  1. It's a 33% increase in thickness, so yeah, significant. The boards will ride differently unless the builder can compensate somehow, but that would take time, trial and error.
  2. Burton catalogs first mention of quadratic sidecuts was in the 1990 season for production boards. Dimensions of the 1989 Safari Comp III were 295mm nose, 266mm waist, 293mm tail, 147cm running length. Using the old approximate formula Radius = Running Length2 / (8 x Sidecut Depth) gives a radius of about 19.3m. Safari Comp II was about 16m, and it felt like it. But this thread is kind of silly, this board belongs on a wall.
  3. 4.5 lbs is the weight for the Sidewinder, which is heavier than the TD3, plus all hardware. Does the F2 weight include all hardware? The footprint of the bindings does not affect leverage.
  4. So why bother riding Sidewinders then? TD3s and red (hard) or blue (medium) e-rings are there for you. I don't ride Sidewinders for that reason. I'm also not getting the weight issue. Are the few ounces of difference even noticeable when you are running a big metal board and a suspension plate? I've heard racers actually like more weight down there. I've never considered Bombers heavy, and I went from Burtons to TD1s at first.
  5. Could be some kind of tear. You might need an MRI.
  6. There is also the phenomenon of the also-rans wanting to ride the same gear as the winners.
  7. The topsheet says 161, 18, 9. Whether it's radial, parabolic, elliptical, VSR, Sean isn't saying.
  8. Instant edge bite, tenacious edge hold, aggressive turns, huge rebound, very exciting. I want one. Going to have to sell a couple boards to make it happen, but I need it. I was grunting like a tennis player on each turn. I don't think I've ever done that before. I also unexpectedly found myself several feet in the air between turns sometimes. So cool to get this excited about a board after 28 years of snowboarding!
  9. Sorry for the foggy iPhone pic, but here is the prototype I rode.
  10. PSR, very sorry to hear all that. You will be missed. Thanks for all your help over the years. Get well soon and get back out on the hill if possible!
  11. Bring some softies if you want to demo a Winterstick!
  12. I strongly disagree with this advice for a new carver of 20 days. Or anybody for that matter.
  13. Assuming your feet are also big, I would say no, this board has a very narrow waist, 18cm.
  14. Depends on my kids' mogul/slopestyle competition schedule!
  15. Saw this on fb. So sad, condolences to a carving brother.
  16. Good to hear Terry English is still ripping. Is he on this forum??
  17. Haha thanks. I got 2nd in sl and 1st in gs, and then 1st in a dual gs shootout. The kid to my right is a hardbooter from Gould Academy, he won the sl. I used my Donek Proteus 163 in sl and my Coiler Nirvana Energy 174 in gs.
  18. I don't think I consider the flex of the baseplate a problem, as long as they don't break. I've been out of the loop on soft gear for quite some time, so I just went into the shop at Sugarloaf and asked my friend who runs it to give me the best bindings for how I ride, which he knows. They retail for over $400, so I assume they're the good stuff. With the season pass discount and redeeming some Boyne points they were reasonable. They seem to ride well.
  19. Took some pics at last weekend's USASA Maine Mountain Series GS and SL at Sugarloaf... Sean Keough, former longtime Maine Mountain Series organizer My nephew, probably my only hope for a hardbooter legacy Another young hardbooter - so good to see wider shot of the SL course shot of me taken by my sister-in-law This was a fun time, I'd encourage anybody with access to racing to try it.
  20. Got a new softboot setup for the first time in like 15 years. Winterstick SW 164, Burton Driver X, Burton Genesis X. The boots are very stiff, a lot of plastic inside it seems. I'm happy with them. Most of the flex in the system seems to come from the binding baseplate lifting off the board, and these are supposed to be some of Burton's stiffest bindings.
  21. Well that explains it. I got a Winterstick Seth Wescott 164 for when conditions aren't good for hardboot carving. Seth and I both have 28.5 size boots, and the board is 26cm at the waist, but even at my crazy angles of 36/27 I still get boot drag if I try to really lay it over. It carves surprisingly well though otherwise. Thanks for sharing.
  22. That was fun to watch. I'd like to see what you could do with an alpine setup!
  23. Coiler Nirvana Energy 174, 20cm waist, 12-14m VSR sidecut. My new "beer league GS" board! "Carbonium" topsheet is cool...
