  1. Yeah, I know. It makes no sense. But there's more to the board than just sidecut, and for whatever reason I liked the Madd on ice better than the X4.
  2. Hmm, I was kind of on death marbles too. "Frozen Granular" per the ski report, and the Madd still got 'er done. I'm thinking the dual sidecut thing is more for longer boards. The NSR 185 is 13.7 to 17m. I will want this 160 to come around, so it will either be 11/12/11 or just 11.
  3. I have some hand-me-down Fischer RC4s from my dad, they're 170cm, 15m, and I like them. It's to the point now that you can basically buy skis with the same numbers as snowboards. If I was buying now I'd look at Volkl too; my wife (aggressive expert) has a pair of Supersport 5-Star and loves them. When she bought hers she also demo'd Atomic Metrons and dismissed them because they weighed like 40 pounds.
  4. 160cm 20cm waist schtubby nose/tail Initially I was thinking 11/12/11m radii (nose/mid/tail) but I tried the X4 and I didn't think the 10/12/10.5m worked well. I could really feel the three different radii and they didn't seem to be getting along with each other. Part of the board would be carving and part would be skidding. If Bruce wants to try 11/12/11 I'll test it, but I'm not sure I'll like it. I may end up just going with a straight 11m. I rode my Madd 158 f3 again a couple weeks ago after a rain/re-freeze, and dang it the board still kills it. I guess when I tried it a month ago on hero conditions, it simply wasn't icy enough. But I think Bruce can beat that board... we'll see...
  5. meh. I didn't realize it was more than a nickname.

    Phish is back!

I love Phish, primarily for their musical genius. First show I saw was 1990 at the Somerville Theater just outside of Boston - about a 1200 seat theater. We were like 30 feet from the stage. They played a ton of Junta and I think Lawn Boy had just come out. They did the trampoline thing. The whole thing blew my mind. carvedog, I think your math is off.
  7. I have a 6 and 3 year old both in ski school, but usually only for the morning. In order to ski with them I cram my Deeluxe T700s into my ski bindings. You just have to reach down and pull the binding lever up. Yeah, it's sketchy, but it works enough. I have released from the bindings appropriately. I just don't push it or do bumps, which is fine because I don't really have an opportunity to do that with my kids yet. I personally wouldn't want my kids to see me snowblading. Call me what you will. I want them to aspire to master real skis, and I want to provide that example.
  8. http://www.cnbc.com/id/29654843 man... one of my best friends lost his father to this. this would be huge, as pancreatic cancer is basically a death sentance.
  9. ok ok! I stand corrected. 10 inches. It's like a baguette. I'm having a 160 built... stay tuned... proto to be tested before end of season...

    Asyms.

...and I am goofy, Phil, but thanks. Furthermore I still have my PJ7. Always did covet those Hot Logicals though. big three five today. I have a shiney new NSR185 on loan from bschurman, but alas I am here in training all week for my new job with Medco. This place is freakin' huge. ~3500 emp's on site, ~30,000 worldwide. HQ is the old IBM campus. Welcome to the machine! Thanks all.
  11. F2 was similar, they had pretty long radii for the lengths. i.e., the RS173 was 14m. But their noses were traditional and the effective edge lengths were a little shorter than the schtubbies are now. The decambered nose is a big factor of these new board designs. Hmm... the new F2s are even longer in radius.... http://www.f2-snow.com/htdocs/boards-speedster-rs-wc.php?setsub=33&setnav=22 183 = 18m
  12. Get an AM if you will be riding untracked powder with significant frequency. The Schtubby works well in everything but untracked powder, where it will submarine if you don't lean way back. In cut-up powder or crud it's a dream. I rode mine all day after an 18" dump and had a blast.
  13. The reality is with these metal boards that a longer board is simply not necessary to handle a longer sidecut like 14m. And the Schtubbies have longer effective edge, like a board 5-7cm longer. One big thing is the reduction of sidecut <i>depth</i>. Shallower sidecut makes a board easier to skid and steer, which makes the board good for AM duty.
  14. Nice, I am really enjoying mine. Very glad I went 14m and 21cm. Wouldn't want it any different. 21cm gets me under 60 degrees and floats me in cut-up pow; 14m handles the speed on the steeper stuff and is more stable in general. Sweet graphics.
  15. there are at least two other threads discussing this board, use the search function please. thanks.
  16. Geoff, purecarving on a Coiler.... I thought you could only do this on asyms?? ;)
  17. WHATEVER!! Don't listen to him... Shred... brings it. I don't care what he says, the guy can ride. Must be something about that 22" stance! Only reason he wasn't up on the carve-or-die stuff with us was between his own ears. Friday = rain. Saturday = temps well below freezing... whole mtn on "conditions hold" Sunday = primary surface: frozen granular.... according to the ski report! Brought the currently-for-sale Madd 158 out one more time just to see... and dang the board still has it! When I tried it two weeks ago it must not have been icy enough! Maybe I'll keep it. Hmm... Monday = 5-7" new snow. No real carving to be done. Coiler Schtubbies prove themselves again as fully capable AM rides. Tuesday = picture day, pretty soft groomers, nice conditions. White Nitro (aka White Knuckle) was the place to be. Then I had to go home! :(
  18. testing tinypic.... see Shred? This is how you post bigger pics.
  19. And thanks to Shred for the cameraman duties... (he didn't send me pics of anyone else... guys, put 'em up.)
