  1. Les Menuires is good but ugly. lt is definitely not the jewel of the Three Valleys however you can find ski in/ski out accommodation. l'd be more inclined to stay in Meribel or Courchevel because they are so much prettier and still offer what you need. Avoriaz is almost completely ski in/ski out as cars are banned in most of the resort. lt's also the biggest resort of 14 resorts, all linked together... 8 in France and 6 in Switzerland. lf you have a chance to check the other resorts out it is all very picturesque but make sure you watch the time so you get back to your resort in time. Only problem is all of them, even Avoriaz, are kind of low so you need to watch the weather or you'll be picking grass out of your base. Val d'lsere is awesome and if you stay out of the downtown area you can find reasonable chalets that are almost ski in/ski out. Fabulous terrain and Tignes is there just in case you need a glacier. Les Arc, Serre Chevalier and La Plagne are also worth investigating. And of course... Chamonix!
  2. LOL! Kaoru is hardcore, man. That Proton has just about pushed me out of bed and onto the sofa (^_-)
  3. Awesome fun over the last few days! Kaoru and l had a wonderful time at Cypress. l can just imagine the off piste riding/skiing there after a big dump.... SO many lines to choose from! We had the chance to take out our carving boards for the first time. Mr. Scooby was an incredible host and brought us up to the mountain each day. Thank you!! Totally looking forward to riding with you again when we return (^_^) Conditions were very soggy on the first day(Thursday). All that was missing was a cup and margarita mix. l was out for my maiden voyage on my new to me Kessler and Kaoru was on her eDeck. Lots of face plants. Very grateful to Gore-tex. Sunday and Monday were hard packed. Kaoru brought out her weapon... a 149 Oxygen Proton. From the first run she was loving that board. By the end of the second day she was wondering if we should go back up again tomorrow. A carver is born! l had loads of fun on my new board. Still tuning my stance up but definitely becoming friends with my new ride. Aching from head to foot from plenty of crashes and from scraping nearly a decade of rust off my muscle memory. lt's nice to be back! Hopefully we'll have the chance to ride with you all next time (^_^)
  4. l was feeling something very similar to you on my first day. l couldn't get my hip around on my heel side turn. l have just about eliminated the problem by sliding my rear binding sideways towards the toe side and then placing my toe as much on the edge as l can before boot out. The recessed heel immediately biases the rider towards the heel edge. That little line on the bottom of my boots is way back of the center of the binding. l'm at the end of my adjustment within the bails to move my boot forward so by moving the whole binding sideways l managed to get my toe over the edge. Seems to have done the trick.
  5. No... and yes. Not a replacement from the original manufacturer.... but something perhaps better, though not new. l'll make a separate thread detailing my experiences with a local custom builder in a different thread. Fortunately, it ended well (^_^)
  6. Hiya, Well, after a looooonnnng hiatus from snowboarding the old memories are slowly percolating up from the depths. l seem to remember mounting my bindings on my old board so that the narrowest point was centered between my bindings. Roll forward 10 years later. l have just hopped onto new tech, VSR, metal and spring-loaded boots. My bindings are mounted centered on the inserts which to me looks like l am well forward of the narrowest point on the board. Yesterday was the maiden voyage and it felt a bit like l was all over the nose of the board, with the tail threatening to wash out. So... just wondering... where are you people placing your bindings?
  7. lf you can get them to Vancouver before the 11th l'm interested.
  8. l have only had two very short days in my 2011 RC10's so my experience is very limited. However, compared to my old Burton Reactors, something l notice is that the lateral flex of the boot is much different. l believe these boots have an asymmetric lateral flex pattern meaning that when pushing one's knees to the inside, there is a greater amount of resistance than pushing to the outside. l'm running TD3 SW's so the lateral flex in the binding is masking this sensation somewhat. Still... l have been wondering whether messing with the boot canting would help the situation. Perhaps re-aligning the cuffs to allow more rotation...?
  9. lnterested if you'll ship to Canada. Envelop should be fine. Paypal OK!
  10. Yeah Scooby l hear ya... Did a bit of a test a few minutes ago. Just screwing the bolt into the inserts without the binding showed an interesting revelation. Not one single insert would bite more than 2.5-7 turns. Worst one barely past 2. The inserts are not too deep into the board... it looks like the top two threads on each insert are missing! Did the same test on my wife's new Oxygen Proton. Every single insert bit to 4.75 turns. Looks like my old Sims will get one more chance to play in the snow before permanent retirement.
  11. The toe lever hits my 27 UPZ RC10 buckles as well. l just adjusted the set screw on the lever to have a hair's worth of space between buckle and lever.
  12. Misguided perhaps. Really liked the maple leaf graphics. Felt like flying the flag back in Japan so to speak. 3rd glass of champers and turkey almost on the table! Thanks Buell (^_^) Agreed. lt's awesome to be with everyone again after so long. The wife wants to move here. May have to seriously look at that as our new adventure for 2011.
  13. l am absolutely gutted to read this. l've been watching the Prior site for 5 years and have been in contact with the company since early September trying to create the "dream board" for my return to riding after a nearly 10 year hiatus. l ordered my board to time it with my once-in-every-two-years holiday back home to Calgary Canada. l was hoping to ride it while l was here and teach my wife, who is new to hard booting. The FP is in Sapporo. The Sims is toast, no question. BlueB offered to lend me a board which is an awesome gesture in every way... but my plans to have one, or even two Priors under my arm when l get on the plane Jan. 11th have been dashed. Anyway... tonight is all about family and turkey... and a copious quantity of alcohol. Tomorrow l'll try to see if my old Burton bindings will fit on the board. lf not... there's always that Osin 3800 l bought from Mr. Scooby. Not really a carving board, though. BlueB's board won't get here until next week.
  14. Hi guys, Thanks for your posts. Every single screw is under 3.0 turns using the standard 20mm screws. Average is 2.7 turns. l am assuming one turn equals one thread. l suspect longer screws would solve the problem, however even with the bindings off, installing the screws alone equals what appears to be EXACTLY 3.5 turns. The inserts are deeper into the board than l would have thought necessary... and there's no chance of finding longer screws today. Actually, the finish on my brand new board is not what l would call perfect. l have air bubbles visible in the tail section through the graphics which l would not have expected from what is a $1150 board. There are also light surface scratches all over the top sheet. They offered to refund me the money and pay to ship it back.... but then l have no board. Kind of a (insert expletive here) situation, really.
  15. Hiya... Just as the title says, l am in the process of mounting them up right now to my new Prior FLC. However, l'm not getting the recommended thread depth of 3.5. ls this a deal breaker? Am l riding my old Burtons tomorrow?
  16. Based on how it was last weekend l wouldn't risk using a new board there yet. Those figures are misleading. lt was raining in the village and there was more warm weather in the forecast. No idea what the longer range forecast is. We had an incredibly hot summer this year... the hottest on record. The ocean around Japan is hotter than usual so instead of tons of snow we are receiving buckets of rain. All could change in one weekend, though. l've seen close to 2 meters fall between Friday and Sunday before. ln the nearly 6 years l have lived in Hokkaido late January-early February conditions are good. Lots of snow and off piste/tree riding is fun and deep enough to be safe. Hopefully this year will be the same.
  17. Hoping to go up for our first time Dec. 26th. Got 2 extra seats.
  18. You are riding in the land of vertically challenged people.... compared to N. American sized humans, anyway. l would be astounded to hear of you finding anything approaching that length for rent. ls there any pow down there? The conditions in Hokkaido are appalling at the moment.
  19. There's another guy on here... Cousin of Beagle l believe... who has installed the red tongues on his RC10's. Perhaps he could give you an idea how much softer they are compared to the stock black ones?
  20. Bit off topic but l have an almost unused pair of Burton Reactors in a 26.5-27.0. Liners are in the same condition. l'll be home next week and can lend them out.
  21. RC10's use the stiffest plastic, least affected by cold The standard tongue for the 2011 model is black and has a flex rating of 120. The red tongues have a flex rating of 100. lf there is ANY way you can test fit a boot that would be the best way to go. Either way, l suspect you will be better off moving to a different manufacturer and going up one shell size. l wear a size 29 shoe or 11. l wear a 27.5 ski/hard boot. With a well made foot bed l have no problems whatsoever. lf you don't have a good foot bed it is worth every penny. The RC10's will also remove your heel lift issues and can be adjusted easily to accommodate thin calves. Happy feet have no price tag!
  22. Go to the Prior website and look at the FLC. In the specs section at the bottom of the page the recommended weights are listed. They'll be the same for the WCRM.
