  1. thanks for the replies. It was fun racing with you Pat Moore, and thanks for the suggestions. I have acquired a Kessler 162 with f2 bindings and some upz boots. I also spent some time getting instruction, although I still don’t feel really comfortable, which hopefully comes with time and practice. As far as my question, I think jack answered it...sounds like usasa is where I need to go to race more often.
  2. Hi there, looking for some information about racing. I have been racing with a club for about 5 years, saw the Olympics and decided I needed to try the hard boots/alpine setup. So what is the next step? I know I am not ready for "world cup" but what is my next step? Went to Nastar Nationals this year which was loads of fun but looking to see something a little higher level. Thanks
  3. Mike something.... he manages the ski/snowboard school.
  4. Still have these for sale? My boots hurt
  5. So on a whim I signed up for snowboard race camp with mt hood summer ski camp. I had no idea what to expect and was just hoping for the best. Met up with the instructor and one other (boardercross rider) on Monday morning. We spent about 1.5 hours talking body mechanics and how they relate to all the aspects of riding. We got on snow and basically spent about 4-5 hours each day breaking down these concepts. It was fantastic and made all the concepts and drills come together. I wish I would have found this guy sooner instead of just trying to figure things out on my own. It would have saved me a ton of time and sore joints. I plan on hooking up with him about once a month to try and build on what we did at camp. Just posting this because it might help someone else in the future. The instructors name is Mike and you can reach him through Timberline ski school. He said he could do instruction pretty much any day. This guy is a great teacher and I feel like I found a real hidden gem.
  6. Been having a great week at MHSSC. As a new alpine rider I wasn’t sure what to expect with their snowboard racing program but for me it has been fantastic. Their alpine snowboard coach really knows his stuff. I have learned so much this week, never thought I would ever be able to carve turns switch, do butters or heel grabs on jumps but now feel comfortable doing these in the hardboots. I have had too much fun switching to downhill edge to initiate turns and build some serious speed. I would highly recommend checking this place out for anyone wanting to get some serious instruction, and skip the trial and error phase ( which is what I have been doing until now).
  7. Thanks again for the replies, this is helpful
  8. Awesome! Thanks for the info. Although I’m probably going to hang up the softies for the summer and just work on carves, I will be moving the splay closer. Also any recommendations for angles for hard boots on powder board?
  9. So I have done 4 days on hardboots now and starting to feel very comfortable. I went out last week and tried to ride hard boots on a Kessler 162 on a deep powder day. I soon figured out that this was not working very well and switched over to my soft boot and a never summer 157 West. Had a fantastic day but now the stance on the soft boot board (0 back 25 degrees front) feels awkward. My plan is to stick with hard boot board as much as possible but what would anyone recommend for stance angles on the softies when days like that occur?
  10. This is meadows last week for opening during weekdays.... was there yesterday, snowbwas epic! Took two turns in hard boots and went straight to the car for softies...
  11. Same question different day, I’m headed to t line, maybe meadows tomorrow early. Leaving about 2ish
  12. Thinking of going up tomorrow, snow looks good but might be windy. No preference on T Line or Meadows.
  13. Thanks again for offering to help a brother get set up.... I was able to find some starter boots from Keenan but now need board and bindings and open to suggestions.... I am 5’8”, 170 lbs, I think I am leaning toward trying to race eventually and looking for a board I can grow into.

email me osboards@comcast.net please. Glad you found some boots.

  14. That was fun! Thank you to everyone who loaned gear and/or rode with And gave me some advice. You guys are fantastic! Can not wait to do it again!
  15. So I am going to try and come to Bend the 3rd and 4th. Still not sure about the 3rd and I won't know until that morning. The earliest I will be down is noon on the 3rd. If I can't do that I want to come that night and be ready to go early on the 4th. Either way, if someone had a couch I could crash on (or a bed) I would love to chip in. However I have to leave after riding on the 4th. Hopefully I can repeat and be back on the 6-7 but again won't know until last minute. Looking forward to this for sure.
  16. So glad this forum finally became live. I was worried I would never figure out how to get set up. Thanks for the offer to help out, I am so new to this that I really don't know what I don't know. Sounds like  I should start with boots but again I have no idea where to start.

  17. Nate was such a nice guy. After he ran his pacesetting run, the guy hung out and watched all the racers ride. Then he chit chatted with everyone and talked body position and gear with anyone who wanted to talk. He was one of the last to leave the race area and took a big group picture with us all. Anyone have that pic?
  18. Thanks for the help, I could use it for sure. Getting into this hard boot riding has not been easy.
  19. Hi there, I live in Portland and would love to drive down for a couple of days. I am a total newbie on the hard boots, other than a two hour lesson a few weeks ago. That being said I have zero equipment other than my soft boot setup. Any chance there would be a way to rent/borrow some 26.5 boots, bindings and board?????
  20. So yes, he did use soft boots as pacesetter, but it was still pretty fast.
  21. Thanks for the input. Sounds like these are a good match for me.
  22. Newb needs to try on some boots and have a car. Is there any place that would have them up here? thanks
