  1. Teach I guess I do go a bit deeper when I tune. I remove bindings and discs. I do a cold rub with the wax , then iron it and apply some extra drops in dry areas. But dont put on too thick, just enough to moisten the base. It then scrap and then brass brush and plastic brush from front to back of the board 8-10 strokes per area. I have had suction before too and have seen where the triaxial base pattern allows for release of the base. I think today may have just been one of those days.
  2. As far as my minimal knowledge knows, the base structure affects the speed of the board. I have seen various base structure over the years and I dont change out board often enough to notice performance of one structure to the next, plus snow is ever changing here in PA so you might prepare it for certain conditions then it changes. that being said, I just ride and dont worry about all the hubbub. Keep it waxed with a good all around wax, periodically sharpened and gummi stoned and ride. Now if I was in the starting gate at the Olympics trying to trim .1 of second off my time, then I would just wear a tighter speed suit;) and tested base structure. The last bit, I think for east PA conditions, sticking with slighter angles (0*, .5* and 1*) allows the board to stay tuned longer and edges last even longer. If they are already ground, I beleive its tough to go back to lower angles. But then again I am talking all based on theory.
  3. If we are talking tune. I have stuck with 0* and 0* bevel on my board, thats what it came from Bruce as. I only sharpen maybe twice per season (50 or so half days) and run a gummy stone periodically afterwards. If its so icy that I need a deeper bevel or tune that often, I bag it and go home, too many other variables to conisder on such days, i.e. other idiots on skis and boards smacking into the back side of me. I intend to keep it at 0/0 becuase I dont like tunig all that often, but I also defer to the tune king, JBS. Plus it being slightly detuned helps work on technique and then when it has a fresh tune on good stiff snow, it makes it hero like.
  4. Is that the same sensation one gets when you step off an eliptical machine or treadmill? I have about 60 seconds of orientating muself when I step off those machines. Heck I even felt a slight case of it walking out of the theatre after seeing Avatar. Took a bout 30 seconds for me to get my bearing. Being subject to such odd conditions leads to it and the human sensory machine simply hasnt evolved becasue tis not subject to those condtiions. Its one of the things I teach when doing Defensive Driver Training. The human sensory system has not evolved to accomodate the speeds that cars travel at, so those higher speed have an increased factor in affecting the brains perception and decision making processes. Good luck with it whatever the case may be.
  5. I am shooting for the 12th but if work plays out, can be ther 19 and 26th too. Its up to most everyone else who travels from futher distances and convenience from schedule.
  6. OSIN has about 2 hours on it. I took it out of plastic for a day that had some of the most challenging weather ever. wind snow, sleet, rain, crud, etc. I did well, but I had enough of the weather an bagged it. Havent been back on it since. I hangs pristine in my office. Slight TD2 binding elastomer marks but overall brand new. Good board I just dont use it, so gotta let it go.

  11. Get with Jesse, he can find you some pretty cool stuff from one of his suppliers of his supplying
  12. I am 90% done on a board I started 4 years ago. I too am looking to have it be metal but with all the time put towards what i have completed, too scared to put into my press not knowing the proper sequence and adhesion methods to avoid board failure. Eric I have a rib cage press already built if you are interested in buying one. Still working out the bugs for a pnematic bladder system that wont leak. Some day I hope to complete it, just to know I did it. but it wont be on any podiums.
  13. Folks Are moldable liners washable? Cat took a leak on one of my boots for some reason. Even gentle warm cycle?
  14. Teach Were you in an orange jacket? JBS and I kept seeing someone in an orange jacket every so often. We hiut raceway twice then headed back over to the quad. Razor was ugly right after ski team due to slalom ruts about a foot deep, but the sun came out, ruts slightly filled and one could pick your way thru the ugliness for some good sticky turns. Hope to see you out there one of these days and get some turns.
  15. Folks Had a computer buy the farm last week during a power surge, lost some early photos of the kids. While I store and back up most of my photos with external HD's and now beginning to burn the most important ones to disc, I am also looking to dump a large portion to them to a web-based photo service thats free What do you folks suggest and offer a couple pointers why you might like a service. Snapfish, Photobucket, etc Thanks
  16. Finally able to upload video from the run. not great quality, shot from an old small hand held point and shoot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6Bfd9_nVqs Pardon my buddy's giggling at the end of the video. It was an exclamation point to the end of 3 great days in Maine
  17. If I can get out in the morning and wife is ok with it. If I do, I plan to leave early enough to get first tracks. Which hill did you climb to get into sidewinder? Was a lift shut down that didnt permit access from the top? I hope to shovel some tonight once its starts settling in, but dont know if I should bring out the 4807 or stay on the Coiler. JBS, where did you place bindings on 4807 when you rode it?
  18. Razor- effortless:biggthump best all season

    Off season training

.....it from my hold dead hands!" I was always hesitant to go for one of those infomercials, but I wasnt when I saw P90 on TV. It sat on my shelf for nearly 3 years collecting dust......3 years wasted. My wife sees a picture of me from HS and asks who it is. "Thats me!" I reply. Deb says "What would it take for you to get back in that shape?" I say "4 months and your support." "Ok, you're on!" I started 4 days later, finished P90. Back in shape, playing with my kids more, doing more athletic activities, enjoying being back in shape. I love each of the programs, P90 and Insanity in their own ways. I wish I had that program when I was in HS and college. Its EZenough to use and time effcient. ITs worth the $130 to have a program you can carry with you and do in your own home, if you have the discipline. I will do some form of these until my knees go bad. Alotta Jumping. Insanity warmup is worse than the worst part of P90 Plyo. It makes oneself "wirey". Many things resulted, this 40 olds get his life back and get active again. and just on Monday I did the longest, steepest hardboot run of my 8 years of riding on White Heat, Sunday River, ME. By the time I was 30 plus meaty carves down this puppy and finished out the run, I had a good pant going but nothing chest popping. For convenience in time and location(1 hour at home, 6 days per week), limited equipment needed and relearning how to eat healthier. Cant be beat. Hot beans, I would be interested to see if anyone is tracking the sports team performance before and after P90. Not just by record but also the atheles personal performance. Strength, agility, balance, endurance, etc. It should be done
  20. Jack thanks, I was back to JH two years ago, but it was mostly clouded in and couldnt see the mountain. your shots remind of the couple days I had there about 11 years ago, snow at night and blue bird during the day. Plus to be able to see corbets. Took me a while to drop in being from PA, but it was a great expereince. Great to hear you are having a blast. and thanks for the shot. Be safe
  21. Not into bumps or trees, at least not yet. Riding in PA, we dont get that kind of exposure, so we carve what we can. Same thing with steeps, we dont get much stuff here at Blue Mtn Pa to make our stomach tingle. I'd ride steeps all day if it were an option in PA. I was just jazzed about riding it b/c I had never been down it before, so rollin in over the top headwall was pretty cool sensation, I had been eyeballin it, had no idea what to expect, hadnt been down anything real steep in a couple years and it all came together. Bob, I did go down some other stuff that was fairly steep too, but they were all iced up, moguls and odd rollers. I think it was the "sustained" part that made it so great for me. The hill just kept coming and coming . So use to riding here in PA and you get 8-10 nice turns and runs over. Cindy, my mind has moved to a deeper love of gravity and carving on it and I look forward to more. JBS, no problem with the thighs, all that jumping around in my garage for the past 2.5 months helped more than I can describe.
  22. I'd never quit, just look at trail maps more intently and ask questions before I get there. I get a sense now that I dont want to go to my home mtn now, but I will. I didnt get my real taste for steeps until I got on metal and Mr. Smith showing me his love for them. I will be in search of steeps for future trips and thanks for all of the input on other locations. and dirty little secrets. Ted, I saw three HB's on Monday, you and someone else together and another guy HBing by himself with some friends. I only saw you guys in the lower park by the chondola. Only there 3 days I was trying to gobble up as much as I could, plus I was showing my friend around the mtn. yea 70% seemed way too high, cant believe everything you read. Jack, great quote Gotta run
