  1. I don't have my boots and bindings handy, but that does look like a little more side-to-side play than I have. You might try the vice. The receivers are steel, I don't think it could hurt. Just do a little at a time. This is just my opinion. You're at your own risk of course.
  2. ok, so surely Pete Thorndike is a good teacher...?
  3. Hey man, just a little ribbing, don't take it personally. But I do think you should ride more. I don't recall giving you any lessons. Didn't you do the Waterville Valley race program? Isn't that run by some well-respected racing veterans?
  4. I really think The Norm is the gateway to carving.
  5. As long as you're talking custom, I am of the strong opinion that ALL the stock all-mtn carvers (4WD, Axxess, AM) are woefully short in the sidecut department. 10m on a 174?? I would put 14m on that rig. Better for carving AND not carving.
  6. My Coiler Stubby 171 is 21cm wide and it's great in soft snow. I had a blast on it after an 18" storm. In untracked powder it will submarine if you don't stay well back, but in anything tracked or cut up it works surprisingly well. However in a place like yours where you get lots of powder, you'd probably be better served by the Prior 4WD or Donek Axxess or Coiler All-Mtn. They have bigger noses for powder.
  7. I can't stand oaked beer of any kind, and I've had the supposedly good Belgian stuff too. Blecch. Tastes spoiled to me. I am also sooo all set with this fad of all the American micro's trying to out-hop each other with these crazy top-fuel quintuple IPA's. I am back to basics with PA's and ESB's now. I think the gold standard ESB is Fuller's, from England. Although when I do want to get my hop on, it's gotta be Stone IPA, which isn't too over the top. And then there is Schneider-Weisse Hopfenweisse - awesome. For fancy beer, right now I'm absolutely stuck on Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van de Keizer Blauw. Scrumptious. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1534/6947
  8. DUDE. Come on. Upload a good sized version (like 1600 pixels wide) to tinypic.com, and embed it here. Don't tease us with postage stamps like that. (embed a picture in a post using the button in the editor.)
  9. before you scan, look at the back of the print. if it says copyright anywhere, you shouldn't do this.

    Sold the Bike

Har har. I just have no time to ride or maintain it. We may share it with another family, but we would get good use out of it regardless. We live right near the water and we could get out on it after work during the week and on weekends during the summer. There are lots of cool islands with beaches to explore around here.
  11. Avoid V-rocker and other full-rocker or no-camber boards at all costs if carving is the goal. Burton Shaun White kids' boards have camber. Or SG makes a 125 kids' race board. Also fyi, the terms nose rocker, tail rocker, decambered nose, decambered tail only apply to the nose and tail regions of the board. The body of these boards may still have camber.

haha, hadn't heard that one! Probably won't happen for a year or two. We got a knock-off version of the Big Green Egg called Kamado Joe at a salvage store for $300, it's awesome!

Well, for now, it will help offset season passes and ski school for the year. The next 4-figure toy will be something the whole fam can enjoy - a boat!

  15. Get these Deeluxe liners for your Deeluxe boots: http://www.bomberonline.com/store/accessories/liners.cfm (speed model red is best)
  16. There is a guy at Sugarloaf if you ever go there.
  17. My wife is 5'3" and an expert skier. On the odd occasion she snowboards (in her ski boots) she uses a Burton E-deck 147. It's perfect for her. That's like a Donek Axxess or Prior 4WD. I would definitely advise you not to go too long.
  18. Calling them "obsolete" is pretty hyperbolic. They will be good for some people, not applicable for others. Just like anything else. Personally I don't try to bend/warp/twist the board with my feet so I'm interested to see how it will feel to ride a board where that isn't even an option. But mostly I want to feel the suspension action. To me the Karl/Apex design appears to be the most mechanically effective one yet.
  19. No way man. I've had the Triple, and I can get the Blonde and most Unibroue here. The Blonde is one of my favorite beers, the Brune is slightly better. Unibroue is good, but it has absolutely nothing on Leffe. My latest discovery is Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van de Keizer. Amazing.

and here it is again... complete with pic of a North-Face-onesie-wearing-asym-riding-twelve-sandwich-eating dork with his knees tucked. All that's missing is the ice axe. http://www.doityourself.com/stry/alpinesnowboarding edit - nice comment by blueb in 2008, lol.

I started it. It's been wikified and edited several times since then. Someone even deleted the part about alpine snowboarding technically pre-dating freestyle.
