  1. If Powderhorn gets snow or if you go in the afternoon when the snow softens up during the warmer conditions It can be pretty good carving? Its only 45 minutes from GJ. Aspen is 2 hours but has more to choose from with 4 great mountains. If you go to Powderhorn the best carving runs are Bills, Maverick, red eye, and peacemaker (take midway below lift ). small area but great carving (up to six people carving some days). Today was a little sketchy in the morning due to the warmth but got better as it softened up. If you look at Powderhorn tomorrow thread you can see pics of some of the runs. Powderhorn shuts down march 31 and aspen stays open till April 21 st. It spring break for me starting this Friday for sun and fun? Aloha from Maui!
  2. Doug and I went up for morning session and a little granular and icy today. We have been extremely spoiled this year with only 2 days (today and the first day of the year in mid December) out of the 17 days being a little sketchy. The last day at Powderhorn for me this season since I am going on spring break on Friday. Doug is heading back to Florida end of march so Dag and I will have to get up to Aspen in April for season's end. Maybe we can get over to Loveland if they stay open till May to ride with big Mario and yo lci crowd. Signing off from Powderhorn and see you next year!
  3. Will do probably be tonight since I just set up PayPal.
  4. Just took these off the deluxe 700 I bought from wingnuts last week. $50. Used 10 times according to previous owner? There in good shape.
  5. As the three of us are carving some nice turns coming down Redeye at Powderhorn Mountain, Colorado, we come to a stop near a respectful skiier and in his snowboarder girlfriend. The skiier says "I just love to watch you guys get down low". What we live to hear! A few weeks ago in Aspen, a skiier friend of mine who was not familiar with apline said "I could see how that would be fun".
  6. Great day today even though we got 9 inches in past 48 (a little soft on the groom). Dag, Doug, and I did quite a few runs on the West End today (Tenderfoot and Redeye) and it was decent. Also did Bills and Peacemaker. Doctor Scott, Sharon, and Jimmy were sofbooting today. Scott was carving it up with the soft boot Bomber plates (SoftbootSailor would have been envious). Below is a couple of pics of GJC and Doug flipping on edge on Redeye.
  7. Flyfast, Doug and I will be meeting at the Clifton exit at the park and ride at 7:30 am tomorrow morning if you want to catch a ride? All new snow should be groomed in by the am for great first tracks. Give me a call if you want to meet up?
  8. After I got my work bonus for last year I bought a kessler 168 last week and rode it for tHree days straight at my home mountain here at Powderhorn. At first it was washing out on my heel sides and I adjusted my TD3s 3/8ths inch forward and it solved the problem. I then proceeded to flip this board on edge effortlessly and with the sidecut of 8 near the shovel and 12 near the tail it turned quickly (which is why I bought it for narrower slopes). I was a little concerned that this board would be too short for my height and weight (6 foot 195) but no problem it handled like a longer board and felt relatively stable. I was able to do 2 hand touches on both sides finally with no fear. This an incredible board for free carving and is an excellent addition to my quiver betWeen my Coiler VSR 177 and Donek axess 177. Great all around board as Kessler advertises. With the price I probably will not be adding to my quiver any time soon.
  9. Also forgot to mention that I went back to the Coiler at the end of the day on Sunday and as I was carving a toeside near the bottom of the lift I broke or sheared the heal Bail right at the lug and popped out. Thank God I was near the lift. Am going to keep it and show it to Fin to see if that is common after 4 years of use. Also a pic down below of a snow turtle at the top of midway lift at Powderhorn. ALOHA from out home mountain!
  10. Went three days in a row trying out the new Kessler 168 and Doug was trying out the Coiler VSR 177. Incredible 3 days with good groom and weather. Dr. Scott, Jimmy, and Sharon were also up Sunday carving up on Red Eye. Doug and I were mostly riding Bills, Peacemaker, and Lower Equalizer which were outstanding! Below is pic from Saturday riding the lift above Peacemaker after doing first tracks with Doug (the extreme carving machine).
  11. I stand corrected, Powderhorn got 19 inches in 9 hours yesterday up to a 78 inch base! Probably will have to wait till Saturday or Sunday before it is groomed in.
  12. Sunday at Powderhorn was a Pow day (5 new inches) and I went with the reliable Donek AXS all mountain while Doug was actually doing some carving on his snow skate (to much Pow for his metal FC). Going to try again this weekend after all new snow is groomed and try out a new board. Powderhorn is up to a 69 inch base - most I have seen in the 14 years since I have been riding there.
  13. Now that SES is over its back to the home mountain. Powderhorn has gotten 14 inches in past 48 and I am going to wait till Sunday till they groom it in. Dag heal fast. Hope to see Doug, Scott, Jimmy, and Sharon up there carving it up!
  14. Great shots! Thanks for the pics and your helping out on the clinics, Steve!
  15. One I also cropped from the Steeps Clinic that Steve took. Changing it up with a toeside.
  16. Dag, who was the rider about 18:20 into Sean's carve factor video, deserved some extra points. He had broken rib and it smarts just watching him pull off some two arm drags.
  17. Corey, on behalf of the Grand Junction crowd (me, Scott, and Dag who is healing from his broken rib) I want to thank you for both your clinics (intermediate and steeps). You and Steve did a great job instructing. Also, thanks to Fin and Michelle for all they do for the sport. My fourth year in a row and it keeps on getting better!
  18. Are you going to be at the SES in aspen this weekend and next week? Love to test it out!
  19. WOW, BEAUTIFUL TO WATCH. When you say could hurt your knees, is that due to chatter that you sometimes see in this vid?
  20. I went to Eldora last year when I was visiting my daughters in Boulder and I had a few good runs. Was surprised at the number of carvers I saw (3 or 4) but no one seemed to know about SES when I asked them. I might go again in late feb or march when I am on the eastern slope?
  21. GJC. All pics were on Bills run yesterday during an EPIC day at Powderhorn.
