  1. Shawn, Welcome to BOL! This really is a great place for info and instructions (even if they're long distance)! Glad to see you got some "proper" equipment, as a lot of the newer stuff is easier to ride! Best advice I can give is to search out anyone in your area who carves and ride, ride, ride... and ride some more! And even try to talk a friend in to joining you! If you can find someone to ride with, it makes it more fun to progress! Instructions and critique are great, but if you don't utilize the assistance by practicing what you've learned, it's hard to progress! Good Luck and Welcome to the Dark Side! James
  2. "YEP!" ps - Great self-control, Mario! Having witnessed the one altercation, I was impressed! James
  3. Well, what can one say? If you weren’t there Sunday, you missed out! Besides, “Yep” probably best describes a classic Lovey day! Cold (single digits), snowing, windy, limited visibility due to the last two, and there was about 4” of fresh snow on top of the underlying groom, which made for some great (albeit slower), unlimited-hold runs! Bravery was not needed, however layered clothing and skin coverage was the smart route! The “Real Men” list included, The Dude, Ice, Odd Job, Big Mario, Ink, Karver Kai and myself. We bombed Mombo and Richards, until our legs gave out, mixing in only one pass on Roulette, due to the northwesterly breeze. After the others gave up, the Dude and myself (the older, Real Men… or is that the Real Older Men?) continued to enjoy a couple of non-stop, top to bottom runs, before retiring to the Rat with the rest of the misfits. We determined no one had frostbite, enjoyed a brew and left a little before 1:00pm, with very little traffic to speak of and were even greeted by sunshine, as we approached Denver. So there you have it… a perfect day at Lovey! Good friends, tolerable conditions and another great day of carving! “YEP!”, says it all!!!
  4. Sick with flu-like symptoms, so I'm out for tomorrow (Sun). Maybe one day next week, if I'm feeling better. Rip-it-up tomorrow you misfits! James
  5. I'm in for tomorrow. See you misfits there! James
  6. Alan, Shout out to Inkaholic over on the YO LCI!! thread. I believe KarverKai is 11 now and started boarding when he was 3-4. He's quite the gymnast and been hardbooting with our group for a couple of years and is now quite the proficient carver, laying out some nice clean mini-trenches! I'm sure Ink could shed some light on equipment! Personally, I love the fact that there are kids who are motivated to get outside, instead of glued to the game box via flat screen! James
  7. Friday was another great day at Lovey! ALGUNDERFOOT, Arneburner and myself enjoyed a morning of sunshine, firm snow and wide-open slopes, since Monday was a holiday and there were very few ski-racers in attendance! With the exception of only one true ice-patch near the bottom of Roulette, the runs were nice and grippy early, until the cover scraped off, then it was a little dicey in places! Called it about 11:00am and the main lot was only1/2 full! Al, it was a pleasure meeting and making turns with you, sir! Let's do it again soon! Also, Drifter and Fire Cut are open as of today, but not showing as groomed... and don't forget, 4-pack lift tickets are only available until Nov 24th for you occasional visitors! tomorrow... James
  8. ALGUNDERFOOT will be making an appearance at Lovey for a morning ride on Friday! I've offered to show up, point him downhill and give him a push! Any other mid-week carvers up for a morning ride? Arne? Pete? Don? Anyone...? anyone...? Bueller...? Odd Job...? 8am @ or near the Wedge Bar and 9am @ Lift 1! later... James
  9. OUTSTANDING DAY AT LOVEY! This was one of those days you dream about! Bluebird skies, just warm enough and absolutely carvalicious groom.... (insert personal carving music here)... THEN, the dream became a nightmare about 10:00, when every ski-racing 14 yr old kid in Colorado, showed up! We (Big Mario, Noir x252, Monodude and myself) gave it our best and called it just before 11:00... Mario was laying out his usual bone-jarring trenches on the SG, the Dude was looking better than ever on a somewhat exotic monoboard w/ plate, Juwan was ripping a softie setup (due to broken hard boots) and I enjoyed my best first-day in years! Mario scored top honors of the day for pulling a perfect "flounder" in the lift line and took a well-deserved ribbing by the liftie! More complaints were lodged in the "Skella" for lack of Cocoa Porter! Shout out to newcomers George and Dana, hope to see you two again soon! A couple of other unidentified hardbooters were seen also, but couldn't be tracked down for questioning! All in all, an outstanding day, even if a little short! See you clowns next Sunday!

  13. Let me get this straight... They sell that pbr swill Oct to May, but don't get Cocoa Porter in until after Thanksgiving and stop selling it by February and only sold 4 kegs... that skews the numbers a little, but still I would've sworn the LCI alone drank more than 2 kegs a month! How do they expect to sell more CP, if it's not available? Sounds like we need an audience with the Governor on this... harumph, harumph, harumph... or at least the Sheriff! Besides, oatmeal belongs in a bowl! James

  18. Sad to lose such a classic and original singer and songwriter. I grew up listening in the 60's and 70's. He will be sorely missed... RIP
  19. I had the same issue of frozen/numb toes for the last few years and chocked it up to age and maybe poor circulation and I was cringing at the price of trying some boot heaters. Last year, someone in the LCI (Thanks, Biggs!) tossed me a $1.00 solution. Stick-on Toe Warmers from WalMart! Couldn't work, right? Stuck one on the top of each sock and rode all that day in warm comfort! It was amazing how much more control I had with warm feet! I'm usually done after 4-5 hours, but they're still warm! Never leave home without them, now! If you haven't tried them, its worth the investment... James
