I need some company out here. 👍  I think so far there are a total of 4 Thirsts in the northeast and I have 3 of them. @barryj doesn't count yet as he's still crunching the numbers on binding angles. The SF is MADE for this godawful frigid yet snow-deprived place.  The XC aint too shabby either.  When the stars align and Upper Standard and Kidderbrook finally open...it's 8RW time.  Wish I could try the 9SW...

My 8rw will be here this week!(I am in MA). And seriously considering the TS 202 but want to ride the 8rw first. Had smaller boards already covered with virus and kessler 🙂

I got to demo the 9SW today.  It is a gentle giant.  195 length, 18.8 waist (or close to that).  The easiest, most forgiving big carving board I've ever ridden.  There was 1-2 inches of fresh over groomed, with low visibility.  I found myself doing a beginner run (which I would normally avoid) 4 times because it carried so much speed that I was able to link turns where normally that would slow me down too much in these conditions.  It ate up runs that had been rutted out.  It floated in 2-3 inches of fresh in a wide gully.  It was easy to skid and slow down.  As you would expect with a board of this length and width, crowds and narrow cat tracks were a little sketchy, any thing under about 10 mph. was sketchy.  But, you don't have to go 40 mph. to initiate a turn.  I straight lined a few sections and it felt completely stable with speed (as expected).  It accelerates like crazy if you let it, but you don't have to.  I was a little intimidated at first as 188 is the largest I've ever ridden, but after 2 1/2 hours non stop, I couldn't stop smiling.

Wow. That sounds amazing.  Imma gonna have to test ride one somewhere 😍

So tried flat binding today on my new board instead of lifts and it felt so much better! Only thing was there was a ton of front leg burn, can anyone tell me if I put a 3/3 lift front and rear will help with this before I go ahead and buy one. Mind that I have upz boots with a 6 degree ramp on them.

You just have to experiment and see what works best for you. For example i like 3/3 but getting a 6 degree disk for front just to try it out. Played around with binding angles a bunch aswell before settling on 60/55. Also was told i dont need cant at 60/55 but still trying it out to see what feels best.

all the advice is just a starting point for trial and error. Only you will know what works well for you:)

    Roger that.

Do you have any experience with the Vist Snowplate 07 ??

I love my Snowplate 07:) but I haven't ridden any other plates except geckos:)

Similar or exactly the AllFlex pattern.  "Spring hinges" in middle.

Skip boilerplates all together.  I've ridden 5 and 4, and Apex v2 (which I loved).  Apex all day, not even close.  More feel, lighter, assymetric is an option for mounting, and similar dampening.

JJA will customize a plate for customers, FYI.  Best mounting hardware as well for traditional hinges plates that I've seen as well.

    My 2 cents.

    Cost? Link?

Also Confused - you rode they jja plate and loved it? Or just heard about it and love the apex plate?:)

Good advice! Lately I've been using a 55/55. Is there a difference if you pit the front at a higher angle?

I just feel a more natural relaxed forward facing stance at 60 in front. And 55 in back adds a little more stability. I tried 45/45 first and felt Like a pretzel. Then 60/60 felt not as stable as 60/55. Also played around with stance length and found 19" to be optimal (Which is also measurement from floor to middle of my kneecap 🤷‍♂️ Ymmv

I've got a Donek Nomad that works well for that. 21.5cm wide.

OES AM 23cm wide @BlueB special. I'm probably going to get one of these once they've finalised prototyping it.

Virus has a 166 23.5cm wide revolution hardboot freeride board which I imagine would be decent for this, but every virus owner seems to be a dick, so whatever.

Oxess will have something in the mix for this also this year. Gotta wait for that one.

I reckon a coiler bxfr 23cm-23.5cm wide would work well for this also.

"Every virus owner is a dick"

I beg to differ.  While I have one I am not one 😅

I would throw in Jasey's new plate design (center hinges).  I have two, and they are amazingly adjustable... Would take me many, many seasons to go through all the options.  Similar to AllFlex, which Jasey says is better on flats whereas his is superior on medium to steep slop.  From my own experience, I would agree.

    Significantly cheaper too.  No 4x4.

    Only upm though? Cost?

Why not make a board that doesn't need one...?

Phantom Zylon gets close to it. But still no comparison to a plate.

I'm late to the plate party and have only been dabbling for the last couple of years, but it has certainly opened my eyes to the "diverse" conditions we experience here in the northeast. I got pretty excited when I saw the release of the Carve and Carve Pro, but alas my current stable of boards is a bit "allflex challenged" and not an option that doesn't involve a significant refresh.  I get it.  It's a boutique industry. Seems most builders here are evolving to build an experience into the board itself, which is a good thing, but here conditions deteriorate by the minute of the first chair reaching the top.  I really wish Sean would make another run on the AF in 4x4 or Walker tweaking the BP2. But the reality is most of these were run in 2013ish and took 5+ years to sell off the inventory so it's not gonna happen. Even SG dropped their plate. Guess I'm just sour-graping and wish there were more options for 4x4.  Or perhaps I shell out $3,250 for Virus Phantom Zylon Electron... 😲

FYI. I love the Phantom Zylon - but had knee pain on it (riding on crappy icy mess in New England) that disappeared on next run as soon as I jumped on my k168 with a vist Snowplate 07 (that I got with 4x4 mounts). Highly recommend the Snowplate - and its thousands less then the Phantom (Which is Still an amazing board)

Edit: @i-carve.comhas vist Snowplates in Stock and was amazing to deal with - plus quick shipping.

I would go right to F2.  I love Bombers, but for light weight at your weight and and skillset F2's will be great. Either the Ti Race set or softer and less expensive Carve RS Intec will work great.

For lighter weight the carve rs intec are awesome. I got those and the titanflex and they are both great (but carve much less expensive)
