  1. this is what happens when a juvenile (read: a young inkaholic) encounters drifts along the side of a groomer. while he's technically not carving, he is on an alpine board. while the old inkaholic hasn't done a backflip on plates in a while (notice I only said plates), we still get to see 360's on a near weekly basis.

how did monkey-boy do yesterday with the new kicks? like ink said, no video shot. I will post the link once I get it from K
  3. no 'tude meant, just saying I doubt most people here have had the opportunity to try multiple brands of boots.

anticipate being on the road bike Saturday, @ Lovey on Sunday
  5. Arne is riding a newer Proton (black/gold/white)
  6. I found my 177cm Coiler AM to be more versatile in all conditions than my old 169cm Prior 4x4 (4x4 was the previous version of the 4wd). I demoed a 179cm Prior 4wd prior to ordering my Coiler. I liked the 4wd, but still purchased and prefered the Coiler AM.
  7. this is intriguing. i'm out for this Saturday. ping me offline and let's coordinate schedules

you're welcome. by tipping the board on edge and riding the sidecut, you develop a baseline. once you start driving it and moving around on the board you can see/feel the "value" of your input.

185cm Oldenbürg, 19.1cm waist, 15m SCR 182 Coiler Monster, 20cm waist, 14/15m SCR If it's soft, 192cm Tanker Maybe Coiler RC-T or AM-T if you would prefer... It's not out of my to swing by the house and pick you up, so it always an option
  14. maybe they purchase their gear from yyzcanuck, who only sells Deeluxe... maybe they purchased Deeluxe because they were on sale... maybe they have a narrow foot, which is better suited to the Deeluxe shell... maybe they bought their boots used, and considering that Raichle/Deeluxe boots saturated the market prior to Head coming to the scene in 2005(?), you are more likely to find used Raichle/Deeluxe boots... maybe they purchased Deeluxe boots without ever having tried on, let alone ridden another manufacturer's boot... :) The last time I did a shell fit on Deeluxe boots, my foot spanned the width of the shell with no side-to-side movement, now add a liner and I would be in agony in a matter of seconds. I wear HSP's because they are the widest last that I have found and I still need to have them stretched. That said, I have to be cautious that I don't drive my back knee into the snow on every toeside turn that I make. Part of it is I drive my knees hard and flex the boots like crazy, the other part is I tip the board high on edge, which brings my knees closer to the snow.
  15. Or you could learn to drive your knees, or incorporate a BTS kit, or do the lower shell mod described here. :) You asked "What boot do you ride?", not what boot and why.

have fun, i'm still in NM...
  17. pcdenver's review from the same thread
  18. Here is a re-post of my VSR review from the LCI '09-'10 thread in the Video section The flex index on my board is 6.8 + 6.
  19. I concur that the 182 Monster is an extremely versatile board. The taper created by the 14/15m SCR makes the board very stable at speed. The way in which Bruce has softened the flex pattern at the back foot allows you to ride neutral throughout the turn and make a nice large radius turn or shift your weight back ever so slightly, decamber the tail more, and the board makes a decreasing radius turn. Flex on my 182 is 6.4 + 6.
  20. i'm an elitist web carver. luckily i was able to shell out big bucks for a fancy-schmancy custom metal board and even more for private lessons on a private hill prior to that video being shot, otherwise i might have embarrassed myself. anyone know where i can get a custom roof rack built to fit my new Mercedes G55 AMG?:p
  21. it may be cold, but at least it's windy

very cool! what do you have a hankerin' to ride? (length/SCR/waist width...) If I don't have it, we'll find it or something close Might be able to get my hands on a 177 Coiler AMT or 180 RC T, both built for a 180lb rider, if I ask nicely... (i.e. with bourbon/scotch in hand)
  24. 173cm VSR: Likes to be ridden hard. Rides longer than it is. Never ran out of edge. Turn shapes are unlimited. Can ride race style or surf style with awesome performance or just tip it from edge-to-edge. Tail is significantly stiffer and more poppy than the Monster - my fat ass was catching air during transitions. My back leg got a lot more of a workout than it is used to because of the tail stiffness. pcdenver and I were killin' Richards & Switchback yesterday then Richards & Roulette today. No issues with the the stair-steps or rollers. Conditions were decent with chunky spots, bullet proof spots, and man-made spots. Lay hard into a carve, go over a roller, apex in the crap, the board wouldn't even shudder. The VSR has the performance of a metal board with the snap of a glass board. Even though the VSR is meant to be a freecarve board, it would run slalom gates with no issues. Not as stable at higher speeds as the Monster; well no sh!t, it has less taper. I'll have to check with the mad scientist and see what the sidecut radii are again (edit: SCR 9.9m/12.7m/12.0m). :o My 173 was turning significantly tighter than pc's 177 with me just tipping it and pc driving the piss out of his. PC will have to post his radii specs. VSR and Monster are night-n-day different; a perfect balance for each other... I think I have found my quiver in these two boards. I can't believe I just said that... Bruce - you are a f@#king genius.
