of these ski area maps. Something like Garmin 500 or 700 series. Anybody got some gear that is feeling neglected because brand new shiny toys are the current favorites? I'll be glad to help your old toy feel wanted!

So sorry Canuck, but gotta pass on this year's Shredd Fest. my Thule came with a pair of straps and interior tiedown points. I'll have at least a couple pair of skis and 4 boards for my wife and I. EDIT: I'm kind of frustrated with the big honkin' attach mechanism inside the box. It sure is convenient/quick to mount the box to the car-top rack, but those 4 gizmos sure make it tough to use the interior space effectively. I think I'd rather have simple band-clamps like on radiator hoses.

I just bought a roof-top box. Now I wonder how folks keep their gear from getting mangled and beat up. I am thinking about a sheet of 1/4" thick closed cell neoprene foam to lay between stuff. I want a material that won't soak up and hold water. McMaster-Carr has some options for around $40. What do the rest of you guys do?

Hey Gilmore, that Exchanger mask looks like a pretty good product. Where does the air get taken in and exhausted? Since the marketing info says that the intake air goes from <10% RH to about 75% RH I would guess there is mixing of fresh air and exhaled breath.

BlueB... has someone put a target on your back? It sounds sort of draconian to sit you down with a warning letter and a threat of termination without any prior discussion or back-channel rumblings. The higher-up folks that left the organization... were they ticked off about something when they bailed out? The folks that moved up... are they looking to advance themselves at any cost? Hard/Soft issue aside, it does not sound good.
