  1. Steve was right, the snow today was spectacular. First run of the day was a charge down Ptarmigan Bowl and Heep Steep. Twenty two runs later, last run of the day was a charge down Ptarmigan Bowl and Heep Steep. Excellent carving snow all over and lasting all day long. Inspiration, Toni Matt, Larch, Big Ravine, Ed's, Slalom, Hellroaring, all fun. About the only thing left ungroomed was Corkscrew. Now if only we could recall all that praying for snow and stop it from snowing tonight, it would be even better tomorrow. But NOAA says, Ah, No to that. They are forecasting warmer and wetter.
  2. The snow was good today. If it doesn't snow too much tonight, it should be even better tomorrow. Will be stuck working most of Monday; I should have more time on hill Tuesday.
  3. Just made rounds at Hell and the Stube. Can't find anyone. Everyone watching football somewhere? Only Saw Aaron at the end of the day. Allee and Kathy, you still here tomorrow?
  4. Does that include the carver chicks? Calgary is higher than Whitefish, and Lookout Isn't exactly sea level either. Are the girls going to be downtown tonight?
  5. Lunching at Ed and Mully's. No lines.
  6. We had nachos there at 4:15. Looks like we'll be doing the Northern tomorrow night (Sat). Got a house full of guests, so it's not likely we'll make chair two at 9:00 AM, but I'll be looking for you. Haven't hardbooted all week, but just got a new package from Canada, so tomorrow will pry be a carving day.
  7. A good band is at the Northern Fri and Sat. Copper Mountain Band. Mostly country/rock. Will probably be getting out with some visiting guests one of the nights.
  8. 1 part Shoe Goo 1 part Turpentine Step 1: Let sit in a jar for a week to thin the Shoe Goo. Don't rush it. Shoe Goo is not easy to thin. Step 2: Paint on seams and wear surfaces you want to protect. Repeat 2 or three times.
  9. Cuban, no need for rock boards, at least not for carving on the groomers. I brought out the good stuff weeks ago. Today was carvelicious. Big Ravine has been the go-to run of late.
  10. Time to contact guest/group services and negotiate even steeper discounts for us? Will they have enough snow made to build those X-Games features?
  11. I hope these base depths are riding better than they sound: Snowmass: 36.00 inch Aspen Mountain: 17.00 inch Aspen Highlands: 35.00 inch Buttermilk: 24.00 inch Are those summit or village depths? Hey locals, is there really enough snow to ride in Aspen right now? Still coming, but hoping the next 3 weeks add a few more FEET of snow to those totals.
  12. Either to Creston and down to US 2 if you like more miles in the US, or through Cranbrook to US 93 if you want to stay on Canadian roads longer. Looks like similar mileage. I've never been beyond Troy on US 2, so only know that Cranbrook to Whitefish is easy (no nasty passes, good plowing). As for the one piece, it's mandatory.
  13. So it's finally snowing? Can leave rock boards at home?
  14. Sunny and warm, spring-like conditions again. The carving was good in the AM. Got pretty soft in the PM. WTF'ers, don't forget to wear your onezies. If not here, where else will you wear them?
  15. Went to Fernie Saturday. Not deep, but 100% of lifts were running, and most terrain was open. Might have to do it again next weekend. The Big is still on hold waiting for weather, but Sunday was sunny. Tons of people were hiking it, but Big Face still had good untracked lines. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/rHCkNixEqzI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  16. Guess it's Fernie again tomorrow. Good thing I bought the "Ski More" card last weekend. Oh well, I'm not too broke up about it; more powder runs for us hikers. Snow's almost two feet deep up there, wussies. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/qfvyNviVCsM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  17. It's hard to keep this guy down. Government officials hoping a land swap of public land for private land will result in the privatization of Jesus. Hard to believe that won't cause a stir too; if there are justifications for chopping up public lands for private use, it's hard to believe that religion is one of them. They should make this about jobs, the economy, or recreation... Maybe open a Jesus Cafe up there.
  18. Ha ha, that is me is me going for a swim in the yellow sharpie suit (aka toxic Elvis suit). Felt like I made it farther that time, but I guess not. All dried out now and ready to blind people for another season. Less than a week 'til opening and there's only a couple of feet at the summit. Looks like a back-side only opener this year. Went to Fernie yesterday; they've had around 100 inches so far, enough for 30+ settled in most of Lizard bowl. Had fun; might have to go there again next weekend if the sky doesn't open up soon. (Lizard bowl from Bear lift)
  19. Was gonna settle for stills, but clearly I have too much time on my hands. I gotta stop carrying a camera around; darn these pocket cameras. If it would just SNOW, I'd be too busy for this! Seems like I do 80% of my videos in the shoulder seasons. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5oCdkTefo5U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  20. Neil, post here when you come to town. Someone will be hardbooting nearly every day, we can hook up on the slopes and then have a drink at the Hellroaring or the 'Stube. If you're still here evening of the 25th, there will be roller derby in Kalispell. Just another aspect of the Montucky life. E.g. pics from last Saturday: Hike and ride (job #1). Beer Pong (while not really watching Griz football). Roller Derby. Dance 'til wee hours (with the young and beautiful set at Crush)
  21. One inch at a time. Getting deeper. One inch at a time. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Hx43bi5gsIk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Guess that's enough video blogging for one week. I've jacked this thread and made it John's video blog lately.
  22. Whoa. Head rush. Bizarre-o-land time warp. TheHouse.com has new old stock Factory Prime asym 159s for $269.95. Both regular and goofy. Not that I want one, but I didn't wake up this morning expecting to see that. http://www.the-house.com/9859btfpzz-burton-snowboards.html
  23. Yeah, too much sun for Whitefish. Even when I think it's finally going to storm and I head up, the sun comes out. Happened Tuesday: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Mx3jLBKKbSA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Picked up a couple inches at the house last night; I'll check out out. Starting to feel like Colorado or Utah -- snow at night, clear days -- but accumulating in inches instead of feet; this is going to take forever...
