  1. Got home yesterday from Sunday River. Haven't seen TV since last Saturday. I sit down tonight and see the storm coming in. Saturday will be ugly, but natural snow Sunday Monday and through the week. Come one, come all Post, if you think you are heading to Blue anytime over the next several days. 10- day forecast looks to stay below freezing until Thursday, so hopefully the snow will hold up and groom well clear into next weekend. We*** don't get the good stuff too often or for extended cold spells so....... Grease up those pigs and lets make some turns. Hope to see some folks out there. Greg ***"We" refers to those of us who live in the Mid Atlantic snow region who get good snow consistency almost never. We can feel each others' pain when looking at dumps in CA, CO and wherever else. They mock us and tell us that "boilerplate" isn't real, it's all in our head. HA!!!!! It's real and it hurts;) Back to MA snow consistency (IT), at times we hate it, we love it, we appreciate it, we despise it, but truth be told, IT makes us better riders and helps us hold our own. At the same time, I would love to head west and ride with a guy who knows his local mountain and shows you how to optimize it. Hell, if I lived there, I wouldn't believe in fairy tales either. One last message, challenge yourself to visit a resort in some far off land from the Mid Atlantic within the next 5 years. It will rejuvenate you. Good to be home
  2. seek other steep carvable runs Got back yesterday from quick 3 day jaunt to Sunday River, ME with a friend who had never been out of PA to ride. Great 3 days and Day 3 was just the cherry on top that made it my favorite snowboard trip of all time. Spent Day 1 exploring and relearning the mountain. Day 2, optimizing runs found on Day 1, plus it was warmer at minus 8 F Day 3 Soft snow, cranking out runs and continuing to eyeball the run I had been watching for 3 days. they had been making blowing snow on it and huge whalebacks, so I wasnt interested. Day 3 it was groomed I guess as well as it could be. Heading back to the lodge and tell the guy I am there with, I gotta hit one more run before we leave. He says have at it, I will wait here for you. The lift ride up show the rollers, ruts, ice , small whaleback and bump fields on each side. I know if I go down it and show any semblance of carving, it would be my steepest carving run to date. I have done steeper in softies, and some close in HB's, but with eveything going on on this slope, it made it that much more exciting for me. I get to the top, exit left. Clip in, shallow turns over the first few introductory whalebacks, then it drops in. I sideslip the first handful of turns, then pick my spot tilt to toeside, arc#1, tilt to heelside, arc #2, I link a few more then lose an edge. Back up sideslip a few while still in the sunshiny top part, I tilt again just before the steepest section (biggest shadowy part), and back into a rhythm and proceed to link the rest of WHITE HEAT to the bottom except for one small hiccup. The turns I made on this run were the meatiest ones I have ever made. I could feel the force of the mountain pushing back against me and I was leaving gargantua-ruts. No matter how hard I pushed tht edge into the mountain, it held and made this loud gouging noise, but not that irritating east coast boilerplate noise. Such a great sensation!!! Boston Globe Don't be deterred by the signs warning you that a fall on this trail could be fatal. Nor by the fact that as you enter White Heat you can't see the pitch of the slope or the condition of the surface. This run at Maine's Sunday River is purported to be the steepest and longest in New England. Though it does not look it from the chairlift that rises over the face, White Heat clearly has more than the average pitch of the other mountains in the area. Other sources say 70% grade Whether it is the steepest or isnt, I can sure say it got my blood flowing and jacked my adrenaline enough to fuel me the 8 hour drive home. The pics and vids dont do it justice, but tis one exhilerating slope. I know the skillset of many on BOL far outweigh mine and many slopes might be steeper than White Heat, but for me , it was magic. I'm still grinning from it and happy as a clam that I broke the golden rule by saying "just one more run." It turned out to be the best run I ever took. I'll post the base video and helmet cam vid when I get a chance. Thanks goes out to Bruce for making a board that offers me the confidence to go after steeps like this. Mr. Smith , add it to your bucket list;) Meet White Heat and pic of my last turn in the run out. New Picture (2) (Medium) (Small) (Custom) (Custom).bmp
  3. Rode Mon-Wed this week at Sunday on a short trip from PA. Tues and yesterday were out of this world, no powder but great, meaty turns on AMEX, Risky Business. Its nice to have snow that pushes back. I was digging the whalebacks and polished off the day with a scorching run on White Heat yesterday, top 1/3 was a bit sketchy, but from the steep headwall to the lift was the best run I have ever taken. I didnt think I would be able to carve it, but I tilted the board about 1/3 of the way down and linked turns to the bottom. I will post video of the run once I get it DL'd. I had a guy come with me who had never been out of PA riding, so he had a great time and great experience relearning the mountain from 10 years ago and teaching him how to move around a multipeak resort. In 26 years of riding, best trip I ever took for many reasons. I also loved how nothing was going on so instead of going out an yucking it up, we just chilled at the lodge in the room, in th eheated pool and hot tub. Must have been 60+ week there. We were the only people under 60 in the lodge. I saw a few hardbooters but not often. Someone on a Prior. We will be back, great hospitaility

    Off season training

Hate to sound corny with canned workouts, but I completed P90X and Insanity workout programs since April of 2009. Highlights of those programs P90X (90 days- April thru July) Lost 45 lbs of fat (started at 215lb) Added 15 lbs mucle (hovered at 184 lb) 22% body fast to ~7% 28 second wall sit to nearly 4 minutes 2 pull ups to 30+ pullups It built my confidence to maintain my health at 40 and has been a solid foundation being athletic again Insanity (60 days- Nov and Dec) Started at 184, currently about 179, but lost some muscle from P90 , but became much more agile and lean Month 1 is 45 minutes of jump training (plyo), 5-6 days per week with recovery days) Month 2 is 60 minutes of varied plyo, more intense and longer 5-6 days per week with recovery I feel like I have legs and lungs of Lance. Best shape I have been in since 19 yrs old and my riding has benefited exponentially. I'm not winded during runs or at the end of runs, I make less stops down the hill, I can control and more precisely maneuver my board under me and make it a part of me rather than being a big ole potato sack bumbling down the hill. Here is the thread I posted on it. http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=25985&highlight=p90x It changed my life and improved how I ride. If you need a program that is canned, you can pop in for 1 hour per day and commit to those timelines of 90 and 60 days, those program are a one two punch to whip you into some pretty good shape and you can do it in the privacy of your own home as long as you can get a chin up bar and dont have downstairs neighbors. The jump training is just that and it doenst stop. These will help with overall endurance but it also help me tremendously with the micro muscle twitch for better joint movement, flexibility and strength. Plus they give you menu books that you can still eat a great deal, just the right stuff to feed the furnace. Drop me a Pm if you are interested in more details. Greg
  5. Just two of my sense. In the days I have gotten in over the years, trends tend to show that grooming dramatically takes a nosedive when good ole Pa weather, spikes, rains and dips in a few cycles. depending on wet weather freeze thaw cycle, it creates the varibility in the snow, just like the reason avalanches are caused with layering and the weather cycles of those snow layers. Snow on weak layer casues slide. Crummy snow getting spewed out of a groomer at certain freeze and thaw cycles put down a layer of crap that doesnt stick together or whatever. With that, groomer can only do so much. Schitty snow is schitty snow. NOW if they get good solid consistent weather below freezing and getting good coverage and they screw it up with ridges left between grooming runs and other stuff that can be buffed out on the slope, thats when I get pissed. I also get pissed when ski patrol does nothig to straightliners and ski right past rocks laying on the slopes. I have yet to see patrol yank anyone for riding recklessly unless you are on paradise. Thats crummy groomy. I dont know I wasnt there today and now glad I wasnt, lets keep fingers crossed for continue snow making and cold temp becasue at least then we can hope it sticks togehter and doesnt turn to layers of sugar crap

    Hot Blast 176

Smiss If that falls thru I will trade you straight up on a Riot Velocity 182. I have always wanted to try a Hot Blast. Let me know
  7. Fellow Carvers, I am helping my brother spread his word on his quest to get on Survivor. I hit my email, work people and now my next biggest pool of people, BOL. I hope you can help. He's been trying to get one Survivor since season one (10 years and 20 + videos). Making the videos has become like a family holiday for us. He has made it to the second round of interviews twice and just missed final Cali cut one of those times. He and I seperated ways for a while and this has allowed us to become closer again. CBS launched a new method to get on the show and I am trying to help him out by reaching out to people to spread the word. If you feel you could help feel free to follow the links below and sign up as one of his friends and then see his video. We believe CBS will be tracking # of friends and then total number of votes for video submissions on Feb 22. Sorta a viral survey method By the way, he doesnt exaggerate about his work schedule, which contributed to us growing apart. Here is info for signing up His profile page. Asking folks to click on “add as friend” and “compliment” on video. Positive stuff please http://www.cbs.com/community/manage/userProfileHome.html?u=jeff_troxell To see his submission video http://www.cbs.com/primetime/survivor/casting_call/video_player.php?vid=2968 People can also click on the “share” button directly below my video to send to friends; to link; and embed the video. Thanks Again if you can offer support. Greg:biggthump
  8. Do you mean a laser on his board or Summer? But not to jack a thread Is it the: split the split on the sidewalk the sidewalk and brick wall a beautiful woman with dancing muscularity, strength and flexibility the "so what" look with those big eyes OR the simple pinch of the hair and it dangling in the left hand for me it's the pinch, simple, not obvious, yet very effective Now if we can get her to do the split while modeling with the Terminator Board Look out Loretta!!!!!!!
  9. THAT is just simply BAD A$$!!!!!!! Bruce's building skill......check Steve Fleck's Graphic skills......check High Quality topsheet from Lindsay.......Check Long skinny box on front porch a few weeks later........Permagrin/giggle I experience the same exact level of competency from each of the those guys during my build last winter and I still giggle while ripping odwn east coast hills. If you ever want to unload it, let me know. Next build will be slated in 2011, thinking longer NSR Mr. Fleck you will be hearing from me.
  10. Joe Good to hear from you. I will be at Sunday River Mon-Wed and I hear they have been getting dumped on repeatedly, so I will have a powder board in tote. Sunday are hit and miss, better off shooting for weekday and that varies. I will send you a PM later next week. No official date for BMES yet, probably last minute decsion Later
  11. Another jack, sorry, I DH'd this hill east of blairsville (PennView) a couple years back the day after they finished paving it. childhood dream. http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=16652
  12. Due east 45 miles from the burgh, Blairsville. Trying to get back home from 300+ miles east of the burgh Easton. Angie nice choice for relocation. Man, that buck in western PA, monster for those parts, but I have heard stories a a few showing up every so often.
  13. Why cant it be 17 degrees and just puking
  14. Hockey2 You had your pants on........ right????? My latest "That's one of those "real" carving boards boards isn't it?" Chubz- "Yes" Favorite of all time "Wanna Race?" 2nd Favorite When a liftie at his loading position said "Boy that things rips" and our lifties do not ride or ski and the slope I just came down was at least 1/2 mile away. Turns were made on run at top blue center arrow and lift is at bottom of same photo directly under arrow to the right of the tubing park. http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=24646
  15. We got that last weekend BB, RESULTS??????? loose granular with those hidden pockets that cause instant thigh to chest or chin compressions. Depending on your grooming to freezing temp ratio, you can expect loose granular or razor cord. We are swimming in sugar down here. BLAH!!!!

    Let Go

So many things to appreciate in the video, now I'm heading out to the garage to gather all of the decks I have built and ridden in the past few years and have a bonfire. You have to wonder how many times he was been down that hill and has learned the turns and where he can open up and other places to slide. Not a one trick pony. Ton of time for camera placement, time of day and year. Its very cool to see skill with camera and riding coming together accompanied with a fitting song choice. Hell , if 3rd eye blind was into skating, put it up behind you on the screen in concert.
  17. Dont forget, keep some dates open for BMES, we still need to set a date. http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=28209
  18. POGO to Canuck, let me contemplate, seeking cash as you were to fund trips and new gear. OSIN , yes shipped unless the cost of shipping a board has skyrocketed in the last 2 years. I use to be able to ship a standard board for about $15, if its steeper, I may need a touch of help there. I will check later this week asI am out of town until Wednesday and can box it Sunday and head to PO to get it priced.
  19. New pics added for OSIN and RIOT plus price drops
  20. JBS Ran into Eric after we split up and went for a couple runs with him. Too much loose granular, meatgates and everything else to stay. Wasnt feeling it and cant imagine Sunday will set for anything decent. Looks like a honey do day for me and football tomorrow. Eric Good to meet you today and work on the pencil pinch and elbows. Hope the boots feel better. Hate weekends more and more at Blue.
  21. Nick That would get you started for cheap but be aware you would need bindings with 3hole patterns in the discs. Most other board are 4 hole pattern. but for $50, deal. also little more to ship from Canada and maybe some delay at customs. Good tight sidecut radius to start and an AM board, but I dont know specifics on the Coil and how it rides. ask the seller how much he weighs. Good to see the East PA carver crowd grow.
  22. I will see how I feel, been all night John your turns are getting better, saw you yesterday but limited on time and had to roll, didnt like the mini marbles, loose granular. Happy for you that Razor was good this morning but I would have been puking thru my full face helmet. As far as nightmare and challenge, my prediction is that some mogul advocacy group got a hold of Blue mtn mgmt. That three major runs that have bumps and I am sick of it. I might have put the sticks back on this year, but not interested in moguls. Hope to be out Sat and Sun
  23. Very cool vid and music but Mime Tossing on the game PAIN for PS3 is pretty fun. I couldnt find a link becuase my comp doesnt play youtube when I goto the website
  24. Price Dropped and shipping included, see above Also no word back on the folks on the OSIN 3800 $150 USD- 2hours on it Riot Velocity $200 USD Shipped so they are on the sales block again
  25. Oh, I left the part out about John having and SL board and Susan having a DH or GS gun. thus the bigger grin
