  1. the biggest difference you will notice from ski boots to alpine boots is the flex (as mentioned previously). generally (because i am sure there are exceptions) ski boots have more flex side to side and alpine boots have more flex front to back, which helps you get nice and low without killing your ankles in ski boots. for boots measure measure measure your foot!...this is a crucial part of your happiness in riding and going by shoe size doesn't work(or guessing/trying to remember ski boot size)... i think there is a page on BOL somewhere (anyone know where? anyone? anyone?) on how to properly measure, then post the size, you will get people who have something lying around, who haven't bothered to post on FS and will give you a good deal... certainly a good place to start! good luck and welcome aboard!
  2. I too love ripping (some nice turns) under the lift... had a great day yesterday at our little hill and i was the only carver out there (there are usually a few everyday) and so riding alone was cool b/c every lift up i was with different people and got some great compliments from softbooters and skiers alike who were enjoying watching me... the best was from a teacher from one of the school groups that was there who said he couldn't wait to tell his students i was a girl because they were watching and talking about "that dude that is ripping those turns". sure does make you feel good and even handed out a few cards to people who wanted to know where to get the gear!
  3. it would be awesome if you came up and rode with us... we haven't booked anything eyt but we are thinking since it is the end of the season it won't be too bad.... I am working on an Apres or dinner for either sat or sunday b/c we just got a whole box of goodies from deeluxe and have lots of t-shirts to give away too! come up.... free t-shirt, that should be worth the trip alone!
  4. here is the link to the ticket page, looks like mid 2009 there will be more tickets for sale... we also have womens pgs but coudn't get men's b/c it was part of the package with hockey so the lottery was a much bigger pool.. hopefully people will sell them since they probably got the package for the hockey and couldn't care less about the mens pgs! and from what i understand petro canada (or maybe it's crappy tire) is sponsoring families of athletes so if your son is named to the team make sure and get in on this! good luck!
  5. If your lady likes to cook and/or entertain, i can't recommend these enough! Dave makes an amazingly beautiful carving board, the prettiest in my quiver, that are durable and overall incredible! I give them as wedding gifts! since most of BOLers are men, i highly recommend these to put a smile on your lady's face.... of course for smiles there are always diamonds too!!!!
  6. hi keopele, where are riding out here? as Dave (YYZ) said it's great to hook up with local riders, especially those who are better than you to pick up tips and just watch (i think it was Paul K who told me he taught himself to ride by looking at pictures of really good riders and trying to make his body do the same things he saw). So where are you riding? also check out the ride board here for Ontario and see who is going where when and join up! If you can't keep up with everyone, don't worry you will get a few turns in with someone each run! Nice to have you on board (pun intended!)
  7. Thanks to you for the original idea/design... i am in love again because of you! Come to TO and I will feed you and give you drinks as thanks ;) and I will let you build me a fire pit while you are here!!!!
  8. NOOOOOOOOO!!!! the small men will just have to get in touch with their feminine sides! Allee sorry you didn't like it... but i can understand how 30lbs over recommended weight would make it not good for you... Bruce, can i bring it Tremblant for SQS if you aren't coming? I promise to share it for at least 1 run per day!!!!! Once i am done riding for the day:D
  9. I couldn't go this year (grrrrrr.....) but had a chance to be the first rider of the prototype Bruce made of the Coiler Schtubette (for the ladies!) and it is without question the board i have been dreaming of.... i believe 160cm, 12m SCR (bruce correct me here) and it rides like nothing i have ever experienced. For me, in order to really be aggressive on my board i need to trust my equipment completely. After 1 run there was no question that i could go for it... i get nervous on steeps on my longer board because of the length but like the bigger scr, but on my short board i am very comfortable with the length but the scr is too short to allow to me hold the turn long enough to brush off speed before turning it back down hill (i know this is mostly mental, but that is a huge part of how we perform in anything we do)... the schtubette provided the perfect compromise... short so i am not scared by the length but long sidecut to hold a nice long turn... hope the ladies out there got a chance to ride it and love it! Bruce, i have been selling them for you here while you were away... you can thank me with a complimentary one hehehehehehehheeeeee!:lol::lol::lol:
  10. Hi All, we have just gotten a really great offer for while we are all at SQS. A fellow carver (Sean K., don't think he has a BOL name) owns a bar/restaurant called Fat Mardi's right in Mt. Tremblant's village and he has invited everyone involved with SQS (and their families) for staff prices on drinks on Sunday or Monday. This offer includes draft beer, wine by the glass and house liquor. Please mention that you are a part of SQS when you place your order. So drop in have a beer and some yummy food too! Sean will be riding with us on Monday (and maybe Sunday) so we can all say hi and thanks! Thanks Sean!
  11.:lol::lol::lol:what happens in Aspen stays in Aspen ( i hope dave isn't reading this! hehehee) are you calling us fat and flat? :angryfire just kidding.... i will agree that BOLers are probably not that shallow and most women find that when it comes things like this, while men might prefer the anorexic/implant bodies when it comes down to it... mostly naked women are still mostly naked women and in general that is good!
  12. no takers.... not even some fun comments???? is it possible we aren't as attractive as we think we are? (*hint... don't answer that!)
  13. you do look like a pretty shady character John!;)
  14. we just need all the rest paid for and we are good to go...
  15. seems like a win win to me :D
  16. are you sure that's what we making fun of???? really we are just trying to get to SES without paying for it!
  17. Since you are in Ontario, you know already that as a whole Canadians are not as sue happy as Americans (sorry for the generalization but it is true)... there are also limits to damages in lawsuits in Canada (not a lawyer, don't know details)... here's who i would ask... your insurance company... if this is your private property i would think it would be part of your homeowner's coverage... and maybe all that was needed was a signed waiver from 20 of your closest friends that you invite over to join you.... and then you are covered... I mean this is what your lift ticket is at a resort right (a liability waiver), you are simply signing it when you sign the credit card bill... I agree that it just takes 1 person to sue to ruin you, so I would get the legal advice from the lawyer in your family and talk to the insurance company...but just so you know, Dave and I wouldn't sue you if you invited us over
  18. but just imagine if it works!
  19. this is usually the rule as far as i know... so take the bindings off and pop a few more boards in there and the weight will be fine... They can dictate what you can bring, but have never seen anyone search the bag to make sure there was only 1!
  20. Steph and I would like to place an offer now that the room at Felicia and Allee's has been taken... if anyone would like to pay for us to come out there, ride, sleep, eat and drink we would share a room and allow you to have a webcam on 24/7 in that room! we promise at least 1 pillow fight per day.... any takers?:eplus2::eplus2:
  21. I think we should just go and hang out in teh Off Topic area for now and stop torturing ourselves? (insert crying emoticon here)... maybe for valentines day our husbands will send us to Aspen????
  22. Bruce posted the schtubette specs that we were talking about yesterday... oh and i like my spelling better!
  23. lalalalalallalaaaaa... I can't hear you..... I am bummed that Dave and I won't be there.... Bruce, I am hoping that Leslie and I get to try the Schtubette before you go, since it was our idea!!!!!!! Have a blast ladies and make a few turns and drink a few drink for Steph and I who will be wallowing in self pity that we aren't there! ehhehheheheee
